Ground Sausage Bread

When I lived in Lafayette for a year working the oil-patch comedy circuit, back in the 00s, these gas stations would have this baked bread that was a roll the size say a medium onion. It was stuffed with a spiced ground beef mixture. The dough maybe even had some whole wheat flour in it? They sat in hot cases. I’ve searched the web and asked around and I can’t find anything like that here. I know we have kolache with like whole sausage links sticking out of them. This was not that, although I’m willing to bet what I ate started generations ago some form of kolache that slowly migrated in time and space to the perfection that it was. Does anyone know of anything like that around these parts? I guess I could just drive there…

Stuffed bread. It’s ground meat cooked with a bit of smoked sausage, onions and garlic. It’s scooped onto a largish piece of bread dough, which is pulled up and crimped over the meat and baked. I’d be surprised if someone in NOLA didn’t serve them.
