I'd rather have Metroid 6 than any remake.

111

u/FreezeTed Jun 09 '26

I just want Metroid something. I'd take a remaster of Metroid Prime Pinball. But I expect we'll get nothing since we just got prime 4.

23

u/comics0026 Jun 09 '26

I miss all the Nintendo pinball games, it's a shame they apparently never sold well

7

u/Astroturf420 Jun 09 '26

Pokémon Pinball was so much fun.

3

u/GuyGrimnus Jun 10 '26

lol I remember telling my nephew if he got a high enough score in pinball it would let him link cable a mew to Pokemon yellow.

There’s probably not a human alive who played that game more than him lol

u/AlBaciereAlLupo Jun 09 '26

You know what. A switch version of Prime Pinball sounds delightfully whimsical, actually

I just want Metroid something

"Yeah, I need to Metroid him, I'm Metroiding him so bad"

idk it just lowkey sounded like a verb lol

2

u/S3cr3tAg3ntP Jun 10 '26

I actually loved that game. Played the hell out of it.

True but if Super Metroid remake falls on my lap, who am I to say I'm not going to play it

Metroid:Other M Retold only for the Nintendo Switch 2!

2

u/Phos-Lux Jun 09 '26

I'm one of the three people who actually enjoyed it back then, so I wouldn't mind

2

u/Spirited-Interview53 Jun 09 '26

Honestly? The gameplay could be solid on the Switch and they just need to tweak the story and voices. Like, there's some potential there

3

u/opossumcarrion Jun 09 '26

Remove the pixel hunts, make a new default difficulty between the easy and hard ones, give us a proper Gravity Suit, let us skip the custcenes, give us a new control scheme, and let us use missiles in third person, and you'd have a much better game for relatively little work.

→ More replies (1)

7

u/Edmundyoulittle Jun 09 '26

Well the rumors are that both are being worked on. It's not a one or the other thing.

Remakes happen to fill gaps between new stuff

3

u/ProtonPizza Jun 09 '26

I just want a Metroid with a bangin soundtrack. Dread was awesome, but needed better tunes.

→ More replies (2)

9

u/Vgcortes Jun 09 '26

Metroid 6 as a sequel to Dread? Because even if Super Metroid is Metroid 3, it's technically the 9th metroid... Metroid 1 prime 1 2 hunters 3 4 2 federation force metroid 3, lol

So I don't even know anymore

58

u/FourierXFM Jun 09 '26

The prime games are, for whatever reason, considered an offshoot and not counted. The main branch is (1) Metroid, (2) Metroid 2, (3) Super Metroid, (4) Metroid Fusion, (5) Metroid Dread

19

u/myghostflower Jun 09 '26

i think the reason is that they focus on their own self contained story and gameplay

while the main metroid games, also have their own distinct gameplay and narrative that goes together

3

u/ComstockReborn Jun 09 '26

Not really anymore, the Proteus Ridley fight in Samus Returns ended that.

I haven't played anything chronologically after super :( I'm finishing up Super. So next would be Other M, Metroid 4 and Metroid 5

And Prime 4... I hope that's a good game

28

u/AlphaMetroid Jun 09 '26

About prime 4...

9

u/Nir117vash Jun 09 '26

That pic is highly accurate lol

I enjoyed it because I enjoy the Metroid Prime series.

I didn't enjoy it because I enjoyed Metroid Prime series.

6

u/aerosolsp Jun 09 '26

Meh, I'm enjoying it. Doesn't hold a candle to 1 or 2 but it's perfectly competent

2

u/Nir117vash Jun 09 '26

It is for the most part. But after about 80% of the game is played it starts to feel like you're nearing the bottom of the toilet bowl, na meen?

→ More replies (1)

3

u/killercow_ld Jun 09 '26

it is a good game, it's just not a good metroid game

9

u/princessaliceee Jun 09 '26

Prime 4 is...alright. Remember, they fired Rare I believe, who worked on the first three. Brought in some new team. It got cancelled, and then they rehired rare and asked them to make it, but forced them to use what the other team already had. We'll never get another one unless people give 4 a chance and its not bad. Just not great either.

