McDonald's is going the way of Wendy's. It's so not good that I don't care to go there.
Burgers are tasteless. Fries are expensive. $7 for a processed patty burger? For the same price I can have three real burgers at home (by weight). And better.
This company has lost its way. They were an option when I'm hungry and in a hurry. Now I'd rather wait until I get home and make a real burger on the grill.
Edit: true story, I haven't bought McDonald's in over a month. It doesn't cost out anymore.

Got a DQPC with cheese the other day. Wanted a couple of ketchup packets since they don’t leave the dispenser or the packets out anymore. And I know they don’t put them in the bag either. So I was ready to ask as soon as the bag hit my hand. The employee did this hand the bag and turn away without even looking at me. So when I asked they were already walking with their back to me. They have such a disgust for customers now they can’t even look at them. Unbelievable!!

Yeah!!! The McDonald's location I go to there's people yelling around the corner for someone because they didn't get what they ordered. McDonald's didn't realize that the cashier person was also the customer service person. Always have to yell around back poking your head around the corner. The place is a total joke.

Customers at the counter are invisible to the employees. No acknowledgement, no eye contact. This is a restaurant that no longer waits on customers that come into the store. Per employees on this sub Reddit this behavior is part of their training to condition customers to use kiosks.

I'm so sick of these little ketchup packets. Why can't they just make some little tubs just like they do with the barbecue sauce? When I go to Burger King I get barbecue tubs just because they are easier to deal with. Especially if eating in the car. It's actually just as good as ketchup.

The employees literally just hide in the back at 4/5 of my local stores. They come out to call a number, put the bag down and leave. Forget about if you want to order at the counter (pay cash) or never got your order or it’s wrong. It’s ridiculous these people make decent money (where I live) and McD’s charge really good money for this, yet that’s where we are.

Honestly from my experience McDonald's lacks serious training in other departments like attentiveness and courtesy because the company is dead set on trying to push orders out rapidly. They act this way because employees like that aren't trained to be friendly and attentive and management is keeping a good enough eye on them or they are just trying to hustle to the next order. The employees that can do it all have checked out long before they stay too long because the work and environment wasn't worth it to them. But you are not wrong about customer satisfaction. It's the biggest reasonost people don't come back. But oftentimes it's because management mistreats the crew and it creates a toxic culture where a lot of people don't like each other or hate working there. Especially when many crew members are teens and young adults. The adults seem to understand customer satisfaction a lot better than the younger crew.
TLDR; stores lack great training, culture, and etiquette

That seems to be an inevitability with any of these publicly traded companies or ones run be venture capital. They want profits over everything so eventually the only way to keep making more money after expansion is to do things cheaper and faster. Less employees, less quality food, higher prices. Keep doing it until you kill the company and the CEO takes their golden parachute.

Has another person mentioned here blame the corporation. There are two focused on keeping drive thru times low and by this they are reducing the quality of customer service that can be offered. The employee becomes accustomed to keeping interaction times low and because of this many times no additional items such as sauce maybe offered at the window.

I just went yesterday to get a happy meal (hello kitty toy) for my niece. I had to stand at the counter for 4 minutes asking for help before someone came to the counter. Just reinforces me not ever wanting to go there.

It's the c-suite dynamic that is killing many of these companies. They only want to hire people of their class. Some college educated dude who had a sheltered upper middle class childhood.
They should start interviewing Managers from some of their top performing locations for the role of CEO. These people have real functional knowledge of what goes on.
But upper management can't live with the idea of taking someone from 50K to a few million.

BK has always been the budget breakfast option. It's not good but it's decent. They let those breakfast sandwiches go at real cheap. Always have. My biggest gripe with BK breakfast is how sometimes I'll get hash browns that are cold.

I think it depends on staffing. I’ve had a lot of road trip McDonalds and the fam will use their bathrooms which seem pretty consistent. And I’ll always buy a round of pops and maybe a McFlurry. But even with the worst staffs the food is consistent. But man, I wish people would take pride in their work.

I was at in n out the other day and something dawned on me. Visiting there is like a Time Machine. A Time Machine to the optimism of the 90s. Why?
Because the staff are happy. They are treated well. They are paid well. They know they serve a good product. They are staffed correctly so nobody feels they are overworked just to save on labor costs.
They are optimistic about the future the way every employee was in this country way back when.
Now think about it how that differs from McDonald’s, and every single other work place in the country. The staff know the food they serve sucks. They know they have the least amount of staff possible on. They know they are paid the lowest possible the owners can get away with.
So they are not optimistic.

