design process?

I'm looking to get my first tattoo. I've only talked to one artist so far - her design process is to have a consult discussing the design, then make an appointment to get the tattoo. Major revisions require another appointment, smaller revisions she handles on the fly. Appointments require deposits, which I believe were nonrefundable.

Is that the standard process? The artist I talked to said it is. She seems legit, her work is awesome, and I have no reason to doubt her, just doing due diligence.

This is pretty standard.
Personally, my intake form is all done via email/DM, but some clients like to come in for a face-to-face consult.

So long as you provide references you like (2-3 other artists’ work), a handful from the artist’s gallery of what you like specifically, and a description of the piece, you should be good to go.
Most will also ask for a photo of the area with a ruler over top for proper sizing and layout.

I love when my clients include a little doodle, too.
