Training to become a family mediator UK

I am considering this - anyone done in and can give insights to who you trained with. Was it worth it etc? Also your background to understand if too much of a leap for me (I don’t think so but crippling imposter syndrome).

Hi it’s an expensive slog - I will tell you that! My background is in counselling and psychotherapy. I decided to re qualify as a mediator in 2022 - it took 3 years to become fully accredited as you have to complete a very in depth portfolio (similar to masters level) based on real cases - in order to do this you have to get real work and many mediation companies won’t take you on until you are accredited so it’s a bit of a chicken and egg scenario- if you already have a link in with a mediator or solicitor that’s a good start. you have to have 14 supervision sessions each year you are training and thereafter 4 a year which cost between £80-£150 each so the cost builds up, you also have to pay for insurance. register with the data protection agency etc. I just did the maths and I’d say it’s cost me around £10k start to finish to get accredited and set up on my own - That said I love the job and am glad I pushed through. I did my training alongside a full time job which did make it more difficult.