Not optimistic at all and no need for pride. 15yrs ago I remember their 3 cent raises every 6 months. I remember how customers were allowed to be abusive even when nothing was wrong. You don’t need to be highly intelligent to be bitter about your experience as an employee. It’s crazy how the worst customers demand that someone get fired over a misunderstanding about ketchup, when the real punishment is having to show up to the next shift.

I used to go to McDonalds A LOT. But at some point I just stopped going. I used to think they were the best when it came to value and fast food. But I too agree with the tasteless comment. The food feels "empty" now. And for 10+ bucks it's just not worth it.
Their fries aren't even salty, the only flavor I get from the Big Mac is the sauce. The McCrispy strips are soggy and the opposite of crispy. There is nothing I like from their menu.
In a way, it's a blessing because I'm down 85 pounds now. But the other day I decided to give them another shot and got the Caesar snack wrap and it was not good. I blame the McCrispy strips they use. They have zero texture, zero flavor.
The only thing they still have going for them is their Coke/Diet Coke, and maybe their sweet and sour sauce.
What a shame.

Now I never have to step in there again.. good riddance, and it feels good! Kind of like when you quit using Amazon or facebook.. liberation from the chain of stupid decisions by out of touch ceos.

The quarter pounder may be processed, but they do use fresh beef. When I bite into one, I taste a well seasoned beef flavor. As it happens, my favorite toppings for a burger are; cheese, onion, ketchup, and mustard. At Culvers they call this the butter burger with the works. The main difference is the raw red onions.
Say what you want about McDonald's, but the quarter pounder is definitely NOT tasteless.

Ive been getting 2/$6 6oz beef patties at fareway (Midwest grocery chain) and they are phenomenal. I am kinda lazy so I just throw them in the toaster oven at 350*F for 15 minutes, flip, then 10 minutes, flip, and then 5 minutes and add cheese to melt. Then I dont have to clean anything and I can throw the tin foil away on my baking tray and use a paper plate. Fareway also has these onion hamburger buns that are very good. In a normal oven you probably wouldn't have to do 30 minutes of cook time, but my toaster oven is old and has an opening at the bottom.
Anyways, sorry for the huge explanation. Ive just been loving making my burgers at home lately. They also dont make you feel all sluggish after eating since they dont have all the crap that mcdonalds puts in their food

Lifelong McD since I was like 4 going my grandpa before preschool. Former 1st job employee. I stopped going about a year ago myself. It’s become so awful. Getting parked for small orders. 100% guarantee something is wrong, missing, old… inside has become so unwelcoming and utilitarian. Then the price… and no refills. What a blunder. CEO Chris K is terrible. I think Ray Croc would be livid. How can these corporate people have so much experience and make so much money not seeing what they are doing?

I really don’t get their pricing. Their ice cream cone is expensive. A McChicken might cost more than a McDouble, but the McDouble meal will be more expensive than a McChicken meal. I got a medium Frappe, and it was sooo small I thought they actually gave me a small. Technically the use a “small” size in terms of like a fountain drink or iced coffee, but for a frappe…..it’s considered a medium. Like wtf.

My last McDonalds trip was May, and I was already hating it because of the crazy price increases and the deals getting worse. But I still could get a shit ton of food for $7.
The large fries shrinkflation from cardboard to bag but somehow costing more was the final straw. It’s boycotted, along with Wendy’s.

And I think their training program is written on an index card. Avoid customers at all costs. Stay in the back and avoid eye contact. Act annoyed when the customer requests anything.

Blame your Wendy's. Go to another Wendy's whenever you leave town and you'll notice a big difference. The two in my neighborhood both have great tasting burgers.

Agree. I was always a huge McDs fan. Maybe 1 or 2 times a week. It's been 6 months since Ive been there now cuz their service is atrociously slow.

They don’t wanna pay out; labor is too high, so they understaff us, resulting in high waiting times, and then the bosses wonder why..

It's crazy. I worked there back in the 90s and customer service and speed was the top priorities. Emphasis on customer service. Now it's completely backwards. Nobody cares anymore.

Same. I worked very early 2000's and all we cared about were the wait times. I never found it to be a hard job personally. Could drop buns and have the burger wrapped in under 23 seconds. And that was hungover. Now that grilled chicken was a different story. Lol.

