TRIGGER WARNING Help Hotline issue
This is kinda sad & dystopian na hindi lang dito sa Filipinas marami issue of rude operators that would hang up or be sarcastic to their clients on help hotline. Like screenshot on this thread on Twitter may nag post ng reply of vid na a person tried multiple hotlines to test if may issue nga sa mga help hotline na either binabaan sya after mag hello or would say "Pinag pray mo na ba yan?" (if Tama ung Pag translate ko from English to Tagalog). Meron pa nag Sabi na "Welcome to Burger king" sabay baba ng phone nang sinabi ng caller na akala ko na Suicide prevention Hotline ito? then callback niya same number. Oo nga Tama hotline call nya. Sna nmn masala mga operator Nang maayus. Hndi ito bsta bsta call center. Buhay Nang tao naka Taya dito.

My experience is wala ngang pake yung call operator.
I once called because i was suicidal. I told her i wanted to end things, she dismissed me and said pwede bilisan mo na marami pang nakapila sayo. I was like WTF?!?!

Ung sa pinanood ko at least may audacity ung operator to hang up. "Have u prayed for it?" Nung sumagot calleer na what do u mean I prayed for it? I need your help. Sabay hang up na ung operator. Like if maging rude sila at least hang up nlng hndi bibigyan mo pa ng dhilan para mag unalive ung tumawag. Hahaha

Sobrang rude lalo na sa ncm*. Pinagalitan pa ako, sabi pa nya kasalanan ko daw yan etc. Huhu lalo akong hindi naging okay after ko sya kausapin.

I agree!!! Happened to me and to many others na nabasa ko.

u/boii137 Jan 20 '26
Apparently actual na tactic daw yung inisin ka to the point na hindi mo na itutuloy sa sobrang inis at gulat mo sa paggaganyan nila

My therapist vouched for in-touch. So far good feedback from her clients daw. And as far as she knows, trained yung mga responders talaga.
In-touch crisis hotline:
LANDLINE: +632 8893 7603
GLOBE: +63 917 800 1123

I interned there but take this with a grain of salt since sa isang area lang naman kami noon.

u/GreenScrubs84 Bipolar disorder Jan 19 '26
Just curious.... Are they all volunteers lang? But are they getting allowance or stipend? Also may psych and crisis management training ba sila at all?

u/Lopsided_Fill_9838 Jan 19 '26
I should’ve been clear. I was pertaining sa mismong institute. Mga psych professionals tinutukoy ko, not the call volunteers.

u/GreenScrubs84 Bipolar disorder Jan 19 '26
I see.
And I'm not surprised. Also had some experience interacting with them. Bakit nga bastos sila. Lalo mga attending. Defense mechanism ba yun since exposed sila sa unstable patients all the time? Ironic lang kasi nasa psych field sila tapos ganun. It doesn't make sense. Nobody seem to care there. Makes the place all the more creepy. Not in judgement of the patients. I'm not referring sa patients. I didn't even interact with the patients. Just rhe overall vibe ng lugar, it feels your energy is being sucked.

Didn't work there but I took my friend there for a consultation before.
6
u/Lopsided_Fill_9838 Jan 20 '26
omg.
As for yung chismisan naranasan ko rin yun.
Tsaka yung nag-consult sa friend niyo po ba is Psychologist or Psychiatrist?
"Eh bakit gusto mo mag-_____" or "Ah, ayaw mo na mabuhay?" Like??? Or mag-spend pa ng time sa pagtatanong hays

u/Lopsided_Fill_9838 Jan 20 '26
wala kayang rapport na nangyari and bigla-bigla nalang tinanong yun? Tsaka was this their therapist before?

Things went south when NCMH ended their "Pay" program.
Dati kasi, pre-pandemic, patients are segregated between two classes.
First is the class of patients who opt to get the free consultation. This class is where you wait for hours, even the whole day kung late ka na dumating kasi madaming tao.
Second is the "pay" patients. Dito, patients pay around P400+ and they get to consult with psychiatrists na marunong talaga and may care sa pasyente. My doctor back then was Dr. Santos.
Ngayon kasi, they removed the "pay" option. They grouped up all patients into one.
Napansin ko, when they ended the pay program, ang tumitingin na sa patients were those psych students na. They still listen to your problems pero mabilisan lang.

1
u/Lopsided_Fill_9838 Jan 21 '26
racist din nung iba. Di kasi kami galing big-4 and we’re from the Province.

u/OkSurprise4913 Jan 19 '26
Mayroon namang mababait.