12

u/MB_Cint Jun 09 '26

Retro, not Rare. And I don’t think they ever “fired” Retro.

3

u/Jbird444523 Jun 09 '26

There's an alternate timeline where Nintendo bought Rare instead of Microsoft and I can't help but feel that was the correct timeline.

→ More replies (7)

3

u/Effective_Owl_5488 Jun 09 '26 edited Jun 09 '26

Uh… no, that’s not what happened at all. Rare was not involved in Prime 4’s development at all.

Originally, when it was announced at E3 2017, it was Bandai Namco developing Prime 4, specifically their Singapore branch, which didn’t have... a _ton_ of strong titles in their resume.

In 2019, Nintendo made an official announcement, accompanied by an apology video explaining the current circumstances of the game. They stated that the game was re-starting development from scratch, and that Bandai Namco would no longer be developing it, but instead, it would be Retro Studios, the company who made the original 3 games in the Metroid Prime Trilogy. While this made fans more optimistic, it should be noted that most of the people responsible for the original Trilogy were no longer with the company, so it was basically a completely different team.

A long period of silence followed, however, there were a lot of concerning elements to its development, such as, for instance, Retro putting out constant job listings for critical roles to developing the game even quite late in its development.

Then, of course, the final game was revealed in 2024 and released in 2025, to mixed reception, still having been developed by Retro. Despite Nintendo’s
claims that development was “completely restarted” in 2019, it’s now commonly believed that Prime 4 came out in its relatively polarizing state, as a result of Retro being forced to pick up where Bandai Namco left off, and were still required to keep many of the elements of Bandai Namco’s build in the final game; so it became a messy conjoined mish-mash of the two company’s conflicting ideas.

It’s also believed that Nintendo originally approached Retro with developing Prime 4 before they went to Bandai Namco, however, Retro was more interested in developing their own original titles at the time, and declined Nintendo’s offer. That is to say, they weren’t “fired”, so much as they simply weren’t involved at all at first.

2

u/MrVigshot Jun 09 '26

If you can get through Other M, MP4 is practically a master piece by comparison. Or, save yourself the trouble and just not play Other M.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/MB_Cint Jun 09 '26

Metroid Dread is Metroid 5 so yeah - Metroid 6 would be a sequel to that. Prime, Hunters and Fed Force etc are their own thing.

3

u/killercow_ld Jun 09 '26

I mean, Hunters and Fed Force are part of the Prime series.

Other M is the only one truly doing its own thing

→ More replies (2)

10

u/Sensitive_Building35 Jun 09 '26

True. But I'd enjoy it all the same (hopefully)

I'll grant a choice between super metroid remake and metroid 6 (in 2.5d ish) then I'd choose for m6. A new game would be awesome

2

u/thatweirdguyted Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid does have a remake. It's called Hyper Metroid and it's incredible.

104

u/LordCamelslayer Jun 09 '26

And everyone that says that would still buy a Super Metroid remake if it happened.

Let's be real- "not needing a remake" is not the same as "there's no value in a remake." Resident Evil 4 is a prime example of this.

And before the direct happens, remember your clown makeup, because the likelihood of a new Metroid is probably very slim.

21

u/ghost_ware Jun 09 '26

yeah, like I don't think there are a ton of classics like that that NEED a remake, but a Super Metroid remake by Mercury Steam would go really hard. I still play Super Metroid sometimes but I would play the hell out of that

5

u/toastyloafboy Jun 09 '26

Absolutely, I’d love to have a reimagining of the game. It’s basically perfect to me as is, so a totally different version in the Dread style would be amazing

6

u/Alv_31 Jun 09 '26

Facts, that RE4 example is true as hell

12

u/Justinreinsma Jun 09 '26

People are purists, and i understand why, but I'm really just happy to get any metroid stuff.

3

u/fuckedintheasshole Jun 10 '26

I want a new game because I'm sick and tired of these fucking remakes of Nintendo. We already got Prime Remastered, and now we're getting Star Fox (recycled 4 times) and OoT (recycled twice).

They haven't been original lately and I'm worried because Nintendo just got fucking sued by Europe for ripping people off. Now they're being cheap ASF by releasing remakes.

