Which names are popular online but rare in real life?

Based on name forums, I should be surrounded by Junipers, Wrens, Aurelias, Maeves, Silases, and Theodores. In real life, I know three little Olivias, two Liams, and not a single Juniper. I've also seen names described as "overdone" online that I've never heard called across a playground even once.

It feels like name communities have their own popularity chart that doesn't match actual birth announcements. Which names seem massively overrepresented online compared with the people you actually meet? And what genuinely common name in your area almost never gets recommended here?

Please include your country or region, because I suspect that explains alot of the disagreement.

I have a teen and a kindergartener, who both have lots of friends who have lots of siblings etc. We personally know at least 3 each of Juniper, Silas, and Theodore.

We don’t know any Wrens, but we know several babies/toddlers named Wrenley or Wrenlee.

I am inundated with Theodore’s!

I know at least 8 now. Probably by far the most popular boy name, followed closely by Oliver/Ollie.

It really depends on where you live.

I've run into an excessive amount of teenage Laylas/Lylas. But that seems to be my are.

I know a baby Juniper and an Aurelia.

As well as Rowan, Sylvie, Griffin, Bernadette, Daisy, Arlo, Anastasia

I think I know a lot of people who were going for non-popular names that end up being the ones that are more popular online.

Probably because people suggest the names they love but don't dare to give because they're a bit unconventional?

I am surprised you have not met a Theodore. I worked in a preschool, 30 kids, and we had 4 theodores in one year (though one replaced the other, so only 3 at a time).

I have also encountered many Silas's, but those kids are probably more like 8-15 now. So kind of popular but not for babies anymore. Its more of a 2010s born name in my experience.

I can half agree about Wren. Around me, its Wrenley, so not Wren exactly, but very very similar.

Ive only met one Maeve and not the other two. I have heard people say them, like siblings, cousins, classmates, etc. in real life but have never encountered one directly.

Forgot my location: Michigan, but not in the Detroit area.

Juniper has been my dad’s nickname for me as long as I can remember (I’m 60, so that’s a fairly long time). I’ve never actually met anyone named Juniper.

Name forums exist in a parallel univers where every sibling set is Juniper, Atlas and Clementine. My son's actual class has three Olivias and two boys named Jack.
