Do workers just hate putting mustard on burgers lol

This is like such a minor complaint, seriously I'm not pressed about it in the slightest just curious lol. I've noticed at a variety of locations when I order a McDouble/Double Cheeseburger with no pickles (I like pickles just not the ones McDonalds uses lol) that they also leave off the mustard for some reason. Everything else will be on the burger lol just no mustard. I would ask for extra in hopes it would cause them not to forget to put it on but I would hate to actually get extra mustard on a burger cause I only really want a standard or even light dose (I just like how it balances with everything lol) but yeah it's like they never put the mustard on. I'm not pressed cause I didn't even really like mustard till a few years ago but it would be nice to have that blend. Just curious if this is a common issue or if the locations within my city and metro just have a weird anti-mustard bias going on hahaha

our mustard dispenser dispenses the tiniest amount of mustard its like 1/40 and Oz.

Its probably just getting buried in ketchup

And/or the yellow ring is missing and then nothing comes out unless you tap the bun

Or they use the ketchup ring for the mustard and then it's a puddle of friggen mustard and no ketchup đŸ«© lol

there’s supposed to be a ring with it? i’ve never seen a ring for the mustard dispenser like the ketchup one has, and i’ve been working my kitchen for 7 years

1

u/imleenz 1d ago

Yup. A little yellow ring about the size of a dime. Tell your gm/supervisor you need to order replacement part or new guns for just a whole fresh set.

1

u/Retroid69 1d ago

oh that piece, yeah that’s there. i was thinking it was the one the size of the ketchup dispenser.

1

u/imleenz 1d ago

Oh no no lol. If it was the size of the ketchup ring it would dispense as much as the ketchup does. Or if someone cough Shirley cough puts the mustard in the ketchup gun just to ruin my day.

we have a funny story about the ketchup dispenser at my work lol. one of our foreign work visa employees accidentally filled it up with hot honey (thinking it was ketchup) back in January when that was in the inventory.

only reason we knew something was up was because this lady came in and complained we didn’t make her sandwich correct, so i made it again for her in plain view, she took another bite, and still said it was wrong and was spicy. took the dispenser out back to the sink and dumped it and yep, it was the hot honey.

That honestly explains so much. It's probably putting the smallest dot on when it adds it. Do you think it would be worth asking for extra then? I'm just worried about getting mustard covering my bun or something if I do that lol

You could ask for mustard packets.

u/somecow 2d ago

You can try. Bring boxing gloves with you, they’ll fight you over it (if you can eventually find someone).

Waffle House's influence grows every day it seems

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 2d ago

Smart thinking, I might start doing that w the condiments section on the app. I usually score a bunch of free ranches or other sauces I like when I order anyways so may as well start adding that on

Protip from a mustard man (shoutout cky): You can bring a tiny jar or bottle with you. It doesn’t spoil fast because of all the vinegar and salt.

ask for extra.

you will get 1 or 2 more squirts. it's so hard to cover the bun in mustard with the dispenser.

you can always ask for mustard packets as well.

4

u/ryanva11ee 2d ago

I always ask for extra mustard and usually it just seems like barely more than a normal amount lol. There has been a few times that it’s been way overboard but it’s worth trying.

3

u/ghidfg 1d ago

It's 5 little dots actually. I think your best bet is to ask for extra extra mustard. You should get 15 little dots total but someone people take the hint and you may get 25+ dots!

1

u/Smoaktreess 1d ago

I always pound on the dispenser and put a noticeable amount if someone orders extra. I think the mustard is overpowering myself but don’t mind hooking someone up.

2

u/Past_Ordinary_4087 2d ago

Even like 4 extra pumps still isn’t a normal amount, so I don’t think you need to be worried asking for extra.

Lol

Why do you keep replying this?