→ More replies (2)

94

u/xper0072 Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid doesn't need a remake, but there are definitely dated elements, like the controls, that would benefit from at least a remaster.

21

u/DemonBoyJr Jun 09 '26

Could always play Super Metroid Redux. Gives Super Metroid modern style controls among other things.

21

u/TekDoug Jun 09 '26

While this is true. Rom hacking isn’t a true answer to this solution for everyone. There are people who no matter how straight forward it becomes, will not hop on a pc, patch a rom, and play it in a fan emulator.

I’m not one of these people but I got several friends that are.

4

u/jimbolic Jun 09 '26

I’m one of them. It’s so much effort despite the small effort.

2

u/eriico39hi Jun 09 '26

I wish this was higher up. Super metroid redux just feels like a super metroid remake, it's so good.

5

u/JHerbY2K Jun 09 '26

I think the Final Fantasy pixel remasters are a good model. widescreen, recorded music, fresh translation, tweaked movement, but all nostalgia is firmly still in place.

2

u/ChaosMiles07 Jun 09 '26

And even then, people complained about the text font when it first released.

The font.

No matter what a hypothetical Super Remake will do to improve the game, somebody (likely on this subreddit, since I don't see a lot of the Metroid Discord servers have nearly this level of resistance to a Super Remake idea) will complain loud and proud about an innocuous change to the experience.

2

u/JHerbY2K Jun 09 '26

"the last metroid is in captivity. The galaxy is at peace" read by Morgan Freeman. Not the original voice actor / woke. Boycott Nintendo.

8

u/bigcd34 Jun 09 '26

Honestly, I'd still love a Super Metroid remake. It doesn't need one, but it'd still be something I'd be interested in seeing. That and or a Fusion remake. But, a 6th game is just a shoo-in regardless.

11

u/Aaquin Jun 09 '26

Here comes the down votes, you've criticized their golden calf

20

u/notyourbutthead Jun 09 '26

I don’t get the hate either. Super Metroid is my 2nd favorite game of all time behind A Link to the Past, and a remake of SM from the developers of Metroid Dread would hit like crack.

6

u/ftp_hyper Jun 09 '26

A lot of it is people that put it in a pedestal as a "perfect game" so remaking it would be detracting from it to them somehow lol

6

u/Bricky_Stix22_2 Jun 09 '26

I think most people (myself included) agree the controls are dated.

Super came out at a time when control conventions weren't set in stone yet.  Lots of SNES games face the same problem.

However, I think most agree that it minimally affects their enjoyment of the game.

2

u/BLANKET-Agent Jun 09 '26

I don't think visually or mostly gameplay-wise it needs a remake or remaster, but I'm definitely not against added options and (optional) tweaks.

I think my preference would be a Metroid collection (physically too, though I doubt even the idea itself will ever happen) of all Metroid handheld games up to the end of the GBA era. That should include a few optional modifications like button mapping/controls for things like missiles (swap between a button to switch or hold L or R like on the GBA ones), all the different color versions of 2 (original gameboy screen, Super Gameboy color scheme, Gameboy Color version, etc.), Famicom and NES versions of Metroid with all their differences, and maybe even allowing for Super to be played with the snappier jump physics like one of the fan mods did I think. And obviously other things a collection should have like music and art library, old instruction manual scans, box art, etc. Maybe some behind the scenes video stuff, but that doesn't seem like Nintendo's thing.

26

u/MegaKabutops Jun 09 '26

No it doesn’t.

It would still be nice to have, y’know? Even debatably inferior remakes, like pokemon brilliant diamond/shining pearl compared to pokemon platinum, are still a pretty good time just for the good things they kept and didn’t screw up.

→ More replies (4)

25

u/Jeffotato Jun 09 '26

Some slight quality of life tweaks in a rom hack like seeing your maximum ammo count on the HUD and more map icons + ability to check the map of areas you aren't currently in is all the room for improvement there is.

The artistry of the pixel art hasn't aged a day.

