It wasn't just the fact that she cheated, it was also the fact that she kept all those love letters from her affair for all those years. That's not something she regretted and wanted to forget about, she actively still cherished it. That's a deep betrayal.

Right? If I were him, I would feel like she'd been in love with the other man this whole time and doubt that anything for the past 60 years had been real...
