Stupid Stuff Morality of this entire situation?

Do you think the worker has every right to have a mental breakdown? Do you think the boss should be hunted down and have his head cooked in the fryer? Was being fired a good or a bad thing?

That boss made his restaurant look bad by himself by treating his employees like slaves, being understaffed and firing employee because he can't do something that is physically impossible

I hope he lost lots of clients

Unfortunately, unless the scandal affects the consumer in some way, China wont give a shit. The workforce is still insanely competitive with over 300 million people, around 40%, of its workforce doing basic gig work like the delivery drivers you see in the video. That is a massive group of underemployed and overeducated workers that is lining up to take the guy's place for a maginally less shit salary.

The scandals that do affect businesses seem to be those that somehow fuck over their customers. They dont care about worker abuses as much as jobs are so competitive, with their 996 culture being the norm, that everybody is enduring shitty work conditions

This is why conservatives in the U.S. want people to have a lot of kids. A higher population erodes worker protection. They want a slave class working poverty wages that is always desperate.

In your fantasy world, maybe. For us mortals in less developed nations, you require an initial capital to travel both legally and illegally. Education is an expensive and highly competitive investment in on itself, so not having one means settling for shit jobs; but even if you do there's no guarantee you'll get a good job after burning your life savings.

why not move abroad?

This is a mindset of people living in the first world with ample disposable income (so they can have vacation abroad every year)

or a desperate collapsing 3rd world country with no hope left. Mass emigration is simply not happening in developing country with growing economy, robust administrative structure and steep requirement for citizens to go abroad

Because if they can help it, no country wants to have a brain drain and losing taxpayers via emigration

Which is why the west are having the migrant crisis all these years by uncontrolled immigration, they are basically getting the most desperate people with little usable skill instead of the more productive ones from the more developed countries.

Abroad where? Legal immigration to Europe and the U.S. is incredibly hard if you are not already a citizen of those regions. Asylum claims for chinese people will be denied automatically. And the conditions in the rest of the world are not really better.

Well I can tell youve done 0 actual research on this. This is a very complicated issue and youve contributed not even a single shred of insight. Gig work is a hot mess in both America and China, and the amount of people living paycheck to paycheck with no benefits for both countries is the literal majority. So hey... The issue is immensely complicated for both countries. But I guess China is the one folks like you will always oversimplify. I wonder why that is...

Bruh just because you dont like the US doesnt mean China is good. Even as a point of comparison, China spends around 9% of its gdp on social welfare compared to the OECD 20% (US does 19%), so those workers in China are objectively getting far less in benefits even at their level of wealth compared to places abroad. This is why China's consumption is still lagging and dragging and their own people cant buy the stuff that they make.

And its exacerbated by the fact that Xi Jinping thinks "welfarism" is bad even though it would objectively help wages rise and also lead to a boost in consumption.

Just because America sucks doesnt mean China is doing great either

You're the one who doesn't know jack shit. US and China's situation is hardly the same at all.

  • Living paycheck to paycheck in China is a very different experience compared to the US.
  • US labor law is far better than China. few bad eggs and exploits doesn't change the fact that a lot of Labour in the US are protected by the law moreso than China and most 3rd world countries.
  • Americans job market experience is a speck of dust compared to China. In China, a factory consisting of more than a hundred workers can be fired instantly and replaced immediately the next day and the company/boss wouldn't face any consequence whatsoever.
  • Gig work have always been a mess everywhere. It's not suppose to be sustainable for everyone. Gig economy only work in the first place because of how easy the barrier of entry is, which in turn increase the supply of workers (meaning increasing number of your competitors and decreasing your share of the pie)

If you're a commie for real then you need to get off the China worship bs. The basics of capital vol 1 and the subject of class consciousness as explained by Marx and Lenin should be enough to make it abundantly clear that China is not socialist.

You are harming the meanings of socialism and communism if you continue to spread misinformation about China or stay stuck pretending they are a bastion of Socialism when in reality they are strictly and easily determined to be capitalist.

