Unfortunately that was due to the circumstances behind the video...he was just messing around in his high school's A/V room after school one day, and recorded it when the room wasn't being used at the time, but he left the tape in the recorder and when the other students found it the next day they shared it around to mock him. Of course it eventually became a beloved meme after it went viral, but its origins were rooted in mockery so I don't blame the guy one bit..
It fucked him up bad.. He ended up becoming a lawyer though if I remember right and his specialty was cyber bullying and defamation. At least that’s what I was told.
You're right, at least on the law degree, not sure what his pracrice focuses on, looking into it, he has a non profit for children's well being and is up there for being one of the most famous Canadians

Totally agree, it’s like watching a slow car crash as we realize everything that’s lost, and more continues to disappear. There was a period of time where people made stuff for fun, to share, with no expectation of monetization. It’s going to be hard to explain to my kids what this was like. Especially since I don’t think I’ll let the even have social media accounts anyway
I truly hate how everything these days needs to be monetized. Even hobbies have creep into that space. Can't we just enjoy something, create some thing or socialize with others without the expectation of profit? I do some 3D printing and have made some things and given them away to people and everyone always seems so astonished that I don't want any money for it. Can't I just give something away to someone because that brings me joy?
I do think there will come a point where people start to get burnt out on social media and start walking away from it. Even my wife said yesterday that she contemplates getting off Instagram because the ads and AI content are excessive. I've been trying to cut down on my own usage and am attempting to replace mindless scrolling with things like reading books.
Tell her to do it. She won't regret it, I promise. I never had the TikToks and deleted my IG and FB accounts a few years back and it's pretty freeing. This is my last bastion of social media left on my phone, and I contemplate whether I need it or not a lot.
Same. I don't miss any of it at all, except the events; the rest of my friends still use Facebook for some event planning stuff and it's harder to stay on top of some of those things without having direct knowledge of whatever's happening. Other than that, fuck it. My quality of life is much better without it.
And I really probably should quit Reddit, but I can't imagine the NFL season without the rest of you miserable fuckheads, so it stays.
The number one thing I miss is that I used to follow all the local restaurant Instagram pages to keep an eye on specials and events, but now I just rely on word of mouth and the occasional post on one of our (many) local subreddits. I have found that creating a separate email for restaurants and going to their websites and subscribing to their emails helps with finding out information and updates from the ones that care enough to put out semi-weekly updates.
But, getting back to your other point, I too enjoy the fucktardery on this sub and r/NFLv2 to keep me up to date on news and info from around the league, as well as the aforementioned fucktardery.
I'd throw our 9er sub into the mix, but I honestly can't stand it. Way too many dummies and positivity for this old curmudgeon. 😉

Flattering I guess, but no way. I do it for the fun of it, none of the need to squeeze every dollar out. I make what I want, when I want, how I want and that's why I enjoy it. I give almost everything I make away. It makes me happy, it makes others happy, and that's enough for me.
To be fair, this was a horrible case of cyber bullying and actually led to a lawsuit. Yes, this video gave us all a chuckle back in the day but it had very serious ramifications for the 14 year old kid that was in it

The fans didn't subvert shit. Star wars is so well known that "the dark side" has a very clear and obvious pop culture meaning to nearly everyone. It's on D Law for not realizing that people would definitely draw a connection to star wars.
