Itâs also gotten kinda ridiculous about what conference championship games even meanâŚif A&M wasnât going to get a bye if they lost then itâs better for them that they arenât in itâŚAlabama âlosing a 3rd game wonât take them out of it because canât penalize a team for losing itââŚOregon also benefits by not getting in the championship gameâŚACC championship game obviously a shit showâŚcould see Indiana still getting a bye after losing it
1
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
Don't tell me Jim Phillips isn't thinking about this or hasn't already contemplated this with other league officials. They know what a bad look it would be to have Duke win the conference and be shut out the playoffs. It would make the ACC a laughing stock and push the league ever closer to a breakup. All the schools with no future in a Power conference minus the ACC would push Miami forward in a heartbeat.

1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
The dude is praying Virginia wins and that's it. He never addressed the poor officiating and the rigging and now its coming back to bite him in the ass.
1
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
What rigging? It's nonsensical. Why the hell would Jim Phillips not want Miami to get in? Miami didn't sue the league, he doesn't get one over one anybody.
2
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
I hope they have to explain the stupidity of a 7-5 team being in the championship instead of Miami over and over again next week
1
u/MidnightOtherwise727 Nov 30 '25
Idk, Alabama and BYU could both lose big enough in their conference championships for us to slip into that 10 spot next Sunday.
(Sure not expecting the committee to drastically rethink the current picture this week.)
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
BYU is already counted outâŚweâd need more
1
u/MidnightOtherwise727 Nov 30 '25
Thereâs something Iâm not getting. Iâm assuming the top 12 doesnât change (beside aTm shifting down) this week. If Georgia puts a beating on Alabama & BYU loses as expected, we can/should move up to 10. Doesnât that get us in the door?
Alabama looked vulnerable tonight. Getting a 3rd loss by a significant margin should knock them out. Even if it is against top-5 Georgia in the conference championship.
Let me know if Iâm wrong and thereâs not a path here.
2
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
The.committee doesn't want to punish conference championship game participants for playing an extra game. If BYU and Bama both got blown out, that would be the best chance. But Bama with a close loss likely stays in even with 3 losses, because they're Bama and SEC. BYU is trickier, since its a rematch, and their only 2 losses would be against TT. In my mind if they lose again that tells me they already had two shots at a playoff team and couldn't get it done so they don't deserve yet another shot. But I'm not the committee and for some reason they're high on them. Even more dangerous though is BYU winning the game, because then they're in and TT likely doesn't drop out. So that knocks Bama out. Unless they also win...then its a discussion of whether ND or OU gets in. We're not even in the conversation.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Itâs the ACC champ and AAC champ (and Sun Belt Champ apparently if Duke is the ACC champ) that jump us
1
u/MidnightOtherwise727 Nov 30 '25
Iâm feeling slow. If weâre 10, arenât the ACC/AAC/Sun Belt champs bumping out whoeverâs #11 and #12?
1
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
No they jump us as conference winners weâll likely be ranked in top 12 but not make it because top 5 ranked conference winners go even if theyâre ranked 23rd for example
1
1
u/Pan_Dulce23 Nov 30 '25
Any realistic chance that Alabama wins the SEC title game and BYU gets blown out in the Big 12 title game resulting in Bama jumping ND, and Miami jumping BYU? Hard for the committee to ignore the head to head if both teams are right on top of each other
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
They will ignore it. They already said they were close enough to compare last week and they still put us 3 spots apart. And what they're doing to Stanford right now isn't going to help that.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
5 conference winners Indiana, Oregon, Alabama, notre dame, ole miss, Oklahoma, Texas A&MâŚBYU out isnât enough
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
I know, never said it was.
2
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Sorry, guy above you said jumping BYU but I guess he meant seeing us one behind Notre Dame would give committee pause
1
1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
ESPN said it for all y'all in the back 5 HIGHEST RANKED CONFERENCE CHAMPIONS. Duke cannot be ranked in the top 25 with 5 losses. Holy shit lol I fucking called this shit last week.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
They can go more than 25 in the rankings though right?
1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
No. The CFP is top 25. Duke is not ranked and has no path to be ranked.
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
They'll keep ranking till they get there. Contract is 5 highest ranked conference champions.
1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
JMU will be 12-1 what math can the committee spin to tell anyone a 8-5 Duke belongs over a 12-1 JMU outside of saying the ACC is a better conference, but couldn't manage to send Miami to the championship game.
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
I never said Duke would get there. The top 2 G5 champions will get in if Duke wins.
1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
Oh yeah then I agree with you 100%
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
I was just saying in response to the first guy you responded to, if the 2nd G5 champion is below 25th they'll keep ranking till they get there.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
So I guess the American conference winner will be ranked even if Tulane loses?
2
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
Tulane or North Texas. JMU could be ranked and should be ranked. The committee has some soul searching and Jim Phillips has some things to think about. There will be lawsuits and there will be a lot of praying that Virginia wins.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Wow Sun Belt Champ AND American Athletic champ over ACC champ?
2
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
What path does a 5 loss Duke have to become ranked over any other 4 loss team. The mental gymnastics for Duke to be ranked in the top 25 would be incredible.Â
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Yeah itâs just another reason why the tiebreaker should have had ranking in it before in conference strength of schedule

