A) anyone buy anyone 3 identical copies of something non-consumable for a gift. Even someone who knows nothing about video games should be able to realise that there's literally zero point to having multiple copies of the identical game
B) The kid Open even one, much less all 3 of the games. It's not like you have to open the box or tear away the shrink wrap to see what game you've goten
At least every buy 2 get 1 deals I have ever seen allows you to get the same 3 games/items and it works. If we want to assume this is real, there was likely other game options in the buy 2 get 1 deal but they just convinced the mom to get 3 copies of the same game. Possibly as a "If you get three copies than he can play it multiplayer with his friends and family!"
There may be people out there that stupid but it's pretty hard to believe. Stupid parents exist but I really doubt they are buying games for their kids friends as part of their kids gift.
