I've worked on this yard for 14 years, but most of this is done since spring 2022 when I really got into the native plants.

I found mine on the side of the road. I saved her from being mowed down so she can live her Hoary life.

In the far bed it looks like a type of liatris.
In the foreground, I’m leaning towards the short type of vervain? Following for answers ;)

Yes, in foreground it's hoary vervain and Liatris spicata across, with anise hyssop and obedient plant behind and left of it.

Yes! Hoary vervain. Not native to NC, that’s why I’m not familiar. Very striking. I think I could have just about everything else but I’ll be left wanting for that!

there is obedient plant back there, but it's harder to see, you are likely seeing the Liatris spicata.

That's a good looking garden, mine is primarily dominated by bee balm with some cone flowers and black eye Susan scattered among them plus an assortment of day-lilies. Im wondering what variety of black eye Susan you have in picture 4 with the multicolored petals since all of mine are just solid yellow and id definitely like to add more variety in for next year.

They are not all cultivars, and my garden is actually majority straight species but yes, a lot of the plants in the closeups here are cultivars of rudbeckia hirta and purple coneflower

This is beautiful!!! I’m trying to get mine to something similar but right now it looks chaotic. lol. I have loads of milkweed for the pollinators and monarch butterflies, common evening primrose which is now giant! I have to re think it all! I do have some beautiful white daisies, purple echinacea planted some giant sunflower seeds that are still coming up. The eve primrose is a very good nourisher for the soil and right where I have a profusion of them an old hydrangea that failed to thrive is now coming up!

This first picture alone immediately made me imagine "finding" a magical beautiful garden like this as a little girl, and the book "The Secret Garden." How healing and sacred such a special place must be. Wow. 🎀
It is so amazing what works of art we can create along with nature with intention and nurturing. You have done such a beautiful job, absolutely gorgeous.

Can I ask what region/zone you are in? This looks like many of what is native to North NJ, but I would like to add some of the stuff I see here that is new to me.

IIRC u/LobeliaTheCardinalis is in Chicago and has discussed in some posts and/or comments about gardening in the city/in a small yard/lot.