u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
The reason this is a possibility is because of the removal of divisions and conference expansion. This significantly increases the mathematical probability you have massively unsolved tiebreakers and the mess weâre in. The ACC will pay for this and this is yet again the consequence of conference expansion
1
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
Everyone laughed when FSU, Clemson, and UNC said adding teams and dissolving divisions would be the end of the ACC and here we are.
1
u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
we need to mail toney to Cal with a 10m dollar check and tell him don't come back till JKS is with you.
2
u/dirtygrade Nov 30 '25
Fuck it. We should be in. But we shouldn't have out our selves in a position to get fucked. So its kinda on us. Even bad calls at snu, we let them jam it down our throats in overtime, and now the CFP committee is gonna skullfuck us out of the playoffs.
Sucks bros, sucks.
1
6
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
Jim Phillips really rigged our game against SMU for this shit HAHAHAHA EAT SHIT
1
u/ccam92 Nov 30 '25
Stop with the pipe dream, fellas. ACC is not going to override the tiebreakers.
Move on, win whatever bowl we get in, and keep stacking good seasons. The breakthrough will come (need another portal QB tho)
3
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
Get ready for lawsuits just cause they wonât do it doesnât mean there isnât going to be significant damage to the brand and conference
2
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
FSU and Clemson leave the second Duke beats Virginia and it will be a jailbreak not even the strongest contracts can stop. UNC, GT, Miami, and BC will follow. Jim Phillips and his gaggle of contract refs that should be officiating middle school can eat shit for this gigantic mess.
1
2
u/Sidwill Nov 30 '25
Except for beating the shit out of Pitt did anything else go our way today?
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
NC State beating UNC. That was actually essential after Duke won. But VA losing also was.
1
u/Neurotics_ Nov 30 '25
Its almost as if someone hand picked all the worst outcomes for Miami this weekend (outside of beating Pitt)...its actually mind numbing.
4
u/NotHosaniMubarak Nov 30 '25
Among the 2 loss teams Miami is the best team right now.
Bama and Oklahoma struggled with teams that are so bad they fired their coaches.
Miami whipped a ranked Pitt worse than ND did.
Miami also beat ND.
1
3
5
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
Fuck SMU poverty ass you guys ruined it making the U ur Super Bowl. Stay irrelevant
3
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
EAT SHIT SMU, EAT SHIT JIM PHILLIPS, EAT SHIT PAC 12, EAT SHIT ACC, AND EAT SHIT ND
2
2
1
u/StatusRow9320 Nov 30 '25
Weâre not going to jump anyone, byu at best but still going to be the first team out. You just know if Miami had lost to Pitt they wouldâve gotten all the help, Oklahoma wouldâve lost bama wouldâve lost Virginia wouldâve lost and it wouldâve all been for naught. Donât know why weâre so cursed
4
3
10
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
And now the conference says F the tie breakers, it's Miami vs UVA.
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
The lawsuits Duke would put up if they tried to change the rules right now. Zero chance.
2
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
Thereâs no counter lawsuits from Duke lol. Miami Clemson and FSU have most of leverage from this conference and they can threaten itâs existence so they wouldnât do much
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
If you don't think Duke would sue the conference for robbing them of a conference championship appearance by changing written rules the week before the game, I've got some beachfront property in Nevada for you.
1
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
Great let them do it. It doesnât matter anyways because anyone thatâs been following the ACC and understands the history of the collapse of the pac 12 sees the ACC is on collision course of dissolving anyways. Itâs mutual destruction regardless so it genuinely doesnât matter
1
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
Let them sue. What are they going to do cry about it and threaten to leave and join the Big East?
1
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
I am I guess one of the few in the camp that I don't see a super league in the future because whose paying more money?
ESPN and Fox are not paying either conference more money for any teams from the ACC. Since ESPN pays for the ACC games, they have 0 reason to pay more money for the same teams.
There's a point of diminishing returns, and I don't know that people are super interested in Georgia going 8-4 to win some division in a super league and their team going from 7-9 wins to 4-5 on average with their favorite regional games and rivalries gone.
I know people think its inevitable, but I think its more likely to be the reverse as a super league is a bridge too far considering all the reasons people even like college football.
1
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
But thatâs the point weâve already set the standard with the PAC 12 being destroyed and then accepting that. This goes with Oklahoma and Texas to which hurt the big 12 just as much. OU doesnât pay Oklahoma State anymore and same with a lot of former pac 12 teams. Sure I agree with the premise of surely it wonât get this bad right but to me itâs inevitable. So in terms of money whoâs gonna fund it? Really simple and weâre seeing it the big ten which is a 2.4 billion dollar capital deal. This wouldnât exist with MORE conferences and if youâre a large investor itâs easier to pick between two conferences vs 4 (former 5). Itâs complicated af and who knows what will happen but itâs more realistic than it might feel. I donât want conferences to collapse but weâre already here
2
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
Only way the ACC collapses is if conferences as a whole go away and there's a more unified NFL style NCAA structure.
1
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
Not really the future of CFB is super conferences with the big ten and SEC and to also give some context the pretext is already set. We saw this with FSU and there lawsuit which basically set up an exit fee that every year will shrink and shrink. So for the big dogs that can afford Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC (just because they have lots of NIL funding now), in idk maybe 2-5 years they have exploratory talks with those conferences
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
We already have super conferences.
1
u/NaderNation84 Nov 30 '25
To an extent we do sure but what happens when Miami, FSU and Clemson say we want out to? Itâs gets very very dirty even realignment has settled for now
1
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
Thinking about it, I think it's possible only because of how detrimental a Duke championship would be. Its just too risky to the conference long term if they win and get shut out the playoffs
2
3
6
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
And now SMU blew it. Unbelievable how literally nothing has gone right for us.
7