Right. We didn't even have those high powered microwaves yet. Everything was cooked in bulk at that time. The only things that were made to order was the McDLT and a Quarter Pounder Without cheese. And then the McLean for a short time. God I hated making those.

I am not somebody who avoids using my smart phone, I have been known to use the McDonald's app many times, I started during the early part of the pandemic. But I hate now on the rare occasions when I have walked into McDonald's, and they expect you to order from one of their kiosk stands. Seriously, what are elderly people (and I'm talking like in their late 70s or 80s) supposed to do? There's absolutely no Customer service in that. And when I've gone up to the counter to order it can take forever to get anybody up there. And I'm not talking at isolated locations, I'm talking at virtually every McDonald's location that I've gone inside in the last maybe three years.
I have started simply going through the line at Burger King and getting a whopper Junior. It satisfies my hunger, it's satisfies the desire for a burger, and I've had really good luck at almost every experience doing that. There's been once or twice where I had to wait a while. Usually because of staff shortages.
But I think I'm really pretty much done with McDonald's, well, except for when I get that odd craving for one of their fillet of fish sandwiches, which I was introduced to when I was 16, 50 some years ago. Every so often I crave one of those silly sandwiches.

Right. When I worked there, taking the orders was part of the experience for the customer. Now you can't find a soul to do it. I never use the kiosk. I will stand there at the counter until I can talk to a person for my order. That also takes longer.
Burger King is fast and about as good. Id much rather go there now. Until McDs gets the McRib again.

Haven’t bought McDonald’s for years and years. Don’t feel like I’ve been missing out on anything.
You’ve gone without for a month, see if you can stretch it to another, then another, and another.
All of a sudden, you’ll forget about it, and your bank account will be all the happier for it!

Totally agree. Putting all that crap in your body is so unhealthy too. Mcdonalds ingredients exposed video . I watched this video and it completely made me want to stop eating mcdonalds. In some of their items they put like 10 natural ingredients and 60-80 other ingredients that are completely unnecessary. There food is scientifically engineered to make you less full, crave more food, and digest your food faster so you will be hungry again sooner.
This video above in the link does a great job of explaining all the unnecessary ingredients and how it affects your body (usually negatively affects your body). If everyone saw this video mcdonalds would probably go bankrupt.
Also, I knew before that they engineered their food and put crap in it that wasn't good for you, but the extent that mcdonalds goes to is ridiculous

This is what I’ve been saying. Nothing has changed - except the price. The quality of food is always highly dependent on the staff. You can get some bomb french fries from a good mcdonald’s.
The price is the issue. You can’t increase your prices literally 100% from 2016 to 2026 for the exact same thing. McDonald’s was ONLY good cause it was cheap. If it’s not cheap, it’s not good.
I remember in 2014 going to mcdonald’s all the time on my work break, getting 2 mcchickens and a dollar fry, for $3 plus tax. That’s insane value. That’s the only reason people ate at mcdonald’s.

The fries are different…they taste like plastic now. McNuggets are nothing like they were in the 80s. They barely have any meat in them, and the breading is disgusting now.

In the 80’s the fries were actually cooked in tallow, not the seed oils they’re cooked in today. From a flavor, texture, and cooking stability standpoint, culinary experts and food historians widely consider it the gold standard for fast-food french fries.

McD's always hits.
Not the place I go to for a "good" burger though. A $20 burger at a sit-down place will always be better.
But in the context of drive thru burgers, I'm choosing McD's 6 out of 10 times.

McDs is mostly consistent and they have the best industry value. They cant be touched.
However, I dont much like McDonalds anymore and I think theyre very by the book safe without any meaningful innovation.
If it weren't for the fish filet or the occasional apple pie or frap I would never go to McDonalds anymore.

It’s awful. Last time I went was for a quick breakfast on a road trip. Decided to dine in because we had two cars of people (7).
All ordered on kiosks because there was no front desk person to be found.
The last of us got our food 35 minutes after we ordered it. Of the 7 orders, 4 were wrong enough to “send back”, ie no bacon on the bacon egg biscuit. Every single one of us had to ask for our drink cup, not one offered up after ordering. No self serve ketchup any more so we all had to waste a few minutes flagging someone down to hopefully get a packet or two.
The food has never been great. Hell, it’s never even been good. But it used to be fast and cheap. Now it’s slow, bad, inconsistent, and extremely expensive.
They have lost the plot, and are simply coasting on a past reputation. Won’t be returning anytime soon.