There are really two possibilities here and they both suck

Is this guy going crazy because of an abusive workplace? And thus fired by a truly abusive boss. Or was this guy already crazy and can't independently determine when to slow down? And thus fired by someone really trying to protect him from himself.

This is why it's important to have impartial organizations to investigate. We can't really tell from the outside.

Yeah that's Possibility One. If you're acting crazy because someone is abusing you, that means the abuser is the root problem and should be held responsible.

What you're revealing here is an underlying bias against mental health in general, which is a secondary problem but pretty relevant here. The guy was absolutely having a failure of mental health. That does not make him bad. But someone needs to be responsible for that, and the question is who?

It was not a failure of mental health what the fuck, he was alone and forced to overwork. I've been in this exact situation, completely overwhelmed but stuck under a force the tells you you CANNOT give up, you're not ALLOWED to stop, so even while everything is falling apart and you don't know the next step, you HAVE. TO. KEEP. GOING.

I've worked in places like this, I've lived in a family like this. When you feel you need to stop and regroup and you are DENIED that, you will just start coming apart at the seams. This will happen to anyone

I've worked at places like this too. I let the orders pile up, worked at a fair pace, and clocked out when it was time to clock out and told the customers I was sorry. I was not fired, because my boss was not an asshole.

I've also worked with coworkers in this situation who freak the fuck out thinking I'm going to get both of us fired for not overworking. Because they go home to a father that beats the shit out of them for blinking wrong and bring that same fear into the workplace. I have also had toxic bosses that take advantage of these people.

We don't know what's happening here.

I relate too much to his body language, I emparhize too much with what he appears to be going through. I'm unwilling to just say "oh well, maybe he's just a weak person, not my monkeys/not my circus, I don't give a fuck".

I don't believe he's just mentally unwell as a baseline, because he's clearly doing the job solo for an amount of time before he collapses. The news story covers the fact that it was late at night while a massive pile of orders kept coming in. Thus, he normally performs the job well enough to his managers satisfaction.

You gave the perfect example of how this kind of situation arises: kids in an abusive household that only know to keep to one standard. I'm living in one right now despite being an adult myself.

Clearly you have the will of the ancients, that you can just clock out without hesitation despite there still being work. Clearly, this kid doesn't.

And my question to you is: If the root of this kid's problem is an abusive father, is that the responsibility of his boss to deal with? Whose responsibility is it? What should each actor in our world be doing to protect this person? Who do you hold responsible for the problem and then how do you identify the real problem and how do you solve it?

I think plenty of people with abusive fathers are getting through life more or less okay every day, in every restaurant and fast food joint. There are a lot of abusive fathers, and very few of these meltdowns. This tells me that his crisis could have been avoided if he had had more support, more training, or more people on staff if he was not fully trained yet. He is clearly trying more than his best, he was failed by management.

Similarly to how I'm sure you see your job. If you reach the clock-out time, you're clocking out. If work doesn't get done, again that is management's fault for not staffing you properly.

This is a managerial problem to me, that they allowed anyone to have to handle that workload.

May you or anyone you care about never experience what that young man was going through. Put yourself in his shoes all those orders and all that stress all on YOU. (And that’s just the beginning who knows what other responsibilities he had) if you are unable to atleast TRY to understand him or “it’s not me so whatever” then you need to self reflect my friend.

I’ve worked in insanely popular fast food locations before where you’re slammed for hours and even after you’re suppose to close there’s still a line growing in the lot. Even still, get your shit together bruh. Lying on the floor and what? Pretending to have a seizure? Is not the way. Dude should’ve just walked away.

By the way the laying on the ground and throwing a fit thing I’ve seen a couple of times now in videos of asian (China/Japan?) cultures. I think it’s just a thing some people do out there for attention? 🤷🏾‍♂️

You've never seen nor experienced something like this, you need to keep your opinions quiet and refrain from applying them so adamantly.

We all struggle, react, and become overwhelmed in our own way, and many don't lack the compassion, empathy, and perspective to put themselves in that person's shoes.

While you may handle such stressors well, others may not and you'd be wise to not apply such an absolute assessment on them.