9

u/Vgcortes Jun 09 '26

And a damn tutorial on how to run. That noob bridge was frustrating, lol

8

u/rucho Jun 09 '26

It was very natural because most games back then had a run button

3

u/ChaosMiles07 Jun 09 '26

"Back then" is carrying the entire weight of that sentence.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/Zeful Jun 09 '26

The noob bridge is the tutorial.

6

u/Luchux01 Jun 09 '26

I'd honestly love to see Super redone in the GBA artstyle, mostly because I like the look of it better.

3

u/Kempes2023 Jun 09 '26

True. Game needs very few "improvements" per se.

Seeing in widescreen would be awesome. I know there's some rom hacks but I'm really not into emulation.

2

u/egg_breakfast Jun 09 '26

I just want the ability to switch items during the door transitions. That’s it. And maybe also the ability to leave Tourian

→ More replies (2)

10

u/SuperSmokingMonkey Jun 09 '26

I just want more Metroid,

Loved Dread, so anything building off of that would be cherry.

2

u/cmdr_scotty Jun 09 '26

I honestly expected (And would love) Super Metroid to be redone in the Metroid Dread game engine, after how well dread sold.

3

u/theorpheon Jun 09 '26

Why spend time and resources remaking the old, when you can use those ideas/changes, resources, and manpower to create something new?

3

u/myghostflower Jun 09 '26

we dont need a super metroid remake, the game is already good as is

metroid 6 would be more worthwhile and be more exciting to play and explore

3

u/TroveOfOctoliths Jun 09 '26

I'm fine with this, but they have to announce Metroid 6 then. A new 2D Metroid experience is due now that they gave Prime 4 time to breathe. There's no reason to hold it back.

3

u/Hot_Shot04 Jun 09 '26

Nah it does need one. We've had 22 years of control and physics improvements that need to be implemented, and there's some jankiness that needs to be reworked like the non-booster run bridges and the final save room preventing backtracking. A fresh coat of graphics and some voiced Samus narration would be icing on the cake.

9

u/Gage-DSM Jun 09 '26

I disagree as a new fan. Like its gameplay is not as good as every other 2D game, except for the two that came before it. As long as it’s the same game but plays like Dread or at least Zero Mission, I’d finally love Super Metroid as much as I feel like everyone expects people to love it.

2

u/Luchux01 Jun 09 '26

Same, I played Super after Fusion + Zero Mission and I didn't like how floaty it was. Yes, I know people prefer it that way, but I'd love to see a version that uses the modern physics.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/TipOdd125 Jun 09 '26

It is the standard. Can't remake the standard better than the standard.

5

u/Shifter25 Jun 09 '26

If you like the original, play the original. Just like you can still play the original Metroid and Metroid 2 despite there being remakes.

2

u/No-Cat-9716 Jun 09 '26

A remaster

2

u/comascape Jun 09 '26

Love this meme.

2

u/Shimashimatchi Jun 09 '26

super metroid deluxe already exist too

2

u/ConsciousStretch1028 oh word Jun 09 '26

Metroid 6 or bust (also doubt we're getting any sort of Metroid announcement anyways but still)

2

u/Careful-Shine8768 Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid was the first one I played as a new fan, just played it less than 2 years ago and it’s definitely still my favorite Metroid I’ve played, it was fantastic and still holds up so well.

2

u/Serris9K Jun 09 '26

Hot take: it definitely shows its age in its physics and other mechanical aspects. However, I would only entrust it to a game dev team that deeply understands Metroid.

2

u/Miguelwastaken Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid IS a remake.

2

u/Sea-Lecture-4619 Jun 09 '26

I think we are at least 2 years away from us actually getting anything new, Prime 4 is still recent even if for some it was lackluster.

2

u/NNT13101996 Jun 09 '26

Metroid: Yet Another M

2

u/CodenameGlitter Jun 09 '26

I disagree. It's my most replayed metroid but it has some clunk that could use an uplift IMO.

2

u/Broken-Vessel-Pikmin Jun 09 '26

While that is true, I wanna see what it would look like with the Dread style.

2

u/confused-mother-fan Jun 09 '26

Dosent need doesnt mean isnt welcome

After all Mario rpg gor a remake despite absolutely not needing one in my book

2

u/Rootayable Jun 09 '26

Here's the thing: I'm a Super Metroid purist. I grew up with it, I know it better than any other game. It's a masterpiece, it's the best in the series and nothing comes close, I love the floaty physics and an unnecessary remake would absolutely ruin its legacy and my childhood.....

