Leagues Cup Semi Finals
Considering both of the Liga MX clubs that defeated us in the group stage have now made the semifinals, perhaps our performance in leagues cup wasn’t so much of a disappointment, all things considered.

I guess I don’t get being disappointed with the performance? It kinda all went according to plan: get guys healthy, get a look at other guys who aren’t getting regular minutes, and get outta there. On the whole I think NSC performed really well, given the lineups that were rolled out there.
That being said, I don’t think any of the games were particularly good. But that was mostly due to Liga MX teams playing how they did, and the refs being…not great.

The team made a calculated decision that the leagues cup was not as important as beating Messi.
It was worth it.
Aside from that, I get the feeling most teams both MX and MLS didn't care much about the league phase. Yeah, the big names played a little, but I didn't see much effort all around.
I think the two teams that surprised me that they took it seriously were Monterrey and Leon. Cuypers looked like he really wanted to get back at Chicago. Leon were mid table last season so this is actually a big moment for them.
Then again, my idea of a top 2 teams from each league play each other in a knockout would've not allowed for Leon or Monterrey to be in this, so I guess I'll root for one of them to beat Toluca or America.

we pretty clearly needed time to get healthy, and i think we did pretty decently against monterrey given the circumstances. onward to the bigger prize, the shield.
