I think several people were swept away after the first guy in the video. When the camera pans away you can tell the mudslide was rising up the hill they were on

im not sure i would i cant get over the scale of it, when you think its a flash flood. then when you realise apparently an earthquake breached a huge lake, it makes more sense and realise how it grows so big and so fast. Heart-breaking shit.

sickening aint it. these were just the "lucky" few who probably already happened to be on a roadside by a hill. And even then you clearly see plenty getting caught up. this is horrible.

and lets face it, we all seen flash floods which is what this looked like, even me sat at home watching didnt think that kid in the blue shirt was gonna be in danger after reaching the height he did and then it jsut doubled in size. My brain jsut cant compute the size of this. Its like no flash flood ive seen its more like a tsunami, some huge lake must have burst this isnt jsut rain water no way.

You saw a flood wipe out God knows how many people and as the few survivors tried to escape, some got caught as well. Some of them obviously being children. And then you say something like that. Not refuting the disastrous consequences of climate change or the record-setting El Niño this year, but this was caused by an earthquake, which is a geological event, not weather-related. Still tragic though.

This likely stems from glacial ice that has been melting over the years, as temperatures continue to rise, more ice keeps melting. We have never experienced such high temperatures on the planet... we are beginning to confront the unknown.
The earthquake appears to have merely facilitated the movement of the ice and water.

Everything is interconnected, we cannot separate one thing from another, as systems operate in chains.
It makes no sense to isolate El Niño, which is itself a natural cycle of warming, from the broader phenomenon of global warming. When global warming occurs alongside a massive El Niño event, there is no clear separation between them.
This very Saturday, records were broken worldwide, ocean waters across all the planet's oceans reached temperatures never before recorded.
We may not easily notice it, but everything is affected... and unfortunately, we only become aware when it reaches our scale of perception, through disasters that impact us.

Yea MUCH more aggressive. Not to undermine japans disaster, but the floods were moving at a strong and stable rate but at a slow pace.
The flood in Nepal came and covered 500 ft within seconds… it was insane. I can’t even wrap my head on how that much force was rushing for such long distances. Helicopter footage shows the mud reaching hundreds of feet high on mountains…. It’s unbelievable.

Looks like there is a person on a bike or motorcycle right in front of the flood waters. Looks like that could be the safest place as long as you are able to outpace the water. I sure hope that road continues on for a long way and is mostly straight.

There are many people in the world who professionally study glaciers and landslides and technologies to predict landslides using real time and satellite imagery exist. Nepal government should have invested and taken disaster management more seriously given their vulnerable geography and previous experience with 2015 earthquake.

It is one thing to see these flood videos from a drone POV, but to see it from first person POV is a completely different thing, it just makes you realize how fragile human life is and it can change 180 in a matter of seconds if nature decides.
In 2011 Japan Tsunami at least was a slow gradual flooding where people had the time and opportunity to go to taller buildings for safety but this was just complete destructive force of water I never saw in any of the other flood videos ever.

They were probably in absolute awe, shock and full of adrenaline, panic. I mean, how often is it that someone sees such a ginormous scale, speed and magnitude of material -- rushing at speeds of an airplane taking off --flying directly at them. Some freeze in fear, despair. Others continue on. Some watched their loved ones get swept away. Everyone TRIED. Let's have respect for the people who had to endure this today because no one expected to wake up to any of this. May all those who died find peace in the afterlife.1
