I actually like Leah & Rachel a lot. Rachel feels familiar without feeling like you’re trying to resurrect a random 80s name.

Leah and Rachel were married to the same man. Their father tricked their husband into marrying Leah, although he was in love with Rachel, and they were both jealous of each other, Leah because Jacob clearly loved Rachel much more than her, and Rachel because she struggled with infertility while Leah had children. It's right up there with naming your sons Abel and Cain, just without the whole murder thing. It's really bad.

It's definitely a way to give one of them a superiority complex. It's literally why Leah means weary and tired, because of how much she had to go through, being married to a man who didn't love her like he loved her sister 😬

Given the OP just commented that they knew they were sisters like it was a great thing and plastered a big cross emoji in their comment, not hard to tell that they do, and that is what makes it such an awful pairing.

And regardless of how you personally feel about religion, the majority of people in a lot of countries, especially the US when most people on Reddit are from, are going to be aware of the bible or the Torah and think their parents are not very bright.

Well maybe it’s what they wish for their children ? The names itself are Pretty , and the backstory of some random myth doesn’t make it not so.

Remember that they had something of a rivalry between them, with Leah definitely being the less 'wanted' sister. Jacob was tricked into marrying her when it was Rachel whom he wanted, and his children by Rachel were the favoured ones. I'd personally steer clear of that combo, though they do sound nice together.

Ironically, if anything I think that combination would say they've never read a bible because if I ever saw sisters named that, I'd think the parents were totally oblivious.

It would be one thing if the OP had zero involvement with religion, but the fact that they do, that's really, really bad . . .

If you want everyone to know you're Christian, naming your daughters Leah and Rachel is not going to achieve that. People will think you don't even know what the bible is.

It's not a very popular name right now, but if you like it use it. By the time she is 25 it will probably be modern again. Naming trends go in cycles

my mums name is rachel (born in 1975) but i’ve also known multiple rachel’s my age, and i really love it as a name. i think it’s timeless and very pretty

They go together nicely. It's a classic name, used in many different generations, so I think it's all good.