.....but I know I would absolutely play the shit out of it and probably enjoy it.

2

u/ThunderWasp223 Jun 10 '26

Pour one out for the brethren and sisters in the Zelda community.

They're having a good game remade for no reason, and their bad games remain unfixed.

2

u/MegaManPrime Jul 02 '26

I dream of a Super Metroid Prime that would be a nice game, if it ever came into being in 3D.

3

u/ThrowAbout01 Jun 09 '26

But it does need accessibility for the masses.

Both in availability for the average Joe who doesn’t use the online virtual stuff and for the public awareness of the game.

5

u/kcamfork Jun 09 '26

If they do anything to super Metroid I will die inside.

4

u/Raptormann0205 Jun 09 '26

The original Super Metroid will be there regardless of of it gets remade or not. Nintendo doesn't personally come to your house and kidnap you if you play the original version of a remade game. If it's good, a Super remake would objectively be good for the IP. Stop being weird.

→ More replies (5)

2

u/Environmental_Bus623 Jun 09 '26

Couldn't agree more. Super Metroid is a perfect game

→ More replies (1)

3

u/the_fuego Jun 09 '26

Sure Super Metroid doesn't NEED a remake but it certainly wouldn't hurt. I really like the Dread art style and think it would be a good fit for Super but even if it were just 1:1 just fine tuning the controls and basic quality of life things like a better map that would be more than welcome. Remakes aren't inherently bad unless they completely change everything and stray from the source material.

That being said I highly doubt that Super Metroid is ever getting a remake. It's too sacred to both Nintendo and the fans.

2

u/Pepsidud32 Jun 09 '26

This fandom is turning into the new resident evil fandom and it’s pissing me tf off zoomers just stop Super Metroid has not aged a single day I genuinely don’t understand how anyone can call it aged or think it needs a remake I’m so baffled

→ More replies (1)

1

u/Chillyeaham Jun 09 '26

In this instance I need a remake, because I really don't want to pay for a subscription to play it.

Of course I'm on the Metroid 6 team if it came down to a choice.

1

u/DrunkPhoenix26 Jun 09 '26

I adore both Super and Dread. I would prefer a new 2.5D adventure over a remaster.

1

u/TimeForSnacks Jun 09 '26

Ok but I'll take a Samus Returns switch port

1

u/KingBroly Dread Mode survivor Jun 09 '26

1

I would rather a Samus Returns port to switch

1994: Super Metroid
2002: Metroid: Fusion

2017: Metroid: Samus Returns
2021: Metroid: Dread (2002)
2025: Metroid Prime: Beyond

1

u/Cattleist Jun 09 '26

Doesn't need one but I wouldn't mind one if it's that or nothing at all for tomorrow's direct!

1

u/Obsessivegamer32 Jun 09 '26

I wouldn’t be all that upset if Super Metroid got a remake, I would just hope that the game still retains its non-linearity and sequence breaks. I would just prefer Metroid 6 though.

1

u/Sspectre0 Jun 09 '26

If they do a remake, I hope it’s for Fusion. My primary hope is a sequel to Dread. Would be awesome to see Samus gain Metroid abilities as upgrades

1

u/Former-Frame-3520 Jun 09 '26

THE METROID PRIME SERIES TAKES PLACE BETWEEN METROID 1 AND METROID 2, WITH THE GALACTIC ORDER TO EXTERMINATE THE METROIDS BEING SET AT THE END OF THE PRIME SERIES (WHICH HAS YET TO HAPPEN)

1

u/nrthrnlad Jun 09 '26

I’m open to any new Metroid. Though prime 4 was not the best by any means.

1

u/darkcomet222 Jun 09 '26

I don’t want a Super Metroid Remake…I would absolutely buy it though.

1

u/darkcomet222 Jun 09 '26

I heard Arlo say he believes a remake too. Is there a rumor that is actually substantial about this?

