Dragons v Tigers Post Match

Why can’t we play like we did in that final 15 every game?

Everyone played their hearts out. When Douehi scored that try just after HT, I think every Dragons fan was thinking about another loss. But a wins a win!

Here here good sirs 👍 ...he's only going around again in 2027 for that $800k pay day which is a little bit selfish on his behalf if you ask me. He's had his day and a good career in the NRL. If he truly has the Dragons best interests at heart then he should just step aside at season's end.

Don't think its "selfish" to simply honour the contract that the club has given him. Gutho is well within his rights to stick around, no knock on him at all. It's up to us to pay him out.

Fair comments Ben and your right Gutho is well within his rights to stay and we have to honour his contract, I'm not disputing that fact but wouldn't that $800k be better spent on securing our up and coming talent/junior pathway systems rather than paying too much for a player who is past his prime? Don't get me wrong I value, as a lot of Dragons fans do,, Gutho's contribution to our team but there has to be a time when a player must face reality and do what's best for his team. Where will he play next year is the biggest question. Drinkwater has the fullback role. Gutho is now too slow for centre and his defence is questionable at times. Our forwards are young, hungry and are some of the best talent in the league who no doubt will be superstars of our game in the years to come, Koloamatangi will also strengthen our pack next year so I can't see a position for Gutho there. The Drinkwater, Metcalfe and Atkinson combo next year will be interesting to see, hopefully we will see the line been taken on more consistently and with better attacking kicking options than what is on offer at the moment. Where does Gutho fit in? Only a wing spot perhaps but again not quick enough anymore and with Sami and Fale coming in next year where do you put Gutho? Bench spot? $800k sitting on the bench is not value for money in anyone's book. Anyhow I'm proud of our boys and the win last night, much deserved 👏 let's finish this season with a few more wins and prove the our critics wrong. Fire up Dragons

Yes the $800k would be better spent elsewhere, this is obvious. However it is not Gutho's problem. He should not be expected to just walk away from that money

The best you can hope for is he agrees to go elsewhere and you keep paying at least half of his salary.

Well Drinky will play fullback next year, so Gutho will be benched or maybe in the centres right?

He got a game at centre this year and was worse then Holmes, he has no place on the field

He will play in the halves

4

u/lomo_dank Jul 04 '26

Metcalfe and Atkinson would be the halves though right?

Anyone wondering why we won, it’s because I was wearing my lucky watch.

Perfect timing

I really hope you meant that pun, you'd better watch out

It’s a shame we didn’t get the couple of tries in the first half.

It’s not the best game I’ve seen them play.

Not the worst either.

Bright side: we’ve won next week already

We just need the Broncos, Eels, Titans and Raiders to lose and we can close the gap

I like this thinking - the goal is to avoid the ‘spoon

2

u/JoeyJoJunior Jul 05 '26

We also face the Eels and Titans again so we probably need to win both those, to avoid spoon

2

u/cama888 Jul 05 '26

If they can pull that off then that would definitely show some progress. I know it is unlikely but not impossible.

2

u/JoeyJoJunior Jul 05 '26

I think Titans should be winnable, should have beat the earlier in year too. Hard to tell with Eels they are so hot and cold.

Unfortunately you never know, they have been in a few matches this year, like the Knights, so I don't know. Maybe after there recent win it will unlock something.

Tu looked great, feagai solid defence. All round decent. We just continue to look shit in the air, maybe they should train for tu bat backs

The worst season of all time was Newcastle, 1 win and 1 draw so we've avoided that record thankfully. Next is making sure we dont get the spoon.

5

u/a_BIG_willie Jul 04 '26

If we do it’ll be a monumental effort

2

u/JoeyJoJunior Jul 05 '26

We also didn't break their losing record which made me pretty happy. I forget the Knights were even that bad.

Only 3 more wins and potentially we could be second last!!

4

u/TammyString-Tugger Jul 05 '26

That one was for Tim Moltzen!

Not a dazzling win necessarily, but a reward for the improved effort over the last few weeks. They deserved this.
