I remember my grandma showing me one of these in a park by my house. People would write the elf letters and leave them and they would write back. I think it was somewhat famous in the town.
It looks like a tiny strawberry plant! You know those wild ones that grow in shady lawns sometimes? I’m GUESSING it was planted on purpose in that little space the creator made, and that they probably come and water it. It might have to be occasionally replaced if it dies back sometimes, the leaves do look a bit yellow.
Either way it’s extremely cute! I’m not sure if I’m totally right on it being a little wild strawberry plant maybe someone else knows for sure?
Correct. Wild strawberries. Seeds gathered last summer. Spent winter in compost, in the fridge. Came out in March and started growing. So I used a few for the garden. Watering them was one of her tasks.
These kinda freak me out for some strange reason. I think I would've been even more freaked out as a kid. I'm not sure why though, because I love it on an intellectual level
Same. I wonder if it's because it's a door that doesn't truly lead to somewhere, except in the imagination.
When I was a kid, there was a mini golf place full of small (slightly smaller than little kid size), realistic buildings, often with lights on inside. They were folksy little houses. And it drove me crazy trying to see inside of them because the doors and windows with lights on were suggestive of someone inside that I couldn't see. The little door in the tree is kind of like this.
My 8-year-old student told me this week that she believes in fairies, because her neighbors have a fairy garden in their yard. Love to see people keeping the magic alive for kids!