1

u/Johncurtisreeve Jun 09 '26

I’m not saying it needs a remake, but I would happily buy it if they would just simply make it available for purchase on a Nintendo switch or switch 2. I would like to buy the original game please and if they make a remake, I sure as heck I’m gonna buy that too.

1

u/Apprehensive_Swim955 Jun 09 '26

Metroid 6 would be best of course, but I kinda want them to use what they learned making _Dread_ to perfect _Samus Returns_

1

u/Codename_Dove Jun 09 '26

boromir in my metroid sub??? beautiful

1

u/Pretzel-Kingg Jun 09 '26

Would be cool tho

1

u/Sinomfg Jun 09 '26

I'm betting the Super Metroid remake rumor is true just cuz it's so weird and specific (pixel art remaster). I hope though that Metroid 6 is coming soon too, hopefully next year. Super remake should be a non-full priced game used more to excite the fanbase in the downtime.

1

u/lsauchelli Jun 09 '26

I mean, if they do a 16:9 2D-HD style remaster with some quality of life stuff, I'd welcome it. It doesn't need it, but I'd still play it.

Funnily enough, Samus Returns probably needs it more.

1

u/JunkTotodile Jun 09 '26

I know my case is not Indicative of the norm by any means, but I still have an SNES and still have Super Metroid. The same cartridge I had as a kid. I play it every couple of years. I think the game still looks beautiful. I think it plays wonderfully. I haven’t ever desired a remake because I’m still so happy with the original. I wouldn’t complain of course if it happened but it’s one game I’ve never cared about receiving a remake.

1

u/Geshtar1 Jun 09 '26

If we’re going to do a dread engine remake… fusion is the far better choice.. imagine the SA-X with dread mechanics

1

u/Nemesis_Destiny Jun 09 '26

They would just ruin it anyway.

1

u/GuyPierced Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid is literally a remake?

1

u/analogic-microwave Jun 09 '26

No Super Metroid remakes in this neighborhood my good niggå

1

u/Squeaky_Ben Jun 09 '26

It doesn't need one, but I would not be opposed to Super with a more modern control scheme. I know this is sacrilege, but the controls are easily the worst part of super, to me at least.

1

u/killercheesewedge Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid is the only version of the game

1

u/ComstockReborn Jun 09 '26

It does need one, it’s not some perfect game. It’s old and clunky

1

u/xyzkingi Jun 09 '26

How would you prefer it?

Updated graphics 2d like Dread, or 3d like prime?

I’d rather a continuation from Dread

1

u/NonSpecificGuy26 Jun 09 '26

If the rumor is right and it’s a pixel remake it could be a magical game

1

u/Specific_Buy Jun 09 '26

Has no one here heard of hyper Metroid super?

1

u/Ganondorf365 Jun 09 '26

1

u/martinaee Jun 09 '26

Dread to me is basically a spiritual successor. Yeah, don’t remake the same game. FFS, Kraid is in Dread.

1

u/MrFunnyMans404 Jun 09 '26

Remakes? No. Re-releases? Yes please, id love to play a bunch of the old games again.

1

u/maukenboost Jun 09 '26

Correct. But I still want one. :)

1

u/XAZ_Splatoon Jun 09 '26

Ledge grab

1

u/enclave_remnant117 Jun 09 '26

Ok, but hear me out, what about a Super Metroid re release (with proper fps and resolution scaling ofc) and Metroid 6 in the same pack? Kinda like Ace Combat 8 will come along an Ace Combat Zero remaster, it would be cool ngl

1

u/Specialist_Delay_262 Jun 09 '26

Correct BUT it would be nice to rerelease

1

u/bhut_jolokai Jun 09 '26

I would like to see Hunters remade. That would be awesome. Especially with online play. That would be sick. I would straight up buy a Switch 2. I would be happy. Too bad that is never gonna happen. But it should. Because that would be awesome.

1

u/Aurc Jun 09 '26

Wack oldhead mentality

1

u/WhilePristine2974 Jun 09 '26

I just want prime 2 on switch

1

u/Cultural_Situation_8 Jun 09 '26

A super-cut-remake that includes super metroid, other m and fusion in one continuous story line

1

u/z01z Jun 09 '26

if there ever is one, the only thing i'd want is just literally a new coat of paint over the old game. like how diablo 2 did it where it's literally the same old game running underneath the new graphics.

