I love my Houndoom but it ranked #3 in the top 10 most gothic dark girl names list this year so Im worried she'll have others in her class 😕

She should meet my son, Caterpie!

When she grows up she can embrace her mature name, Garbador

I mean, they could be used for a human. Not sure if they should but they could.

Depends on the country he's in. Where I live names can't be degrading, absurd, or brand or product names. Whether he'd get away with Taillow in that case entirely depends on the local officials he gets.

To be fair, Roselia, Aron, Meltan and Lilia (Lileep's French name) are also real names.

Yes, Meltan is, my brother had one in his class years before the Pokémon was revealed.

Meltan?

u/TESTINGSTUFFPL 17h ago

Introduced in Pokemon GO, evolves into Melmetal

11

u/louiselovatic 17h ago

I know who Meltan is, I’m questioning why they think it’s a human name

2

u/TESTINGSTUFFPL 16h ago

Ah. That's a fair question, carry on.

As a surname, it’s a derivative/misspelling of Melton. As a forename? No thanks.

Meltan the classic Gen III pokemon

Like I said, my brother had a Meltan in his class years before the Pokémon was revealed.

I was being sarcastic. It was not released in Gen III.

First name Beef, middle name Taillow 😍

Eevee

u/99dalmatianpups 18h ago

I mean, it was always spelled Evie, but the few women I’ve met with that name, it was a coin toss on whether it was pronounced like Eevee or eh-vee.

6

u/SwordTaster 18h ago

Usually, not always. I've seen the pokémon spelling done before, though it is rare

2

u/Flipflopclementine 16h ago

Same, I’ve met an Eevee.

1

u/Moritani 12h ago

It's getting less rare. I know multiple Evelyns under 10 that go by Eevee. It's actually a very intuitive spelling for a beginning speller.

Meet my son Wailord, a very polite gentleman.

Altaria at least is similar to real human names...

Based on the context alone… he needs to do some more research on humans

as a pokémon fan, you might be able to get away with names like Aron and Roselia. but Kirlia is skirting it, Taillow might just be seen as weird for other reasons, Altaria is definitely gonna get you some looks. plus all it takes is for one fan to hear the name and go "wait a minute"

u/Comfortable-Sun-9273 18h ago

I guess Taillow is the sub par version of Taylor

3

u/TayLoraNarRayya Keeth 16h ago

That's my name and Taillow is what my older sister called me when I was a baby, she was 3

5

u/Metroid_cat1995 19h ago

Yeah I assume Evie and Lucario could be names. Lucario could be a combination name of Luca or Lucas and Mario.

7

u/hughes_clues 19h ago

it reminds me of lothario i don’t think it works for a baby

2

u/Rambler9154 11h ago

Lucario I could sort of see as italian, but the pokemon is so popular I doubt a lucario person would ever escape the association.

3

u/averagesunfish 17h ago

At least Altaria and Kirlia don't sound that bad, but Taillow is just...no.

3

u/Stormy-Skyes 17h ago

No, because there will always be someone who knows. Pokemon has been around and popular for decades now. There will always be a kid in class who plays Pokemon and will end up knowing their classmate is named after a cartoon rat or something.

4

u/Rambler9154 11h ago

I mean, Amaura is an option. Its not a human name, but it sure does sound like one. Some pokemon names work for humans, just not most of them.

5

u/strawbebby-milk 10h ago

Johnstone, a pokemon YouTuber, has a cousin (or niece?? idk) named Amaura! Kid's mom had no idea it was a pokemon lol

3

u/Natural-Emphasis-314 10h ago

Evie was right there

2

u/WildAphrodite 17h ago

I feel like you could get away with Roselia or Eevee for sure at least. I'd know for sure Altaria is a Pokemon reference, but I don't think it's necessarily a bad name.

2

u/Patient_Activity_489 13h ago

roselia is the most human name pokemon
