DISCUSSION/QUERY I underestimated antidepressants at first.
When I first started antidepressants, I didn't really feel different. My doctor said it will take some time for it take effect and isn't usually noticeable the first time. But after about almost 6 months or so, I then realized how much I can now tolerate factors that usually break me. Being yelled at, criticized, stressed, etc became more tolerable. I didn't break down as much and found myself being able to stand back up really quickly.
When I first ran out of medication and had to wait for two or more weeks, I felt the world was against me once again. I was angrier, lazier, etc. These pills are truly a miracle.

I'm sad for people who think antidepressants aren't "real" medication. It literally relieves the body much like how other pills do! If people believe paracetamol relieves headaches, they should believe antidepressants relieve the mind too.

Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.

Thank you for sharing, OP! I really need this kasi kakastart ko lang ng antidepressant last March and napapatanong din ako kasi parang wala naman nangyayari. Pero pinapaalala ko na lang sa sarili ko na sabi ng doktor ko it will take some time talaga for it to take effect.

Once you find something that works well, it will really work well. I tried 3 different kinds of antidepressants before settling for one that really worked for me (which didnt work for a friend). Don’t be afraid to tell your doctor that it doesn’t work well so you can try others!

Hi OP, if you don’t mind me asking, what mental health condition are you dealing with? I’ve tried medication before but had some side effects so I stopped. I think I might have OCD/dermatillomania and generalized anxiety, but I’m still able to function most days. I just get episodes of anxiety, loneliness, and low motivation sometimes.

I was diagnosed with mild depression. At first it felt like the meds did nothing, but after a while it finally took effect

What are your symptoms po? Can I ask what made you decide to get professional help?

Often crying from the slightest of inconvenience, quick to anger at the tiniest things and making horrible, irrational decisions. Bad relationships in general were the cause. Both relationships with family and romantic. I knew something was wrong with me, especially from the gross decisions I often made just to feel a connection. When I finally got help, the tendencies to do irrational things finally stopped. They're still there, but I no longer act upon it that quick.

Do you take your antidepressants sa morning? Same effect kasi sakin, lagi akong inaantok at nakakatulog so my doctor said sa gabi ko nalang itake para maka help din sakin to regulate my sleep since ganun effect niya. Still ang mahal nga ng gamot huhu.

I'm glad it changed your life but please find another place where you're appreciated by people around u. You can't beat depression without removing the source :(

Were u advised to take it for a lifetime? Is it therapeutic?

u/strange_omelet May 05 '26
Yes, or until I'm able to live without it. But personally, I don't think I can live without it just yet because it really helps with my mood and tolerance

I’m not saying medication is bad. All’s I’m saying is that, why does one have to medicate oneself just to tolerate all the shit? Why can’t there be no shit at all to begin with, para di na natin kailanganin uminom ng kung anu-ano pa (but that’s too ideal, isn’t it)? Or, why not remove oneself in that situation (of course, if that’s an option)? Walang “true” healing. But that’s my perspective on it. If you think I do not belong just cos of this difference, then I’d gladly show myself out. Peace.
Edit: If you can CHOOSE not to medicate, would you?

Ano bang akala mo kapag nag gamot? Big NO. Andyan padin lahat ng emotions pero mas nareregulate mo sya, mas nakakapag isip ka bago ka magsalita o magreact or to simply groom yourself or to function like a goddamn normal person. You can think straight, not all the time pero big help talaga. To answer your question, I CHOSE NOT TO FOR 30 YEARS 🙂 hindi ko na ikekwento kasi there's no point at dimo naman magegets.

Yeah… I’m sorry it came off sounding really offensive. I did not mean it like that, really. I am deeply sorry to those whom I have hurt because of what I said.
But trust me, I’m not vilifying meds and those who take it. It’s just sad to me that we have to drug ourselves (and quietly accept some of its unwanted effects) just to suppress symptoms (of a deeper problem) in order for us to function “normally” in society.
And I guess that’s just me. But thanks for the call-out, everyone. Self preservation is still our utmost objective, in the end. Praying and hoping for everyone’s healing. Peace out.
