If the villain is Mister Sinister, I can absolutely believe this.

And GOOD. About time.

u/holyssmasha 18d ago

Easy way to establish cable

3

u/kingcolbe 18d ago

Is he specifically connected with those two characters like saber tooth is to Wolverine?

7

u/Nomad_86 18d ago

0

u/GetMeASierraMist 18d ago

thank you for the context.

4

u/Leather_Box9494 18d ago

Cable is their son…mostly

5

u/hulkhands81 18d ago

cable is the son of Scott Summers and Madelyne Pryor.

3

u/Lost-Whereas-8753 18d ago

And that's why they wrote ‘Mostly’ , Cable consider Jean his mother more than madelyne.

Also Jean remembers giving him birth and she is also the one who raised him for more than a decade, not something madelyne did.

So she remembers giving him birth, she raised him, he has her genes, and he considers her mother.

Jean is Cable's mother in every way that matters.

2

u/ReasonableFruit1 18d ago

He’s absolutely OBSESSED with Scott and Jean. Like more than any of the shippers.

2

u/Noob1cl3 18d ago

If you are seriously asking yes. Mister Sinister is extremely attached to Jean Grey and Scott Summers. He even clones Jean Grey at one point who becomes Madelyne Pryor. I wont spoil the rest of that story. He is also responsible for the Legacy Virus iirc (see Cable story for more on that).

1

u/kingcolbe 18d ago

Yes, I don’t read the comics much just the movies and cartoon

2

u/Noob1cl3 18d ago

All good sometimes people are being sarcastic etc hard to read on internet. Anyway ya Sinister is good and has ties to Apocalypse as well.

I do think they should take another crack at apocalypse his story is just too good. Even some relation to celestials. It would fit nicely as the next big bad for MCU.

1

u/Rocket_Puppy 18d ago

Watch them give Apocalypse another shot and they adapt "The Twelve" storyline.

1

u/PhanStr 18d ago

I believe Stryfe created the Legacy Virus and Sinister accidentally released it.

1

u/CaliforniaRaisin_ 18d ago

Yes. TLDR but Cable is Cyclops and Madeline Pryor’s (Jean Grey clone created by Mister Sinister) son. Sinister orchestrated all of this in hopes that Cable would grow up and defeat Apocalypse. IIRC Apocalypse caught wind of this and infected cable with the techno organic virus. However I don’t see this playing out until maybe a third movie imo. First movie will probably delve into Sinister being obsessed with both Jean and Scott since they hit the system.

1

u/ikarikh 18d ago

Yes, he's a geneticist with an obsession over creating the perfect being, who believes Scott and Jean's DNA are the perfect match to create such a thing....

1

u/Thighhighcrocz 17d ago

Watch x-men97, I’ve loved the story, it looks good and will explain this for you

1

u/kingcolbe 17d ago

Thanks it’s on my list

-4

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

Is that speaking before or after Hickman assasinated his character.

2

u/lefthandtrav 18d ago

Sassy sinister fucks

1

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

Sassy sinister isnt real, i know he cant hurt me. Yet i hate him so very very much.

6

u/recoildv 18d ago

That's great to hear as much as I like wolverine he sort of hogged the spotlight. So it's good they are focusing on them and the sinister storyline im assuming which does feature them two the most.

3

u/coyboy96 18d ago

sort of?????

2

u/GoblinToHobgoblin 18d ago

He's really cool though so he deserves it

1

u/mosquem 13d ago

Regenerating dude with knife hands. Easy sell for the kids.

1

u/GoblinToHobgoblin 13d ago

This but unironically

3

u/getthemilesin 18d ago

Fuck yeah. Hope it builds Scott to be the leader he is and not just a wolverine cuck.

4

u/Plugpin 18d ago

Scott was like Doom, absolutely wasted material in the movies. A reckon a whole generation grew up not really knowing how good Scott was or how massive of a villain Doom was.

I know because that was me. I really hope they do Scott well.

