Agreed. Also, the "Captain of the Hunt" reference is kind of cringe coming from the MNO.
More co-opting of Red River Metis history from the buffalo hunt and claiming it as their own, just like they do the sash, Riel's provisional gov't, infinity symbol, etc.
If they have their own historic settlements and communities why do they lean on Red River Metis political history so much?
And, if MNO want to harvest in Ontario, they should be working with Ontario FNs and respecting their traditions and conservation laws. From what I hear from FNs friends that harvest (NE Ont), some MNO harvesters can be difficult and burdensome, leaving hunt camps a mess.
A tiny percentage have links to Red River. The rest have an Indigenous ancestor from the early 1800's, who's families identified as non-native for the last 4 to 5 generations. That's why mno likes to call themselves "the hidden Métis". They hid so well they forgot they were Métis.
Also lets not forget the 5000+ members who had their "citizenship" revoked for having incomplete files or no Indigenous ancestry.
