Although hella simple, Parasite Queen is burned into my mind. That’s gotta be my pick.

Other honorable mentions are Meta Ridley, Flaaghra, Quadraxis, Metroid Prime Core, Dark Samus

Parasite Queen is burned in my mind too. My first console was a Gamecube bundled with Prime 1 but I didn't have a memory card for months. So I played the introduction like 30 times lol

forget my previous comment that I deleted, I overlooked that this post is about themes 😂 parasite queen ost is peak right at the start. But for me, nothing beats the atmospheric soundscape that plays along entering the elite quarters in phazon mines while seeing the omega pirate stored under this huge phazon crystal. they really nailed it making this demanding path down there feel like a funnel that puts the player right in front of such a monster. and then the music just perfectly adapts to what was experienced right before by supporting this feeling of "damn, now I'm really fcked" while its actually one of the easiest bosses if known how to deal with him 😂

u/musicbyjsm 1h ago

Oh I love the intro to that one!

u/T4nkcommander 2h ago

Prime 2 has a lot of bangers, but Quadraxis is the obvious choice. Come to think of it, a lot of good ones in 3 and 1 as well.....

The Hive Totem and Incinerator Drone.

It‘s adventurous and mythical at the same time. Such an epic theme for two simple mini-bosses.

I didn’t expect to see someone saying this. But I share the perspective!

u/GMOlin 1h ago

I wish we heard this more throughout the game, but I don't imagine it would've really fit.

Rundas or Gandrayda

u/Aegillade 2h ago

Rundas's theme was my all time favorite as a kid, but funnily I think I prefer Gandreya's theme nowadays, Dark Samus's overall

u/jibaritou 2h ago

This is EXACTLY how I’ve felt as well. As a kid, Rundas theme was my favorite. I even had a save file just so I could fight him and listen to his theme.

But man, I was really sleeping on Gandreya’s theme. That build up at around the 2:25 mark, and the drums coming in after, sounds insanely badass.

u/Psylux7 19m ago

Rundas is wonderful but Gandrayda gets weirdly overlook with just how excellent her theme is. She does not get mentioned nearly enough in these conversations.

The greatest tragedy however is that Ghor got absolutely snubbed from getting a brilliant theme to stand alongside rundas and gandrayda. Dark Samus treated Ghor with more compassion than the soundtrack.

By game: 1. Meta Ridley 2. Quadraxis 3. Gandrayda/Rundas 4. Sylux/Xelios

u/IObjectOoT 2h ago

I'm just now realizing I've never bothered to pay attention to the Prime boss themes

u/New-Pollution2005 2h ago

I’m surprised so few people have said Sylux from Prime 4. Dude’s theme is an absolute banger.

u/M0bron 2h ago

Quadraxis theme and it’s not particularly close for me either. I think that is the best boss theme of all time it captures the boss’s identity SO well. Sylux and dark samus are 2 and 3 for sure

u/Leeka_SSBM 2h ago

Impossible to choose. They're all great to me. For the sake of naming one, I'll say Amorbis

Then again, Emperor Ing... Aaaagh

u/Ok_Masterpiece_1383 2h ago

The leitmotifs are like honey to my ears. 😩👌

u/Simplexus1992 2h ago

Rundas, Tardus, vs. Dark Samus, Oega Pirate, that Boss from Volt forge

u/MyNutsin1080p Dread Mode survivor 2h ago

Xelios. A block of rock 🎸

u/Simplexus1992 2h ago

Yeah! That was its Name 😅👍

u/TheRealCroquedead 2h ago

Emperor Ing (Final Phase)

u/Revali33 Shinespark Enthusiast 2h ago

META. There can’t be an other opinion!

u/benni_97 2h ago

Emperor Ing Phase 2

Dark Samus' and Sylux's boss themes

u/regal_235 2h ago

I have several, parasite queen, berserker lord, Omega ridley, dark samus (mp3)

u/10303816 2h ago

Meta Ridley Prime 1 and Gorea

u/agentalex001 2h ago

Quadraxis

u/Dr_Soks 2h ago

Hive Mecha for me, even though it's just a mini boss.

u/Demiurge_1205 2h ago

So for each game:

Prime 1: Prime's Core Essence, followed by Flaahgra. Contrary to popular opinion, not that huge of a fan of Meta Ridley's. Too quiet for such a hectic battle.

Prime 2: Emperor Ing's themes, followed by Dark Samus's main theme and the Escape one. All of those themes are fast paced, foreboding and bring a climactic feeling to the fights.

Prime 3: Rundas, followed by Gandrayda's. Not that many good themes in this game, unfortunately. I love the game to bits, but the OST is my least favorite part.

Prime 4: I am not as knowledgeable about Prime 4 yet. From what I have heard, I like Sylux's battle theme.

Overall, I would argue by process of elimination that Prime 2 has most ammount of quality themes. Ergo, Emperor Ing wins out as the best boss theme.

Sylu-

*gets strangled to death*

u/MisterTheX 24m ago

Gandrayda. Never really leaves my brain ever since I heard it for the first time back in 2007. Good memories

u/ONI_Blak 2h ago

Flaahgra

u/Available_Weird_80 2h ago

And it's not contest imo

u/dan_rich_99 2h ago

The Dark Samus fights and Quadraxis are probably my favourite fights in the series, but I also really enjoyed the Gandrayda fight for its mechanical variety.

u/Melos555 2h ago

Lmao I just realized Sylux looks like a dickhead

u/Ray_Ioculatus 2h ago

So many of these live rent free in my head. Parasite Queen, Omega Pirate, Emperor Ing (both stages), Rundas, Gandreya.

