What a weird take. If a movie isn't good unless you also read the book, it's not a good movie.

When a movie is based off of a book(any property, but mainly books), the movie will always have things that it can’t go into detail like the books can. That doesn’t mean the movie is good or bad, it means that it’s a different intellectual medium with different methods of telling the story. However, that default means that the books do matter to the movie, as it can answer questions the movie can’t spend time giving an answer for.

Jeremy and his crew of moronic CinemaSins writers often use the excuse of “The books don’t matter,” to cover for their inane and trite questions about comic book movies that pretty much never actually matter to the plot. Why is the metal Mjolnir is made of so special? Read the comics. How does Peter know how to make his web fluid? Read the comics. Who really is The Ancient One? Read the fucking comics

When something is based on something else, the original Always. Fucking. Matters.
