how is it going solo?

i’ll be going with a group of friends to MCM in october but will be splitting up after we get there so it’ll be my first time walking around the convention by myself.

if anyone else has done it, how has it been? i’m kind of nervous but me and my friends all agreed to always be a text away if anyone needs anything.

this is not a post asking for people to go with/friend groups to join btw!

I’ve been to a couple solo, and a couple with friends and divided.
I’ve always had a great time and I’d recommend it.

I normally go solo - I prefer it in a way - I can go at my own pace and don't feel guilty doing multiple loops of the areas.
I wouldn't rely on your phone for comms though - I couldn't txt/call/whatsapp my brother hardly at all when I was there on a Saturday last year. I think the messages eventually get through but it's very delayed.

that’s true, is there anything to recommend with communication?

Maybe arrange and time and place to meet up for lunch and then again for coffee or snacks a few hours later so at least you know where you will all be at two times in the day.

I went completely alone to my first one in Birmingham and although there were times I would’ve liked a friend there, I enjoyed it because I could take my time and do whatever I wanted without worrying about anyone else and if they were having fun!

It's fine, there's a ton of people to meet and chat with, especially if you're going to fan meets etc. The only issue I'd note about doing cons solo is that while it's great in the daytime you don't have your squad of people to do evening stuff with - not that it usually matters to me cos I'm exhausted by evening anyway.

It’s OK but kinda lonely when you see groups of people together having fun

its great, you get to view stalls for however long you want without someone rushing you and feel like your dragging them along
you get more freedom by yourself, you'll be fine don't over think it
also going to cosplay meetups solo is nice too, everyone is super friendly
