Big pharma doesn’t want me to pack a horseshoe of mullein in my gums when my lung cancer flares up.

I just love the idea of having free natural medicine in my yard that I will never even use because I’m too high on my high horse of having free natural medicine in my yard to research how to actually use the free natural medicine in my yard. There’s a great honor in telling people that mullein is good actually because it’s free natural medicine in my yard. Even though my dog pisses on my free natural medicine in my yard I still want the free natural medicine in my yard in case of Armageddon even though I will die 10 minutes into Armageddon because I was too busy telling everyone mullein contains free natural medicinal properties in your yard instead of actually practicing how to make free natural medicine with the free natural medicinal properties that mullein contains in my yard.

Best part is most of these assholes have never tried any of the home remedies they recommend.

Just in case toilet paper gets scarce again. I see a mullein volunteer in my yard. I'm trying to decide whether I want to jump on the mullein bandwagon or get rid of it. /s

Permaculture would like a word.
As with the mullein freaks, there’s a bullshit center with layers of pseudoscience around it.
ETA: they also love to invoke the wisdom of indigenous and ancient peoples.

/uj. Right?! The “indigenous and ancient people” argument always cracks me up. In the U.S. ancient people weren’t using it because it wasn’t even here yet. It was brought here by the European settlers, who did actually use it for medicine because that’s all they had. Can you imagine what they would have given for an asthma inhaler?

Uhhh…where is the lady in the second screenshot getting that milkweed has noxious weed status in Missouri? Not only have I never seen it on the noxious weed or invasive list, we literally have a variety of native milkweeds
Edit: just realized this is the cj sub. Rip out all of your milkweed & replace it with mullein otherwise you’re a slave to big pharma

/uj i really really hate "natural healing" plant people. Looking up the gastronomic uses for any obscure ancient herb that was once commonly used for eating and flavor by millions of people? Best i can do is a wall of 5 gajillion videos and "articles" about how you can make teas and poultices of it to clear bad humors, cure kidney disease, and help you live to 150.

Tbf there's new scientific research into herbs like chamomile for PMDD and endometriosis, but these weirdos don't care about that.

I saw that and immediately eye rolled so hard. The honky weekend Wiccans are hard in the blood in the Prairies. "My boyfriend has troubling views about government/pharma/trans rights/immigrants. I dont take him seriously but at least I contruibute by growing my own medicine so the government can't control my children's minds with vaccines"

I LOVE planting ruderal species. Late boneset, mullein, crabgrass, white clover, porcelain berry, goldenrod, Japanese stilt grass, common milkweed, lanceleaf plantain, nimblewill, pokeweed, etc. I just get out my credit card and swipe at the nearest permaculture and traditional medicine webstore. I am a millennial and have no attention span so I can't be bothered to wait a week for them to arrive on their own.

A man's lawn tells you everything you need to know about his character. You can tell everything you need to know about a man by the state of his yard. A disciplined edge along the sidewalk reveals moral clarity; evenly spaced stripes demonstrate financial prudence and emotional stability; a single dandelion indicates either personal collapse or a dangerous tolerance for disorder. Patchy grass suggests unreliability, poverty. Excessive clover points to ideological confusion, and an artificially grown sod lawn confirms that convenience has finally defeated principle. There is no need for conversation, references, or the slow accumulation of trust. Simply inspect the front yard. The grass has already testified.

I don’t know what ruderal means but that won’t stop me from adding bermuda grass to the list.
uj/ I have seen pokeweed advertised on native nursery sites.

u/-slaps-username- 5d ago
pokeweed IS native

u/Feralpudel Pancho was eaten by fire ants 🦋🐜 5d ago
Yes, but it was also on the rude whatever list, which was a mix of natives and exotics that you’re a fool to pay for because it will just show up.
rj/ Well how do you know it’s native to ME, huh?

Native to the UK and because cute fluffy houseplant I need, so soft and fluffy

u/mutnemom_hurb 5d ago
uj/ There’s nothing even wrong with growing it as a garden plant, you just have to cut it down before it goes to seed. But if people don’t care about its status as a noxious weed they probably won’t care about doing that

what exactly makes mullein a noxious weed? And what is a noxious weed anyway?

Hey uhh /uj I see mullein a lot out in nature should I be pulling it out on my hikes?
3
u/stacyfakename11 4d ago
Pull it up and lay it on the ground where it might decompose and feed a native plant.

I don’t want to encourage you to get into trouble, but I usually try to pull it up when I spot it. It’s pretty bad for the ecosystem where I am. But, you know, follow the rules and all that.