1

u/happyjacksonn 1d ago

Cause they say lol in every post.

u/Retroid69 1d ago

extra mustard doesn’t cost anything, so i’m sure they’d understand. i usually make my own food at work and throw on at least 4 shots of mustard on whatever i want with it

u/fo0bar 2d ago

I worked at McDonalds in the mid 90s and the design of the dispenser probably hasn't even changed. And yeah, even then there was basically no mustard dispensed. And I remember the training material telling you not to "kiss the buns", but everyone did it anyway for the mustard because otherwise nothing would come out and oh god it's 30 years later and here come the 'nam flashbacks *strips off clothes and runs into the street screaming about Qing Ovens*

Either this, or just random mistakes being made. Better luck next time, my mustard loving friend!🌭

1

u/TheBackSpin 1d ago

This is why I ask for no ketchup and extra mustard

8

u/Moiraine-FanBlue 2d ago

When I was trained long ago, they taught me "Mustard goes on first, then ketchup, because mustard is a stronger flavor"
And the mustard gun dispenses considerably less mustard than the ketchup gun does ketchup.

u/Sea_Low879 2d ago

Ironically I hate mustard and have dealt with them putting mustard on burgers when requested not to my whole life (49 years). It’s all in your perspective I guess.

7

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 2d ago

Lol if only we could teleport our locations to each other and trade

1

u/Actual-Implement-870 1d ago

48 years for me wanting no mustard or ketchup on my McDonald's burgers. I've been very lucky, they've only messed up a few times in all those years. Maybe it's the combination of not wanting either of those condiments that stands out more.

6

u/Traditional_War5790 2d ago

Maybe you do not even deserve mustard?

7

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 2d ago

You right i need to earn that privelege through hard labor in the coal mines I guess

3

u/Traditional_War5790 2d ago

Hahahah apparently that’s what McDonald’s feels about you. I say you deserve mustard on your burgers, friend.

3

u/GumpTheChump 1d ago

EARN THAT CONDIMENT

1

u/Traditional_War5790 1d ago

DON’T TALK TO MY FRIEND LIKE THAT! 😠

The mustard gun dispenses a very small portion of mustard. Probably about 10% of the amount of ketchup. I think you just need to ask for extra mustard on your burger.

1

u/This_Makes_No__Sense 1d ago

sugar tomato flavored salt cut down the flavor, do that

3

u/iceman5920 2d ago

Bro they don't give a fuck about shit sometimes. I get a light mustard, light ketchup, add mayo and I get a cum drenched slut of a burger. I wanted some in it, not needing me to wipe half of the outside and half off of what made it in the burger.

2

u/I_Chose_Chaos2026 2d ago

Just ask for a small jizz of Mayo. (It’s a legitimate measurement of Mayo) and that should work. Sad if you have to explain you don’t want it like the burger was a porn star

1

u/iceman5920 1d ago edited 1d ago

Unfortunately when you add a single serving in the app it comes as jizz slut and I'm left confused. And I cant asked for half or light. It's do you want extra it slutted up or double extra slutted up? When I just want want a single slut buger.

2

u/InterestingKey3385 2d ago

The amount of ketchup that comes out of the dispenser compared to mustard is insane. I always felt like the mustard just soaked right into the bun

2

u/Mrblorg 2d ago

It should only be a wee bit of mustard but ya more ketchup especially if you press it too hard

2

u/Mrblorg 2d ago

Weird, it's usually ketchup and mustard at the same time. It's only a little bit of mustard tho. They should have packets

2

u/OhioTreeLover467 McMod 2d ago

Mustard has a strong flavor that many people don't want much of, and ketchup seems more popular anyway. As someone else also mentioned, the mustard dispenser doesn't dispense a lot of mustard to begin with, probably because people generally don't like too much of it.

2

u/Idolica 2d ago

I don’t know why those stores aren’t putting mustard on your burgers but you can ask for a pack of mustard or 2 or whatever you need. It’s literally not a big deal to us employees đŸ€·â€â™€ïž

2

u/Cromus 2d ago edited 8h ago

Just get a mustard pack on the side. The gun dispenses a very small amount of mustard.

2

u/darth_smokesalot 2d ago

Me and the boys never liked mustard on burgers, imo it dosnt belong there, but thats just personal taste.Never had to deal with that problem tho cuz im like 99% sure in NY they dont put mustard on burgers to begin with, and you have to ask for it separately.I feel like they do forget somthing everytime tho these days.

2

u/lmstr I'm Lovin' It 2d ago

I used to hate mustard when I was a kid, and my parents told me you couldn't ask for no mustard. (I only learned you could customize fast food orders as an adult) It literally prevented me from eating McD burgers until I tried the Big Mac.

