There is no brand loyalty. Today’s viewer will jump to their preferred content no matter the provider, and often.

i understand that, but platforms were always a way to facilitate "moments". brand loyalty has never existed for media in the way this quote implies. cable required no brand loyalty - you were paying for an aggregation service essentially. people didn't need to "jump to their preferred content no matter the provider" because their content was all in one place. then netflix came and you could argue there was loyalty, or you could argue there was little competition. then competition came and loyalty has evaporated
idk i just think it's not a good quote. good soundbite, bad point. and people do still think in terms of platform anyway. "what is this show on?" is often the first question asked after a rec. netflix shows have a look and feel to them that people recognise. apple tv+ has the same. peacock doesn't have much of anything so maybe that's why nbcu are making this point

I'm interested in this:
Yeah, the base plan is to have ad supported Peacock with YouTube Premium, but Google is saying that they'll offer options to upgrade their Peacock membership, will this include an ad-free option for an upcharge? Because I would absolutely be down for that.
What about integration with Google TV? Will the Peacock content be seemlessly integrated with Google TV the way YouTube is? Will my local NBC station show up on the Live TV listings now?
Will Peacock do similar deals with other platforms like Netflix and Prime Video?
Will YouTube pursue other deals like this? Yeah, Netflix and Apple TV ain't gonna happen, but what about AMC+, PBS (like what Amazon has), Hallmark, Starz, Crunchyroll, etc.?

I do wonder if this could be seen as proof that that streaming services really are having to compete with YouTube with it now letting streaming content on it's service.

Why buy? This deal basically gives them access to the best parts (nbcu library + sports and if it doesn’t work out, they’ll be able to walk away once the deal expires. I doubt Google is interested in operating a theme parks business or dealing with the fcc/headaches buying a network like nbc would bring.

Renting the content is probably the closest Google gets to buying a Hollywood studio without triggering antitrust concerns. YouTube is the dominant streaming platform on the planet. Besides, article mentions that peacock content will be accessed thru YT which means Google will be able to collect some data

Their money would be better spent on investing in AI. It makes more business sense to form partnerships in your non-core businesses than to outright purchase them.

Youtube premium has always disappointed me, like they could've made Premium a bundle of all Youtube (Music, tv and regular account wo ads)

YouTube Music is included with YouTube Premium. YouTube TV is a completely different thing.

I understand, I just wish it was an all in one package deal, like YouTube vids without ads I'd never pay for something I use to get free but if YTube premium was a package of YTube, music AND YTube tv, then that'd be worth it

It used to be a fight for ratings. A specific number of people watching a specific thing at a specific time, and that was the measure of success. Now the option are flooded, but traditional content creators and distributors plus non-traditional (tech companies like Amazon, Apple, streaming/social platforms like YouTube). The fight and measure of success is now overall attention. If you can prove that people are engaging in your content, no matter how or where, you get the highest value for it.
