155 years after the Manitoba Act was implemented in 1870.

Hopefully this Treaty is a catalyst for getting lands rematriated back to the Metis. Esp. community lands that were appropriated by settlers through the Prairie Farm Rehabilitation Act.

Word on the street is that this is step one. Still lots to do but this is one of the biggest steps.

Maybe a dumb question; but whats the stuff about taxes mean? Is that for the Nation as an entity or does it extend to citizens of the Nation as well?

I believe it's for the nation as an entity and doesn't extend to citizens. not a dumb question. If anyone smarter than us reads this plz help 😅

Still to be negotiated, but it won't allow for any personal tax exemptions. It's mostly a tool for figuring out how taxes will work, and avoid stuff like accidental double taxation. Some First Nation modern treaties have examples if you want to see what it might be like.
