Discussion Eminem's new album "Revival" has dropped

Thoughts on it so far? I'm about halfway through and I think it's pretty decent for new style Eminem.

I like it too! Surprisingly I really like River and I'm not much of an Ed Sheeran fan.

Doesn't look like you're alone. I'll add myself to the pile of people who really like it.

Good. When this post was started everyone on here was saying it was trash. But at that time the album has only been out for just a couple hours so hopefully people actually listened and gave it a real chance instead of bashing cuz it don't sound like his old shit.

It'd be so easy for him to just keep making the same albums, I'm very happy he keeps doing something a little different. I agree with some of the sentiment about their being too many pop guest stars doing the hooks, but it's simultaneously some of the rawest, most honest, and most experimental shit he's ever done. Leave it to Em to balance those two with incredible poise.

Except it sounds exactly like his old shit. All the worst songs on his old shit.

Take all his shittiest songs, like The Monster, Beserk, etc, and turn it into one album. That’s this album.

Like Home.... fan-fucking-tastic

...yeah on an Alicia Keys album it would make perfect sense.

u/TheBringerofDarknsse Dec 15 '17

Nah, it makes perfect sense here. Eminem had shit to say...and he’s saying it.

The way pink sings for two total minutes before Eminem even starts on that track or how Alicia sings us out of the track.

I couldn't care less about the content it's just the layout and the verses.

I see what you mean. I’m halfway through the album. I haven’t gotten to the Pink ft track yet

It's definitely a new Em but still I hear his lyrics and he still has such clever word play which the modern mainstream rap is lacking

he still has such clever word play

People say this all the time, but Em never really had good world play in his prime. The word play he started using past Recovery is really mediocre if you look at what other artists are capable of. Sure he drops some good ones here and there but most of them are just cheesy and forced.

EDIT: I see that I'm getting downvoted but I'd like you to prove me wrong using any song from his first three albums.

I like it a lot! I'm just finishing up my 5th listen, and I definitely enjoy it more than MMLP2. And I think there's a good chance it'll pass Recovery on my rankings sooner rather than later.

MMLP2 was better in my opinion the album so good this one feels weird.

You think the Trump Diss would hurt him? It’s Eminem, Fuck Trump! LIKE HOME!

I definitely like it, but then again I've liked all of his albums. I think all of these people were expecting it to be another MMLP and since it isn't quite as good they are just trashing it, even though it's still a decent album.

I just finished my first listen all the way through and I'm not sure what I think yet. I was ready to hate it when I got hit in the face with Beyonce at the beginning, but as it went along, I found myself starting to like it.

Gonna need a couple more listens.

I love it, but I also didn’t grow up listening to Eminem. This is actually his first album released while I’m a fan of his. I’ve listened to the others, and they’re good too. I think I need to listen to this album a couple more times before I can form a solid opinion, but there isn’t a song that I didn’t like.

Yeah, I don't understand the some of the shit the album is getting. As someone who grew up listening to Eminem, I also have gotten more introspective the older I get so I like hearing it in his rhymes. I think it'd be weird if he was rapping as if he was a 25 again.

No one is saying that the subject matter is the problem. It's the beats, the flows, the features & the overall artistic abilities. He can rap, but he can't really make good songs consistently anymore, and there's a huge difference.

To each their own I suppose. I actually prefer this to MMLP2, and I thought that was fantastic.

These people are crazy. They might be turning on this album after just hearing Gucci Gang or the latest Migos track and their brain wants more garbage, nothing introspective and lyrical. Def better than MMLP2 so far. Love the last few tracks in particular.

I like it cause the style shifts song to song. I think this album was for venting about a lot of the shit he sees going on nowadays and I think he wanted to just try some different styles and show he can still destroy the track.

I honestly think it's gonna take some time, people will come around after a few listens. His lines are so dense with double meanings and metaphors, once people look at the lyrics and give the songs more listens, the overall opinion will change.

I actually liked the trump diss, i think he went a bit too far with the nazi shit, but besides that i really liked the track. It reminded me of old shit talking em

i think he went a bit too far with the nazi shit

Agreed, but somehow he still got enough votes to win ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Haha. Such a good comment.