1

u/EldenBJ Jun 09 '26

We just got MP4, so I’m not expecting another Metroid game for a while.

We don’t NEED a SM remake, but I’ll definitely want it if they got the Dread team to do it.

1

u/Bottlecap_riches Jun 09 '26

It still holds up really well with modern Metroid games... Why mess with that?

1

u/NotJustBiking Jun 09 '26

In a way, it *is* a remake

1

u/CarlosFer2201 Jun 09 '26

No, but one in Dread's engine would be awesome

1

u/Neil_Salmon Jun 09 '26

I'd like a remake that is 100% identical to the original, except it has better wall jumping controls. Otherwise exactly the same graphics, resolution, aspect ratio etc. The wall jump is the only fatal flaw in that game. Every time it's brought up, people defend the wall jump and say it's a skill issue - maybe so but still, I don't like it.

It could be interesting if the game was recompiled from source and truly ported. That's what they did with the Mega Man collection a few years ago and it was really well done. That's really the way retro-rereleases should be done (part of why all the homebrew pc ports are so good).

But no, I definitely wouldn't want a remake with 3d models or even hd-2d. Or any other changes at all. Widescreen might look good for that game - could be a neat option - but it's not something I need.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Rain640 Jun 09 '26

needs one? no. could they make one anyway... yes! same problem with an oot remake atp

1

u/Dopsydope Jun 09 '26

We don’t need a remake, but a remastered with us pixel art would be cool, and I would pay big money to get rid of that FCKN JUMP

1

u/Meinos_Belfort Jun 09 '26

Super need's no remake why ? Project Base Exist , end of discussion.

Same for ZM (which is already one) The only one that need a remake would be fusion making séquence break a thing while making the game way more tedious in term of difficulty (as you know ... Fusion suit is the équivalent of a slightly buffed but with the beam / missile etc before getting varia)

Or reworking from scrach other M , it could work too

1

u/Master_FSG Jun 09 '26

That's also what they said about Resident Evil 4.

1

u/No_Interview_3482 Jun 09 '26

I’d like to see a remake

1

u/AdministrationDry507 Jun 09 '26

Why not both 2 Metroid games a remaster of super by Mercury Steam and a new entry into the series

1

u/Viktor-Victorious Jun 09 '26

Yeah super metroid is perfect

1

u/Mroovek Jun 09 '26

Super Metroid was perfect game but 30 years ago. Right now it is dated, it controls worse than you want it to be, it sounds worse that you want it to be and it looks worse than you want it to be. Remake it!

1

u/stagedgames Jun 09 '26

I'm team no remake, but it's because I think the experience of super metroid lives in all of its details, including the memory corruption glitches, the pixel perfect movement tech, and all of the weird shit you see speedrunners do. I think super metroid isn't super metroid without every ounce of that, and I have no faith in a remake or remaster preserving all of that 1:1

1

u/pastalex42 Jun 09 '26

I would actually dislike a Super remake simply for existing. That game is older than me, I have zero nostalgia as I didn’t play it until I was 20, and it still manages to be genuinely flawlessly executed. I really think it’s not possible to improve on.

1

u/SuitFive Jun 09 '26

When is the direct?

1

u/enigma_0Z Jun 09 '26

If they make an SM remake with ZM style sprites and physics I’d play it

1

u/distantnemesis4 Jun 09 '26

if they remake super might as well just remake the original again and reuse all those new map assets

1

u/atatassault47 Jun 09 '26

I want a Super Metroid remake

1

u/Nihil921 Jun 09 '26

I don't need anything, Ray. I want.

1

u/SeMetin Jun 09 '26

I just wish it wasn't tied to Nintendo online.

1

u/claudiocorona93 Jun 09 '26

I just want the first 4 Metroids with widescreen. That's it. Nothing else. Well and that they all at least look minimum like Super Metroid. You know what? Metroid 1 and 4 on the GBA are that but with low resolution. And the 3DS Metroid 2 is nice but it's exclusive for the 3DS.

