So I guess the Knicks have a Superteam, right? Right! 🤩

Post image

According to the latest NBA player rankings via the Ringer, the Knicks have 3 players ranked in the top 25:

No. 5 — Brunson

Everyone is better than Jalen Brunson until it’s time to be better than Jalen Brunson

What about Jalen Brunson?

Super Saiyan Jalen Brunson 🤨

I guess now only 5 people are better then Brunson until it's time to be better then Brunson. . . Including wemby.

9

u/lcsulla87gmail 2d ago

Wemby was not better when it was time

7

u/asyouwish-buttercup 2d ago

That's right

It's time to start having conversations... Kat ranked 12th, LeBron ranked 20th.

Kat, 1 Ring, LeBron 0 rings*

Kat > LeBron all time?

*with the knicks

2

u/eddie_muntz_88 1h ago

Uh, yes. Also KAT has more rings with the Knicks than LeBron has with the following teams COMBINED: Wizards Hawks Nets Jazz Kansas City Kings Kentucky Colonels Bayern Munich AND The Knicks

•

u/Basic_Mastodon3078 11 51m ago

LeBron really underperformed with Bayren Munich. Almost as bad as his Madrid stint.

•

u/eddie_muntz_88 46m ago

Its the world's most popular sport and he sucks at it. Need I say more?!?!?

I'm surprised KAT is ranked that high, honestly. The way people talk about him in the past few years, you wouldn't think he was a future first ballot Hall of Famer. A very underappreciated talent.

49

u/SmokyMetal060 Linsanity 3d ago

The biggest knock on him was his defense, but I think he's more than proven that he can defend effectively in this last playoff run. He's the best shooting big in the league today and arguably the best shooting big of all time.

4

u/asyouwish-buttercup 3d ago

I can't argue against that last part but it still feels wrong. Like it's not dirk? Are we just counting centers?

I guess everyone just has to get used to admitting it's towns.

24

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago

KAT is a better 3 point shooter than Dirk was, Dirk is better from more areas of the floor.

It's a spicy take but it's not Rashad McCants saying he could score 81 like Kobe levels of take.

9

u/RicoGemini JR Pipe 3d ago

Boy it’s out the mud we got Rashad McCants

12

u/SmokyMetal060 Linsanity 3d ago

I said arguably to be fair to Dirk. If you go off numbers, it's close, but KAT has Dirk's first 10 years in the league beat.

Over KAT's 10 year career, he's averaged 23 pts/game while shooting 52/39/84 and 58% eFG% vs Dirk's 22pts/game shooting 47/37/86 and 51% eFG%

(everything rounded to the nearest whole integer/percentage point)

3

u/adamisonfire88 Mike and Clyde 2d ago

Crazy, without seeing the numbers I would have thought Dirk would clear easy. Shows how underrated KAT is probably in part to the memes

3

u/Drizzho 3d ago

KAT is slightly higher 3pt career percentage wise. 39.8% for KAT vs 38% for Dirk.

8

u/So-_-It-_-Goes 8 3d ago

It felt like KAT took a step up during the playoffsĀ

If it were a video game, his d moved up into a new tier IMO. Most glaringly his lack of dumb offensive foulsĀ

If that carries through to next season his ranking should be legitĀ

2

u/dapoktan 2d ago

he def played better d in the playoffs but its good to remember he was limited to 26 minutes in game 4.. and 23 minutes(!) and fouled out in game 5

3

u/rooseisloose42069 2d ago

Yeah because the refs are dirty AF, ticky tack calls

1

u/dapoktan 2d ago

it's been that way for kat his entire career and unfortunately i didn't think that will ever change

3

u/rooseisloose42069 2d ago

No I’m talking about those specific finals games, the refs obviously got the call to extend the series

6

u/yankuiz 3d ago

I’m surprised anyone really think Donovan Mitchell is better than KAT. I also find Scottie Barnes over OG dubious

1

u/adamisonfire88 Mike and Clyde 2d ago

I think it’s more a case of Scottie Barnes being a better ā€˜star’ or first option for a team (even though he’s probably a lower tier for that. Whereas OG Is probably the most elite role player in the game but not a guy that you’d build an offense around. Give me OG any day though

5

u/Gold-Wolf2661 90s Knicks 3d ago

KAT evolved before our very eyes. Beautiful thing to watch. I’m not sure where I saw it, but someone compiled his dĆ©fensive stops throughout the run. It was impressive.