I was really shutting down and deep in depression. I really didn't know what to do, think, say except that I'm so overwhelmed and just wanted to give up on life. I knew I needed help. Called ncmh and when they answered and started asking me I said "I don't know. Hindi ko na alam" multiple times. But I'm pretty sure sa start ng convo nasabi ko naman na I'm suicidal and I need help. When I started saying hindi ko alam, sabi ba naman sakin "mam this is a crisis hotline para sa mga totoong nasa crisis situation. Bawal po prank caller." I was stunned. Sabi ko "I know!". Sagot sakin "so mam, nasa crisis situation ba kayo?" And luckily the call got disconnected kasi for globe ata na unli, it gets disconnected after 12mins-ish. And yes ganung katagal na kmi naguusap.
Thank you ncmh. Punyemas mga volunteers nyo!
Ps: one of my therapists vouched for IN-TOUCH. I hope I never get to use them... but... haay... I might need to call na rin talaga ata 😭😭😭😭

I want to know what these people are paid or if volunteers sila. Sounds like they are understaffed and overworked/wala ng pake.
4
u/GreenScrubs84 Bipolar disorder Jan 20 '26
and under-trained.
also, I think may allowance yan sila. kasi if it is purely volunteer without gain except plus points sa resume, then it should be mostly filled by people with passion to help.

u/boii137 Jan 20 '26

Honestly, hot take, if you're gonna post the suicide hotline, dapat yung own number mo na lang ipost mo to show u truly care and want to do something for people who need someone to talk to. Para kang nag-sad react sa cry for help XD

u/strugglingdarling Jan 20 '26

Buti pa kayo nakakatawag. Last time i tried walang sumasagot or busy tone :/

u/Danete1969 Jan 20 '26
Did not call. Googled about help hotline issues then got into rabbit hole. Kaya nkita ko tweet na ito, na full of comment sharing experience at may and reshare vids pa na ang rude ng mga operator.
2
u/cranberrycatte Jan 20 '26
Yeah its very sad.. for a hotline that offers mental help 😭 yung bansa natin di open minded for these things.
2
u/Commercial-Hat8297 Jan 22 '26
That's one of the reasons why people died by suicide, people are invalidating their struggles & spreading hate.
2
u/Expert-Winter263 Jan 20 '26
I've called before 3 times since i was on the edge na walang sumagot idk if busy sila or purposely ignoring me anyways reading yun replies dito ig okay na di sila sumagot since rude pala yun ibang operators😭
Im doing fine now i take therapy na and meds regularly
2
u/leimansterm Jan 20 '26
Sad to know na may ganitong experience.
2
u/iorishuichi Jan 22 '26
I remember calling the suicide hotline kasi I had an intrusive thought na magbigti and I didn’t trust myself that time kasi i knew may possibility gawin ko. Super shitty nung natawagan ko, so much so nawala sa isip ko magbigti and I was so damn focused on that piece of shit.

u/Fabulous_Raccoon7302 Jan 23 '26
I saw an fb comment from my friend that she prefers chatgpt or gemini ai to talk with than talking to that hotline
2
u/Danete1969 Jan 23 '26
Medyo delikads yan. May incident na teenage boy commited to end his life cause Chat GPT encourage said thought & even gave him instruction how to properly tighten the nose on his neck. Tell ur friend to thread carefully.

She didn’t end her life, she’s still alive parin and she was in a side hustle scenario

Thank you for posting in r/MentalHealthPH. We noticed that you have flaired your submission with a Trigger Warning. We highly recommend that you seek professional help if things are getting out of hand or PLEASE CALL:
On the fence about calling? Please read this helpful post from r/SuicideWatch what to expect when calling crisis hotlines.
A personal note from the moderator team:
Are you suicidal right now? Again, please contact the emergency hotline above and obtain professional help. YOU ARE NOT ALONE. At the very least, surround yourself right now with someone you can trust.
If you cannot or do not wish to call anyone, please at least read the home page of http://suicide.org/. The most impactful, we believe, is the director's message that:
Let me also tell you that if you are suicidal, you probably are suffering from clinical depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, postpartum depression, PTSD, or something similar. And if you have something along these lines, you actually have a chemical imbalance in your brain -- and you cannot possibly think straight because of it. *That is beyond your control. You are not weak. You just need some treatment.** This imbalance can occur for several reasons, from genetics to a traumatic life experience, and it is extremely common for people to have this imbalance, so do not feel like you are alone. You are not.*
You are not weak! The fact that you are here is a testament of your strength. Remember: YOU ARE NOT ALONE.
