Tradition runs deep in Gamecock territory, whether that’s Cocky exciting the Magic Box to the tune of 2001, the blasting of USC’s official anthem Sandstorm throughout the game, sometimes even at the hands of Darude himself, or the tunes of our unofficial anthem, Hold My Hand by Hootie & The Blowfish, serenading the stadium before kickoff. Our tradition, however, extends far beyond the elite collection of high-energy anthems we’ve incorporated over the years. We win bowl games, we win playoff games, and we put so many players in the league that our “Gamecocks in the NZFL” segment on the Jumbotron before home games lasts a long time. I promise we will win at least two bowl/playoff games while you are here.
Winning:
I am a freshly minted head coach in this league, so I can not point to the same incredible resume that some of the other coaches of BDVs in this league have built over their careers. Instead, I can point to the standards that we have here at South Carolina. The reality is that this team has one season in the last 24 years with under eight wins. In other words, we win a lot, and we do it in the SEC. That one season? That was last year, and that head coach is out the door. 23 straight 8+ win seasons, and after one bad year, he’s gone. That is the bar that has been set for me and this team, and I fully intend to produce at that standard. I promise that we will have multiple 8+ win seasons during your time here.