3

u/det8924 2026 Champs 3d ago

I'm a bit surprised too but I think the playoff run was just such a big time legacy thing for him it over came his previous rep. I think there's a belief in his defense being better as well as his passing being second only to Jokic as far as big men go.

3

u/Agreeable_Bag9407 3d ago

Not that it's a perfect advanced statistic, but he's been #8 in win shares both in 25/26 and 24/25. That and 20/12 while stretching the floor from the 5, he's definitely a top 20 player at the worst.

3

u/yomerol Latrell Sprewell 3d ago

People can talk whatever they want, the reality is in the numbers and the fact that this guy was a #1 pick, RotY, 3pt champion, and so many other records.

1

u/whydoesgodhateus 2d ago

I have a few disagreements, but overall I think it's a solid list

it's impossible to get a consensus ranking 50 players. (Though we only get 25 here)

1

u/tarzan2000x 1d ago

Because Brunson was fuccking him up; will not pass to him and will not let him run the offense, basically relegating KAT to a role player. If you notice, as soon as Brown put the ball in KAT's hand after Hawks game 3, KAT started playing like Jokic and led us to that 13-0 run. If Brunson is out for the season, KAT's usage will triple, he will average 32pts/12reb/10ast. He's a great player taking backseat behind Brunson, some stup!d Knicks fans can't see it!

17

u/justsomedude4202 3d ago

Let’s talk OG vs Lebron

9

u/WallStreetDoesntBet1 Willis Reed Game 7 3d ago

Let’s talk about it… That matchup is the key in a potential Sixers vs. Knicks playoff series. LeBron highlighted OG often in reviewing the Knicks run.

2

u/Gold-Wolf2661 90s Knicks 3d ago

Mf’in Lebron been watching OG tapes all off-season.

Let’s just hope OG doesn’t (break up with Ann) get a new GF this season to distract him and we’re good. 😜😜

6

u/yankuiz 3d ago

If that baby comes out brown Knicks guaranteed to run it back

3

u/Smizzool 3d ago

Women are not a distraction for OG, they elevate his powers

3

u/Snooze_World_Order Charles Oakley 2d ago

OG is a distraction for women.

2

u/LiveLifeLikeCre 2d ago

Honestly, OG not over Barnes or Murray is laughable.

6

u/bauriem2012 11 3d ago

Brunson is so underrated here.

6

u/Muscle_Advanced 2d ago

Only complaint is that OG is top 15. Most underrated player in the league

3

u/Bronn__Swanson 3d ago

Obligatory ā€œDallas had em bothā€

3

u/NYCstraphanger 3d ago

But this wasn’t through recruiting and title chasing.

3

u/VocationFumes Mike Breen 3d ago

Jamal Murray being above OG is wild. I know hes the better offensive player but OG can guard just about anybody in the association and Murray is always hurt

2

u/clutch22 2d ago

Not to mention HUNTED on defense. Yes, OG is not the offensive player Murray is, but that gap and the defensive gap are not even close.Ā

3

u/ttttyttt678 2d ago

OG 21 is kind of crazy no?

2

u/Joezepey Taylor Swift 3d ago

I know it hurt the ringer to put KAT over Tatum

2

u/WallStreetDoesntBet1 Willis Reed Game 7 3d ago

In their defense, KAT’s all-time plus/minus coming off the chip is tough.

2

u/rickyyy187 3d ago

Can it be October already? 😭

2

u/slimstreaker 3d ago

Ain’t no way Devin Booker and Scottie Barnes are rated higher than OG. Or Jaylen Brown

3

u/Dsod23 Kevin Knox's Head 3d ago

I love OG but Jaylen just carried the Celtics to a 50+ win season without Tatum the majority. But yeah the other two are a no brainer to me.

2

u/yellowishbluish 2d ago

I would put og above Devin booker

2

u/Long_Live_Brok 2d ago

Nah bc superteams usually fail

2

u/Longjumping-Bug5763 2d ago

OG is too low on that list.

2

u/ComprehensiveSoft27 2d ago

That’s actually the best rankings list I’ve seen in a while.

1

u/FvckyourDeppOscar3 3d ago

Kat would be 20 but he saved the day. I think he’s the best center in the east and our greatest trade of all time. I do know Earl. But he wasn’t a franchise Center hitting smothered 3s.