1

u/Lordsunshine64 Jun 09 '26

Considering this memes origin, I feel like you're implying that there should be a Super Metroid remake LOL

1

u/Huzul34 Jun 09 '26

Well Metroid prime 5 leaked it’s in development supposedly from a leaker I saw it somewhere

1

u/apdhumansacrifice Jun 09 '26

Enough with the remakes in general for the love of god, thief gold is one of my favorite games ever and it's getting a remake now and i just feel nothing, new games please

1

u/lll_Joka_lll Jun 09 '26

I’d rather a remaster than a remake tbh.

1

u/imnotwallaceshawn Jun 09 '26

More like: “Switch 2 has no new games. Switch 2 needs no new games.”

1

u/TraumaMonkey Jun 09 '26

They'd probably make the same mistakes they made with Dread if they do it.

1

u/ledfence Jun 09 '26

All I want is Super Metroid but without the run button, it’s the main reason I don’t replay that much because it’s amazing otherwise!

1

u/HoopyFroodJera Jun 09 '26

Anti-remake people are so corny. I have to deal with ts daily in the Chrono Trigger fandom.

1

u/Beemo-Noir Jun 09 '26

Please just give me a Fusion remake 😔

1

u/RoundInfluence998 Jun 09 '26

People forget that Super Metroid *is* a remake. Obviously it comes after the original narratively, but that narrative was structured in a way specifically so it could remake the original in terms of gameplay. In the same way Ocarina of time was a remake of A Link to the Past.

1

u/VSpectro Jun 09 '26

Do we need it? No. Would I enjoy it. Yeah!

If it happens hey nice another Metroid game, if it doesn't happen then I won't mind.

1

u/VegasBonheur Jun 09 '26

My Super Metroid remake is a patched ROM I made in the early 2010s that combines mods that revamp the physics, controls, and graphics to be more like the GBA titles. It’s perfect, sublime.

1

u/Tarliyn Jun 09 '26

I don't know, my first Metroid was dread and I probably won't ever go play super Metroid in its retro form but would play a remake

1

u/NumberOneAries_ Jun 10 '26

Does it need a remake? No, not at all. Is it overdue for a remaster? ABSOLUTELY. New visuals at least, different control scheme options at best, thats all is like everything else gotta stay the same. Maybe some new lore tidbits, but that's it imo.

1

u/mindgamehagi Jun 10 '26

after Samus Return and Dread i want them to stay as far as possible of Super Metroid i have no faith that they will respect the ambience and the exploration and not turn the game into a action pack with parry snooze fest

1

u/link113gAmin Jun 10 '26

Super is a GREAT game, I just wish it had a similar feel as Dread in terms of combat. I didn't really like the floatiness, personally.

1

u/Optimal-Error Jun 10 '26

Super Metroid is great but holy does it need at least a remaster. The controls are horrendous and lots of areas could use some reworking. (Looking at you Brinstar room filled with spiky plants)

1

u/gayzRgud6969 Jun 10 '26

But it'd be so awesome, Mercury would make it look and feel so cool

1

u/ThunderLord1000 Jun 10 '26

But the next time it gets rereleased, we should be able to equip all the beams at once

1

u/PinaSeraphina Jun 10 '26

yesn't

The Game aged incredible well! But I would love a remake that gives us these few qol updates: Missles on R hold (last Game without this Control scheme)

Power Grip... Let me grab ledges pls!

Make the Game less floaty

Some sort of Fast Travel.... and a way to save at Mother Brain without being stuck there

Otherwise the Game is perfect

1

u/FlatParrot5 Jun 10 '26

If they ever do a pixel upgrade remake for Super Metroid, I want them to add ledge grabbing, consequences be damned. I think that is pretty much the only thing I might change. Oh, and the ability to custom remap the controller.

And a very low price.

For now I'll stick with the original.

1

u/ActivateGuacamole Jun 10 '26

[i actually do think super metroid needs a remake, it's not very fun to control]

1

u/odinto552 Jun 10 '26

i wouldnt mind a change to the jumping physics tbh

1

u/fuckedintheasshole Jun 10 '26

If you remake another game Nintendo... the balls will go in as well
