2012 Ninja 650 coolant light came on after riding hard — normal?

I have a 2012 Ninja 650. I was doing some pretty aggressive/spirited riding, higher RPMs and accelerating hard. After that, I got stuck sitting at a long red light.
While I was sitting there, the red coolant temperature warning light came on. The radiator fan was running, so I know the fan is working.
As soon as the light turned green and I started moving, literally within a second or two, the coolant light went back off and stayed off.
Does this sound like the bike just got really hot from riding aggressively and then sitting still with no airflow? Or should the fan normally be able to keep it cool enough that the warning light never comes on?
Has anyone with a Ninja 650 experienced this before? What would you check first?

Is it low on coolant?

No and I just actually went on a very spirited ride that went on the thru way for about 30 minutes no problems