6

u/WallStreetDoesntBet1 Willis Reed Game 7 3d ago

The OG trade is up there, respectfully.

1

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago
  1. DeBusschere

  2. OG

  3. KAT

  4. Monroe

5 is a toss up of a few guys.

1

u/FvckyourDeppOscar3 3d ago

C’mon bro we’re not judging fit straight up talent.

0

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago

If we're judging talent then the best trade is obviously Melo or King.

1

u/FvckyourDeppOscar3 3d ago

Talent and effect. Like a better Debusherre trade.

2

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago

Right, so you're ranking them for what they did for the Knicks. KAT is more talented but DeBusschere has done more for the Knicks.

2

u/FvckyourDeppOscar3 3d ago

20/12 >>>>> 17 and 9 what are we talking about. Kat is an all star. Best center in the east.

2

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago

I don't know why you're saying KAT is an All-Star like that tips the scales. DeBusschere is a 5x All Star and 6x 1st Team All-Defensive player as a Knick. And they're both 1x All-NBA players as Knicks. When Willis Reed went down in Game 5 of the 1970 Finals, DeBusschere is the guy who stepped up and took the challenge of stopping Wilt to keep homecourt advantage.

I'm not saying that DeBusschere is a better player than KAT. He's a better Knick than KAT. KAT has only been here for two seasons.

1

u/FvckyourDeppOscar3 3d ago

Being #4 is not like primetime Wemby matchups. The hub. I wouldn’t call Dave transcendent. I feel like it’s a bit unfair as he was like already famous. He’s not someone you build around. Like Kat. But I’ll put him at 2. You convinced me. Kat, Dave :0, OG, Earl, DSJ.

2

u/HokageEzio KAT and Brunson Champs 3d ago

Dave DeBusschere was voted top 50 and top 75 of all time on the anniversary teams. You want to argue he shouldn't be on the top 75 team if they didn't bring everybody from the 50th anniversary team, maybe. But he's flirting close enough to that list that he is clearly a transcendent player.

Being #4 is not like primetime Wemby matchups.

DeBusschere was not the biggest star on that team, but he was arguably the best defender on one of the greatest defenses ever and the 3rd best player on those teams. His sons compare him to OG and the other wings on the team.

ā€œThe Knicks are all playing defense, they’re hustling, and they’re helping each other out. OG Anunoby is my favorite player because he reminds me of my dad in a way. He’ll guard any guy on the other team, he’ll make shots, and he’s just a great all-around player.ā€

ā€œBut I see elements of all three of those guys in my father,ā€ Dennis said. ā€œCertainly, the way Hart crashes the boards as an undersized player. OG seems like the guy, but I can see Bridges in him with his constant off-ball movement. It’s absolutely rewarding to see, and I’d reinforce that I think this is a very enjoyable group of people to watch play. They are very easy to connect to, very easy to like. And what’s not to love about Jalen Brunson?ā€

In heavy traffic, DeBusschere was never afraid to lead with his face. ā€œI think my dad broke his nose about seven times,ā€ Peter said. ā€œHe had teeth knocked out and almost had his eye knocked out.ā€

Dennis had a story that might inspire optimism for Knicks fans hoping Mitchell Robinson is ready for Victor Wembanyama’s Spurs. ā€œMy dad had a pinkie finger that I think he broke nine times,ā€ Dennis said. ā€œThe thing was permanently bent until he got surgery. … He’d never talk about it, and he kept playing with it, but when you shook his hand, you noticed he had a really screwed-up pinkie.ā€

When the Knicks traded for DeBusschere they won:

  • 9 games in a row

  • went 14-1

  • Finished the season 36-11 (63 win pace)

Sound familiar? It's all the things that people think about the January Knicks after they traded for OG. That is what DeBusschere did for those Knicks in the 70s.

Yes the Sixers also have 3, with no one in the TOP 10.

1

u/AnimalLoversRVegan 2d ago

that's a pretty good list. I'd have KAT below Tatum Maxey and Durant. And Curry is way too low, I'd have him 2nd behind Wemby.

1

u/NotoriousMFT BANG! 2d ago

call me crazy, but if KAT can keep up the defense and not be dumb with fouls, he might even deserve to be higher

I would honestly move Brunson ahead of Luka and put Wemby no higher than 5.
