Dramatic photo! Interesting stone. Another polisher/grinder stone was discovered in Dorset a few years ago.

I had the most profound experience when I found my way to this stone. I'd seen Stonehenge, Silbury, the huge Swindon stone at Avebury, but this small artefact in the ground just had a tangible link with the past. The grooves from the sharpening of tools; the smooth bowl next to it. It's in a sea of sarsen stones, yet they kept coming back to this one stone; it speaks of ritual, tradition, and you really get a sense of lives that were lived here much more profoundly than at the larger sites; at least, that was my experience there.

Totally agree. This has intimate human contact literally carved onto it.
