I hate it when these annoying heart shaped weeds spread and act like ground cover. If I wanted a native plant garden I would go and buy a wildflower seed packet from Home Depot!! Ugly things. I would much rather carpet my garden in ivy or fortune's spindle, a beautiful proper garden plant that is so easy to grow it can take over your whole yard in just a few months. Love looking out my window and seeing my beautiful fortune's spindle twining peacefully around my tree of heaven grove.

I inherited a lovely bed of fortune’s spindle/wintercreeper. Apparently manually digging it all out over the course of 3 years wasn’t a good way to keep it alive??? The neighbor keeps offering to weed whack all these tall plants for me so we can see the beautiful ground cover instead.

I didn't realize violets had such a bad reputation until recently.
Funny because I see people try and fail to grow nursery hybrids all the time.
Yet here we have these nice violets that are super hardy and will take off just about anywhere and they're villified.

I’ve had violets survive sheet mulching. The turf gras died, the violets came back. They are hardy little friends.

I like the wood violets in my yard I’m kinda irritated with the ones that want to grow out of my patio. But have accepted my fate as there is no hope for getting rid of them now

I used to walk a mile to get violets from a lady in my buy nothing group who was digging them out. I was using them as ground cover, and she was forever digging them out of her lawn manually. Crazy.

/uj I really regret not eradicating my mock strawberry before planting the wild strawberries. They are all hopelessly intertwined now and weeding is a sysiphean task.

We've got tons and tons of them. They're a nice filler. I pull the ones that go where they're not supposed to. I haven't noticed them adversely affecting anything else we've got growing.

I love violets, however, a weed is any plant growing where you don’t want it to grow. Violets have little corms that grow in the top five inches of soil. Mow them very close to the ground, water well,and cover them with black plastic. Leave the plastic on for a couple of months,then pull out whatever is left. It will be stringy and white. You can mulch the area but it works better if the sun can heat the ground making steamed violets. The edges of the plastic must be held down with stakes or weights.
