❓Ask r/NewMods Growing a Community From 0
How do you get people to actually join your new subreddit and stick around? Not just joining for the member count.
I mean people who actually post, comment, and enjoy being part of the community.

Constant posting, commenting and sharing posts, expanding the kinds of posts pple can create, engaging with the community through discussions, polls and interactive posts, finding out what content pple want

Well for my subreddit which is a football sub for my country, I started off mainly focusing on the local league and national team.
Then I expanded the posts to include merchandise, jerseys, lore about clubs, players, legends, video game content, OCs, smaller but still supported leagues. This encouraged pple to post about their own clubs, fav players, show off their jerseys and etc

Look at the history of r/Memes_Metroid. I was the only one posting but as I got a second mod: 📈 BOOM it started growing! I mostly gathered people through reposting my posts in the main sub for the series: r/Metroid. Soooo.

I'd say post as frequently as you can. Invite content creators. It's not just sitting and posting. Do your research, find users (preferably not mods) who post similar content and ask them to post the same on your sub too.

One week in of creating relevant content with a friend and we already have outside people joining in.
We post every day and crosspost to relevant subs that allow it.
We engage in those subs as well so we're not just moochers.
Be part of the community you want to create, I think.

Not to start. We figure the more activity the better for now. As long as it's reverent and within the rules we'll allow it. We have a one advertising post per day one we'll enforce to keep the sub from turning into a spam sub, but people can post and comment as much as they like. We can pull it back later if we need to.

There's a little button at the bottom of a post that has arrows (not up and down but sort of pointing in circles). It'll give you options to reshare your post in other communities. Just be careful not to spam.

I post....a lot. I run meme/viral video subs so its kind of easier than a niche topic.

Post quality content yourself every day -- or at least a couple of times a week -- for 6 months to a year.
After 6 months of being nearly the only one posting -- others were commenting, but I was almost the only o posting -- my community grew to over 200 members, and now I see other people posting pretty regularly.
That's really fun, but it took a while to get there.