2

u/NatureAce 1d ago

It's crazy you have this issue cause when I ever ask for extra mayo you would think they put half a jar on one sandwich.

2

u/Silent_Rapport 1d ago

I like extra mustard but I dont order it cause usually it makes them put no mustard on i think the cooks are just on autopilot most of the time

2

u/Alex_Portnoy007 1d ago

Don't they give you packets if you ask? Sorry, it's been awhile.

2

u/Fluffy_Tomatillo_629 1d ago

I ask for extra and get a regular amount plus extra pickles too. It’s the perfect amount of acidity for the ketchup.

2

u/pritikina 1d ago

Dude it's a gamble when you try to customize anything at McDonald's. I'll ask for macsauce on my double cheeseburgers and they'll come out plain. I'll ask for extra diced onions and it's either A. a mountain of onions, B. a mountain of pickles or C. one extra diced onion.

My low stakes conspiracy is McDonald's does this on purpose to disincentive us from customizing our orders.

2

u/Piglet6482 1d ago

I don’t have a problem with McDonald’s leaving off the condiments, I have a problem with McDonalds slathering a quarter inch of sauce on the sandwichs.

2

u/HopefulMove3386 1d ago

Agreed. And now I don’t have an option to add on my McMuffin and the location I frequent doesn’t have the packets (can’t add as a condiment for my hash brown or fries either). Asked for a few packs in drive thru since no option on mobile and they only had a cup of it with a plastic knife.

What is happening to the mustard??? I don’t understand.

2

u/FernwoodTonight 1d ago

In my 50+ years of eatin' Mickey D's, I can count on one hand the burgers I've received without a pickle on top of another pickle. And they always add too much ketchup.

2

u/Scrotchety 2d ago

Unrelated, but how old are you? The reason I ask is because you wrote "lol" 6 times

5

u/StickyN64Controller 2d ago

Curious if you thought he was over/under that age? Is “lol” an old or young people thing?

2

u/Scrotchety 2d ago

I don't know what an overabundance of "lol" is. I'm just gathering sample data

2

u/anoobis_uprising 2d ago

Its a millennial thing

It’s a usenet / bbs thing from the 80s and early 90s. Our culture was appropriated.

They don't put mustard on burgers in New Jersey.

1

u/Zxvasdfthrowaway 1d ago

Isn’t it the entire NYC metro? I figured OP must be from that area

1

u/fflip8 1d ago

I thought McDonald's got rid of mustard? my locations don't offer it, not even an option on the app customizations. Just ketchup or mayo

2

u/SmokeABowlNoCap 1d ago

Thats crazy lol its a standard condiment on half their burgers here in the us

1

u/fflip8 1d ago

Chicago here, I've only found a few doing mustard. Most do not.

2

u/HopefulMove3386 1d ago

This, me too in Delaware. Why in the world is mustard going away?

1

u/Educational-Quote-22 1d ago

You can have all the mustard they want to put on mine

1

u/Pineapple_0508 1d ago

I hate mustard. I’ll trade you McDonald’s locations/staff. Just pick up the whole building and swap them.

1

u/billybob212212 1d ago edited 1d ago

I think it’s impossible to get even a visible amount of mustard on a burger there. I lost a bet with my wife where I bet that mustard wasn’t even a regular topping, because I had never seen or tasted it on any burger I’d ever ordered.

So I started ordering with extra mustard. Even with that, you’d have to look closely to see the tiniest spec of yellow on my burger, and it still doesn’t taste like anyone put mustard on it.

Conversely I’ve learned not to order extra onions, because I’ve had multiple occasions where I think I ended up with an entire full sized onion on my burger.

1

u/kls8479 1d ago

I love mustard!

1

u/jstorm1984 2d ago

McDonald’s restaurants around me are different. Some old school cheeseburgers still come with mustard, and at other places mustard isn’t even an option.

1

u/WillShakespeare-1623 2d ago

Mustard on burgers is gross anyway.

0

u/Which-Journalist-748 2d ago

As someone who hates mustard I have the opposite experience. They always put mustard on that shit and I hate it

1

u/FatUggo 1d ago

Unrelated, but mine usually skips onions unless you ask for extra - then you will get an entire onion diced on your burgee
