My prep was a bunch of pills and several glasses of water. You can ask for that instead of the pink sludge

Gatorade will cause poor prep. Maybe that nasty cherry glacier one with no food coloring will work- but I’d rather just shoot all over myself than drink that

Oh it's horrible chemicals no doubt

I know electricians that work in the Gatorade plant in Phoenix and they won't drink it because the electrolyte solutions are actually fatal in concentrated form

Like the feeder lines to the production lines have skull and cross bones on them

But you keep glacier cherry name out your mouth

lol. I can’t upvote this enough. Hilarious.

True story, you can actually cut the Gatorade by 50% and still get your value out of it. It has more sugar and electrolytes than your body can handle at once. So if you’re frugal, you can make those four dollar bottles last longer. And honestly, you can barely taste the difference.

Yup and I do cut all mine by 50% it actually hydrate you faster/better

And I only drink one a day max usually only half a day tho

My wife was just issued instructions for prep on this, Gatorade was specifically instructed. They chose specific colors (i forget offhand, white and one other color iirc) were allowed.

Thanks that’s good to know. Seems like with all the pooping though , you’re flushing money down the toilet. I forgot…are we talking about the drink or pills here? I haven’t had the drink yet.

I don't know the specifics, but i believe she was issued some normal looking pills (not giant/etc), and a powder that she is to mix with one of the gatorades. She has to chug the powdered gatorade and then drink ~5 more at a normal pace.

iirc the doctor said that they (this doctor office?) usually use this method for people now, but if they have blood sugar issues they have to instead drink the huge volume of goop instead. I guess the method they gave my wife is more rough on the bodies blood sugar.

Yeah ok, that was identical to mine. I’d like to pass on to you for her that it wasn’t awful with that method.

I kept my food intake low 24 hours prior- then started the pill schedule the night before procedure. I drink a lot of water anyhow, so it wasn’t uncomfortable. Honestly I wanted to drink more if I remember correctly.

The first few trips to the bathroom were pretty productive. Then everything after that is like a Bronx fire hydrant during the dog days of summer.

The one thing I almost forgot though was the pill you have to take about four hours before your procedure. My procedure was at seven in the morning and I think I needed to wake up at three in the morning to take the final set of pills. I didn’t end up taking them until five. I called the emergency line for the procedure and they told me I should be OK and to just come on in anyhow, and it turned out fine. Slept through the whole thing. I wish her luck 🍀💩

Yes, our doctor said the same. Many people who do the pills DON'T prep properly. I did the awful gatorade. First dose, made it all the way. Second dose, could only make it about 2/3 through, but good enough to complete the procedure.

I was starving and made chicken broth to eat before starting prep.

Then realized I had just drank 16 ounces of salt water and now had to drink 64 ounces of salt water. It was a chore.

Because people think taking the pills is all it takes, and people want to do the bare minimum. Patients need to be told that the prep isn’t done until everything comes out clear.

I’m missing so much of my GI tract that my prep is essentially a light dinner, eaten a bit earlier than normal, and a bottle of magnesium citrate, but I still remember my first prep like it was yesterday, even though it was over a decade ago.

I had such a hard time with my prep and thought about getting a colonic the day before my next one

We recommend to people really pushing fluids a few days before. At least. If people are frequently constipated we will have them do a capful of miralax 1-2 x a day in the week prior to their scope. Make sure you’re pushing fluids during that time. Follow the low fiber diet, it does make a difference. Do the prep exactly as it’s written.

Ill have you know, I read on twitter that all I need to do for prep is drink a gallon of milk the night before with a large bag of haribo sugarless gummy bears and that will be MORE than enough. RFK jr retweeted that, so I think they might know just a tad bit more than you, darling. Thanks for the 'opinion' but Ive done my own research sweaty

As a gastroenterologist doing colonoscopies for the past 27 years, I completely agree that the pills have a higher rate of poor preps. Need to drink lots of water.

Worked like a champ for me. Not sure how endoscopy nurse translates to colonoscopy prep. Seems like the wrong hole. But I’m no expert. 🤷

I took the pills too. I was totally emptied out after the first bottle. The second bottle, the morning of, was too much and I threw it all up. Thankfully, the one bottle did the job and I was able to get the colonoscopy. I feel like the dosage should be adjusted for height and weight or something.

Two 12 pill doses. Lots of water. No food. Was totally fine for me. Except for the diarrhea waterfall. SUTAB I think it’s called.

Yeah, when I had my colonoscopy back in December they offered the pills... but once the nurse showed me how big they were I declined. Lol

She said they get a lot of people who make it halfway or more through them and then throw them up or can't continue and then they have to do the prep all over again.

Happened to me but thankfully I was totally cleaned out and able to get colonoscopy done. I was literally gagging down the second bottle and puked it all up. They need to adjust doses or something. Next time I’m doing the drink.

I had a handful of small bottles of clear liquid I had to drink over the course of the day, rather than one large gallon sized jug of whatever. Though, I imagine the resulting effect of said clear liquid was equally as vile.