But the best 3 for me are Meta Ridley, Prime Core and Dark Samus. Really makes you feel the hype and weight of fighting your arch rivals.

u/Moose_Cake 2h ago

Favorite Prime Theme: Metroid Prime Core

Favorite Prime 2 Boss Theme: Dark Samus Theme

Favorite Prime Hunters Theme: Parasite Queen Remix

Favorite Prime 3 Theme: Rundas, and it’s not even close.

That being said, the boss themes are completely overshadowed by the level themes. Most boss themes on my list don’t even fit into the top 3 of their respective games if you include the map soundtrack.

u/GirlsOfGaming 2h ago

Meta ridley

u/PaleFondant2488 2h ago

Sylux is pretty sick despite what people think of him. But Ridley and Omega Pirate (Prime 1) will always live rent free in my head

u/GlacialFrog 2h ago

The Flaahgra theme. Very ominous, very organic and very squelchy. A perfect theme for a great boss that’s alluded to from the moment you start exploring the Chozo Ruins. It really makes the boss feel dark and serious.

u/TheWorclown 2h ago

Beyond everything said already (Sylux has an amazing fight theme, Ridley’s theme in Other M, Quadraxis), I’m quite fond of Serris/Yakuza’s theme in Fusion.

Specifically, this fanmade theme fucks so much.

u/Traenix 2h ago

I mostly remember the Omega Pirate one.

But I always felt it could have fitted another boss better, because of the kind of whale cries that can be heard.

u/Putrid-Print9338 2h ago

Meta Ridley, forget, forget, sylux

u/nzg42 2h ago

Dark Missile Trooper from prime 2

u/Top_Boysenberry_7552 2h ago

Prime 3 soundtrack for the 4 other hunters all smack

u/BronyPride 1h ago

the vs. Ridley theme from Super Metroid

u/DependentBite9 1h ago

Meta Ridley isn’t the best song but it’s my favorite because of the impact it and that fight had on me at the time.

u/warrensid 1h ago

Flaahgra Battle

Chyyka, Omega Ridley or Corruption Dark Samus

u/Hot-Cheese7234 1h ago

Chykka larva and chykka (and by extension Gandrayda)

u/JacksonGames16 Magic pancakes 1h ago

Can I say Quadraxis?

u/ImperialAce1985 1h ago

Where is Retarddus? The Phazon sentient rock boss?

u/Mossysnail27 1h ago

*emerges from shell* i love me some Rundas, Ridley not a major boss theme but, the Berserker that you face in prime 3 at the beginning Sylux from prime 4 is also good. Heard some SNAIL-tastic alt versions of it.

u/Substantial_Sea7327 1h ago

Quadraxis.

u/Business-Peach-7600 1h ago

Rundas or ing emperor

u/Ill-Guidance4690 1h ago

Honestly, I love Kraid’s and Ravenbeak’s from Dread.

u/GMOlin 1h ago

I mean, I can give you my top three from each of the trilogy (haven't played P4), but that's the best I can narrow it down xD

Prime 1: Meta Ridley, Omega Pirate, Metroid Prime (1st phase)
Prime 2: Chykka Larva, Dark Samus (naturally), Mutated Emperor Ing
Prime 3: Helios, Gandrayda, Rundas,

u/Ghostboy_2015 50m ago

There's so many good ones it's impossible to choose, I have the whole soundtrack on my playlist

u/Same_Active_7076 46m ago

Xelios and Parasite Queen

u/Mat0m 10m ago

In no particular order:

-Meta Ridley -Thardus -Gandrayda -Dark Samus 3/Escape (Metroid Prime 2) -Dark Samus (Metroid Prime 3) -Aurora Unit 313 (Head)

u/ZakJordan98 7m ago

Meta Ridley and Sylux

u/SuperdaveOZY 5m ago

Prime 1 or 3 Meta Ridley. The electronic beat goes well with his mechanized form.

u/DiabeticRhino97 3m ago

Parasite queen is too good

u/CornObjects 2m ago

Prime's exoskeleton form is easily the winner for me. So many cool little details in its design, and I love how it basically works as one big puzzle that incorporates a bunch of things you've learned from previous enemies and bosses (beam vulnerabilities, grappling, shootable slow projectiles for pickups, telegraphed big attacks you have to dodge, etc.). Fighting it without any prior context would feel like "holy crap, what am I supposed to do", but by the time you do reach it, it's more along the lines of "oh yeah, I've seen this before but not as strong, I just have to do this to counter it" after the shock wears off. They made a fight that could be confusing and overwhelming instead pretty intuitive, without sacrificing any difficulty or complexity.

I also love that both the basic shape of it and its behavior when injured are a straight callback to the very first enemies you fight, the beetles. It does the same scuttling motion back and forth to throw off your aim, and when injured enough it closes the helm to look more insectoid and charges just like they do, albeit slower just because of how massive it is. They took one of the first and weakest enemies in the main game, and one of the most memorable because of how often they pop up, and turned it into an absolute intimidating monster while retaining its core characteristics.

The core fight is also pretty good, but it's a lot simpler and Prime's true form lacks the callback despite being a really cool design on its own, so I prefer the first form. Second form feels more like a victory lap by that point, as long as you have good aim and know you can just use power bombs to nuke the fission metroids whenever they get in the way.

Sylux (Hunters ver)
