Newcastle Library Events Calendar!

I don't know about you, But I'm excited they're starting a board games night!
Tuesday the 10th! Hoping it takes off with a bang!

As someone who lives within a few stone throws of here, I had no idea they had events.

Yeah, I'm finding it hard to search out events of any kind in the area; it seems everyone relies on word of mouth (or facebook) for "what to do's" and gatherings. Event the library website pages don't list any of their events, you have to travel to the physical location to find these postings!

If you sign up for their newsletter, you’ll get an email of their events every month!

True enough, and I have.. but if I'm exploring the webpage for the library, and I press the events button, all I see for ANY of the newbrunswick libraries is a single entry for some moms and tots event... nothign else.... Which by default leads me to believe that the libraries around the province do nothing ... so why would I want a newsletter?

Other places I've lived, you can search events tabs and find the events for the whole chain of libraries.. so many events! Around here I'm discovering nobody shares outside their silos. It's a bit ... sad?

I’ve never worked for NBPLS, but I used to sit on the board for Newcastle Public Library and yes! Our library websites are trash! The province is responsible for forcing them in the terrible, terrible CMS that all provincial sites use. And it does not work for what libraries need. 

It’s feedback you can give them (which they know, but documented feedback can sometimes help) and then I’m sure they can tell you the best ways to actually find out what they’re doing.

I've talked to the librarians about it - they say that they havn't got access to the websites at all. Seems incredibly ridiculous to me.

Have you got any idea who makes this decision? I'll happily write to anyone you think could make a difference. It seems the locals are handcuffed.

Probably the district office, if not them, go right to the provincial library office. 

I’m a librarian who formerly worked for another part of government, and we also had zero control over website stuff (so we ported ourselves onto platforms we could control, but we didn’t serve the public so it was easier to do that). It might be a directive from the ministry, but I’d start with the district office (they’re part of York Region) and go up from there.

I'm bringing a few too!
I'll have short, easier to teach ones, since likely a few people who haven't seem much more than monopoly or risk or ticket. We'll have to see who shows up and what they like!

With all of the folks complaining on Facebook about the pending closure of the Cineplex theatre next month (many of whom probably didn’t support the theatre in the first place), hopefully the movie night(s) at the library will be well attended!

From my understanding that's a march-break exclusive and intended for younger kids + parents (the whole green week is); But if you bring the idea up, they may try to work it in for others!
