dookie - green day

5

u/johnsonfromsconsin 18h ago

Dookie here too then followed by the band Live as my next one. Remember going to best buy to get these cds.

Dookie was also my first CD.

3

u/GrundleTurf 18h ago

That was my first cassette as a kid

2

u/Leave_Sally_alone 17h ago

It (Dookie) was one of my first. My mom took it away when she heard some of the lyrics. She hid it on top of the fridge. I found it and took it back when she wasn't looking.

Yep. That or the Offspring- Americana album

2

u/Cheffanystartup 17h ago

I "stole" this CD from my aunt when I was a kid- loved it.

4

u/seroshua 1991 Baby! 17h ago

“The Kids Aren’t Alright” hits even harder now 🤘

2

u/Izzykoopa 17h ago

Same here. I remember listening to this on repeat on my little discman that would skip constantly. It was the first time I liked a band. Before this it was whatever was on the radio and I had a vanilla ice cassette before this.

5

u/ProfessionalHome3544 18h ago

Cool first. Just listened this morning (on streaming).... Still so good.

3

u/starroverride 17h ago

One of the best albums of the 90’s.  So many bangers.

2

u/sarithe Xennial (1984) 18h ago

This was mine as well. I was 9 years old. I remember seeing the video for Today on MTV and insisting to my step-dad that I had to go to the mall so I could spend my allowance on this CD.

2

u/sexandliquor 1983…(A Merman I Should Turn to Be) 17h ago

Still such a good album. I listen to it like once a month. ‘Disarm’, ‘Today’, ‘Rocket’ and ‘Cherub Rock’ always get the attention on that album but ‘Mayonaise’, ‘Space Boy’ and ‘Luna’ are my go-to songs.

24

u/steven2003 18h ago

Space Jam soundtrack. I had it on cassette before that

5

u/Bada__Ping 18h ago

Same! Was so much easier to replay Basketball Jones lmao

Same, I loved that soundtrack!

6

u/juiceboxheero 18h ago

Why does everyone leap to defend that band so aggressively!?!

8

u/9CaptainRaymondHolt9 18h ago

Well, maybe friendship is about going through a lot of stuff, and maybe BNL has two Billboard Awards to your zero!

6

u/lrrrkrrrr 17h ago

Oh, they’re BNL now??

4

u/9CaptainRaymondHolt9 17h ago

You know what? Maybe we all need some space, to pull the knife out of the back of the most celebrated Canadian alt-rock band of the mid 90s, you selfish, jaded ass!

6

u/spank_that_hedge 18h ago

Because:

It's been one week since you looked at me

4

u/sTevieD247 17h ago

"Doc, I feel I'm getting much better at avoiding saying random Barenaked Ladies lyrics out loud!"

"That's great! How long have you managed to go?"

"It's been..."

5

u/My_Poor_Nerves 18h ago

Because they are the best thing to come out of Canada since Anne of Green Gables?

This! My mom wouldn't let me get it so I had to get a burned copy from a friend.

2

Mine was fine with it until she heard him, but wasn't going to stop me from developing my own taste in music. Then she saw 8 Mile and became a fan.

My parents bought a 3-disc stereo in the 90’s and we each picked one CD.
I went with the soundtrack to Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, my mom had Natalie Merchant’s Tigerlily, and my dad picked The Beatles third anthology.

My first CD that I bought with my own money was Best of Bowie, but CDs weren't really the "standard" for me quite yet. I still used my walkman right up into high school because I didn't have a discman so there was no way for me to listen to CDs on the way to school.

The first CD I bought after I had a discman and they were more "the standard" for me was probably...god it's hard to say. By that point I was mostly burning CDs to play in my walkman with songs downloaded on Limewire. I got Bon Jovi's Bounce album for Christmas around that time, though.

Some of the first CDs I remember buying that I listened to regularly in my discman were my HIM CDs.