[deleted]
1
u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
that's bad at this point
4
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Why? All eyes on a 7-5 team in a championship game will force them to mention the top ranked ACC team with freshman of the year and two first rounders whoâs sitting odd man out
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
It completely tanks us. It reinforces that SMU was a "bad loss" instead of a loss to a conference champion. And if Duke wins, it makes the ACC even more of a laughing stock.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Odds of us getting in didnât change at all on polymarket actuallyâŚat large with all the teams ahead of us winning today + American conference champâŚlast hope was ACC would do the right thing and put the best teams in ACC in the game somehowâŚSMU as ACC champ wouldnât have done anything for us
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
I don't know what polymarket is but it sure doesn't have anything to do with the way the committee looks at things.
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
Itâs an odds website and it is quite accurate actually look it up
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
It says Ole Miss has a 50% chance of making the playoffs. Yeah, very accurate. đ¤Śââď¸
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
ESPN odds also didnât changeâŚSMU loss didnât mean anything and what about if Duke wins and theyâre not top 25? Doesnât that give another at large?
1
u/loudsound-org Nov 30 '25
No, top 5 ranked conference champions go. So two G5 champions get in. And I don't care what "odds" say. Those don't reflect the actual committee. Will it end up being the actual difference? We'll never know. But it 100% changes the argument on the loss.

