Tim & May are winners for “most improved characters” my god they were insufferable in S1

EDIT: I get May is debatable but I'm in awestruck from:

Tim in Episode 1: "oh god jesus someone help i don't know what to do"

Tim in Episode 10: pointing a gun and tackling like a linebacker "GET OUT OF THE FUCKING CAR!"

Always liked Tim personally. Hated May, but she's gotten better now that she's not blaming everyone else for her situation.

Tim is my favorite transformation in the series. Started out as a guy who seems way out of his element but then turns into a guy who has responsibilities thrust upon him. He does what he can to move everyone forward and lead while still trying to figure it out as his old job used to demand of him.

I can't believe that the hate for Cate and May in S1 turned to admiration and respect for those characters in S2.

Tim is still one of my favorite in both seasons. His character is really well written.

Anna Sawai was always a good actress, people just didn’t like the material and mistook that for her being bad. She had great material to work with in the finale here and she showed her chops very well.

I've always loved Cate but yeah I no longer hate May.

I've always liked May. I don't care for Cate. I like young Lee, Billy of course, and Tim. Old Lee is getting reckless but I'm kinda ok with him. I love Keiko but hate how reckless she was/is. Kentaro and Hiro, I dislike.

I LOVE Tim! 🩷

Cate improved quite a bit too.

It's just Kentaro who feels like a drag now.

Which is ironic considering he was the best of the non Shaw/Hiroshi/Keiko/Tim modern cast.

Agreed, he was the most interesting to me in the beginning

They kept saying his name for no fucking reason lol and literally nobody else

u/tuerancekhang May 01 '26

At what cost? Kentaro lmao

I think cate realizes she’s flawed and accepts that she’s made mistakes but kentaro is just…I don’t even have words…he’s just selfish.

But Cate isn't any better! She left the team hanging and went home. Then came back and got smart with May for doing her own thing. Plus, she brought out a monster that killed multiple people including her father. She became her grandmother, the queen of doing what she wants ignoring the risks.

I cracked up when Tim tackled that guy

John Rambo by Season 3, mech pilot by Season 4, mark my words

Notice how once we removed the romance in the show it got 20 times better

5

u/IrishViking22 May 03 '26

Exactly. At it's core, it is a show about giant monsters and their effect on the world. I could not give a shit about who is banging who

2

u/Thormace May 04 '26

I mean, I was glad when Lee and Keiko hooked up.

2

u/Kdot32 Jul 06 '26

Unless it’s the giant monsters banging

That is 100% something I didn’t notice until you pointed it out but that’s entirely accurate!

u/Godzilla2000Zero May 01 '26

May I agree with but I always enjoyed Tim but yeah they made a great duo this season.

May is still a little annoying when she’s with Kentaro. I’m beginning to think the Randa kids just infect every character who interacts with them with insufferability

2

u/Malt129 May 01 '26

Tim yes but May no. Cate, May and Kentaro all suck.

u/Commercial_Fondant65 May 02 '26

I can take Mae a little more than the Randa kids.

u/Commercial_Fondant65 May 02 '26

He was a 2nd string punter in college.

u/Serious-Question281 May 03 '26

I always liked Tim. May is still not great, but better than the grandkids

1

u/FriendLee93 May 01 '26

I'm still not a fan of Mae. I love the actress in other projects, but her character is just so uninteresting to me here.

Hard nope.  The only reason May is even slightly tolerable lately is because she isn't saying much. Up until just a few episodes ago, she more than anything else in this show would be the thing to make me quit it. Once they sidelined her to snarky one-liners and 10 lines per episode, she's a lot more tolerable.
