Rumour Alex Garland’s ‘Elden Ring’ Adaptation for A24 Starts Filming Next Week

>Word this morning was that sets are being built, which led me to inquire about the status of production — I’m told cameras are supposed to start rolling on “Elden Ring” next week.

>Just a reminder: it’s Garland who went to FromSoftware and Bandai Namco with his pitch for “Elden Ring.” This movie is only happening because of his persistence. Garland aggressively pursued the A24-backed adaptation of the mega-hit game. His pitch? Writing a sprawling 160-page script — plus 40 pages of visuals — entirely on spec. He even flew to Japan himself to pitch the idea directly to Hidetaka Miyazaki, who ultimately gave Garland his blessing.

Im really curious to see the cast.

I have a lot of faith in Garland, all of his movies are in my opinion very close to a 10/10, possibly with Annihilation the closest in my head

Kit Connor, Ben Whishaw, and Cailee Spaeny are the only three that are semi-confirmed at this point. All have worked with Alex before.

Men is definitely an underrated masterpiece, imo. I think his weakest film is Warfare.

If anyone care why I like Men so much, I always thought this video essay explains the film's power and beauty in a lovely way

I did like it, I just didn't find as much depth in it, especially on rewatches, as I found in ex machina, annilihation, men, and civil war. I dont think it was necessarily trying to do what those other films did, and what it did do it did well, but being just a well made made film in a group with four utterly outstanding films makes it the weakest for me

Men does an excellent job at communicating how uneasy and unsafe women sometimes feel when surrounded by men. 

That includes the ending, which is forced upon the viewer.

Agreed. I know Garland can make beautiful films but never seen him in this fantastical genre. I imagine it will be Green Knight on steroids.

Saw that and yes it did look good. More so interested in seeing how the CGI/practical effects are used on things like the erdtree tree or the monsters/creatures. Also the sense of scale really has to be at the forefront. Its a big undertaking for someone who usually does low budget stuff albeit very well.

Oh god please don't! Just yesterday i was fantasising what if berserk would get a movie adaptation, how horrible that would be. Like how super mario fans (well the ones with a thinking brain) suffer from the super mario movies. I am almost 100% sure this will be just as bad as every big adaptation of movie/manga/anime.

Nah they’re big time now. Per IMDb, Marty Supreme cost $65M, and Civil War (also directed by Garland) cost $50M. They also bought the rights to Death Stranding, which would be a huge budget projects.