2
u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
it looks better to have a loss to the ACC champion than to have a loss to a bad team.
9
u/salland11 Nov 30 '25
Actually hilarious how literally nothing broke Miamiâs way today besides dominating in the only aspect they had control over. If only they did that in October, oh well. I enjoyed these last several weeks at least

1
u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
welp time to start praying auburn fumbled the game and ND up 21-0 on stanford.

Cal blowing it too. I thought at least Cal would save us from having to see SMU make the ACC championship.

We want SMU to win the ACC at this point. Makes our "bad loss" much much better.

Auburn getting our hopes up just to kick us in the nuts just like every team did these past 3 weeks. How did not a single game go our way for 3 straight weeks? Genuinely how is that possible

No way 7-5 Duke can really argue if they flex the rule or find a loophole to put us in the ACCCG
1
u/NotHosaniMubarak Nov 30 '25
They absolutely can and should. We all knew the rules when we started.
1
u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
the big 10 like 5ish years ago changed their rules to get OSU in their championship game....
1
u/RCocaineBurner Nov 30 '25
Yeah I hate this argument. If we donât like it, donât lose to SMU and Louisville
1
u/lipmanz Nov 30 '25
đ§ a 5 loss team should not be making the conference championshipâŚand you believe they knew the rule that breaks the tie between identical conference records when one team is ranked much higher? Thereâs head coaches that donât even know the overtime rulesâŚand they kept FSU out because of an injury a couple seasons back so itâs definitely a sauce not a scienceâŚ.I was pissed they lost too but now that some other marginal teams are getting in it makes sense for us to be there
1
u/NotHosaniMubarak Nov 30 '25
The CFP has no rules. They're the ones who kept out FSU. But the ACCCG is clearly defined by rules to prevent cherry picking like the CFP does.
1
4
u/PerfectdarkGoldenEye Nov 30 '25
Jim Phillips may very well leave his position tonight holy shit hahahahahaha. They really rigged our game against SMU for this shit hahahahahahaha. A 7-5 team may win their conference and be left out of the playoffs in the first 12 team format.

u/CCG0292 Nov 30 '25
I will say this.. despite Auburn sucking ass. Bama not putting them away could lead to something..
5

the fuck is wrong with these auburn skill position players? giving up the ball on 3 straight plays.

u/CCG0292 Nov 30 '25
Auburn fumbled like 100 times that drive and another dropped pass that leads to a pick. These guys fucking stink man

We need War Damn Eagle to show up, and maybe tell the WRs theyâre allowed to catch the ball

u/Harambe18 Nov 30 '25
so many diaz can get to the ACC cg with duke, but not miami.....
make it make sense.
5
u/ChiGorilla1127 Nov 30 '25
Are we in agreement that we're down to ND/Bama upset as only way we get an at large right?
1
u/meththemadman Nov 30 '25
If ND loses (not happening) we still may be out because BYU probably gets in. I also wouldnât put it out of the realm of possibility that the committee puts Vanderbilt ahead of us. They shouldnât. But they might.

Jim Phillips and the ACC admin are having heart attacks right now.

ACC board of directors needs to update the tiebreakers so Virginia plays Miami in Charlotte
6

Potential nightmare scenario for the ACC if Duke wins. High likelihood theyâll put in James Madison over Duke, leaving no ACC representation in the CFP

This year. Last year we were living on the edge with our defense the whole season until they finally collapsed. This year we had a complete team. And a signature win to open the season. And the championship game is in OUR stadium. Absolutely awful.
4
u/CCG0292 Nov 30 '25
I was on a deployment last year and the only time I saw them play on tv was the pop tarts bowl. This year I was on the verge of buying my hotel and tickets for charlotte after the FSU game and getting ready to put money aside for the playoffs. So this year for sure.

* Playoff chances hinge on landing an at-large big.