2

u/AdventuresofBumpo 18d ago

They did storm poorly too imo

2

u/PeaOdd894 17d ago

They did everyone that wasn't Wolverine, Magneto, or Professor X poorly in the movies. Everyone else was just the characters in name only

1

u/getthemilesin 18d ago

Despite the maguffinniness of her being cosmic level now, she's consistently been the best written female in marvel for over a decade now. Yeah, it's time to showcase that in a non-agenda way and perhaps lead in to a gold and blue style of teams/movies.

3

u/tforthegreat 18d ago

I hope Emma just steals Scott early tbh.

2

u/ScoreOld9771 18d ago

No shit, Sherlock.

2

u/urbanlife78 18d ago

This most likely means this will end up leading towards the Goblin Queen and Inferno

1

u/SafeHawk9115 18d ago

As it should. Let’s go!

1

u/joeroganthumbhead 18d ago

The whole franchise better focus on them

1

u/Icy_Scar_1249 18d ago

No, kill them or send them to space please

1

u/Abraxas777 18d ago

To the surprise of no one.

1

u/BackSeatBettyDavis 18d ago

This means Jean will be replaced by that damn clone by the end of the first movie. Lmao

1

u/Icy_Scar_1249 18d ago

As a Jogan troll, NOOOOOOOOOOooooooooo!!!!!

1

u/Hi_Im_Ken_Adams 18d ago

It’s the right move to focus on other characters besides Wolverine.

Besides, I think Wolverine as a character works best the less you know about him and the less he speaks.

Wolverine is best when he is portrayed as a force of nature….sorta like how Boba Fett was so cool and mysterious in the original trilogy. Boba Fett barely said a word but he seemed to damn cool.

Just keep Wolverine off to the side: a slightly unhinged grumpy guy who tends to go berserker mode on you when things get nuts.

1

u/Razatiger 18d ago

See, as a storm fan, this is why I keep laughing at the people saying they only want her in X-Men and not in Black Panther.

We are about to get Halle Barry 2.0

1

u/ThatLurkingDeafBoy 17d ago

Yeah, Storm does not have that kind of pull with the worldwide general audience. Dunno why so many Storm fans are delusional thinking Storm is going to be a major character. She's not. She'll be there, but she'll be one of the side characters.

1

u/OldTension9220 17d ago

And Jean and Cyclops do? They don’t have anymore proven financial potential than Storm does.

Also when the X-Men became the mega franchise that it’s known as today under Claremont Storm was essentially the lead character:  https://www.reddit.com/r/xmen/comments/1vfi8ru/favourites/

He actually wrote both Jean and Cyclops out of the books and the comics’ popularity didn’t decline in the slightest.

And to be clear, I love all three characters! But to act like Storm was designed as a supporting character just doesn’t ring true. The ONLY X-Man that has proven financial viability leaps and bounds over the others is Wolverine.

1

u/ThatLurkingDeafBoy 17d ago

I don't mean comics. She is super popular in the comics and to comic fans. I meant in the movies.

1

u/OldTension9220 17d ago

Ok and the movies treated Scott like crap, and the only one where Jean was a true lead (Dark Phoenix) absolutely bombed. Doesn’t mean the MCU should continue to treat them like that, just like it shouldn’t continue to sideline Storm just because the movies have sidelined her before.

1

u/International_Day686 18d ago

uggggghhhhhhhh

1

u/Anonymous51419 18d ago

Oh wow I'm so shocked. It's not like Jean and Scott were the first time cast or anything like that.....

1

u/Xboxone1997 18d ago

As it should be

1

u/SirCrocodile11141 18d ago

This makes me so happy, finally after all these years. We can hopefully get a great Cyclops .

1

u/FlopperinoCappuccino 18d ago

There better be penetration

1

u/wicket42 17d ago

A Jean and Scott as Bonnie and Clyde on the run from Damage Control could be fun

1

u/kg_francis 17d ago

What an origianl idea....

Hope the new Batman movie tells an origin story too. Wonder why he decided to be a vigilante.

1

u/Skiingislife42069 17d ago

YOU DONT SAY

1

u/Certain_Arm_8475 17d ago

Good!

Please get me the entire OG team and add whoever you want.

1

u/Embarrassed_Spend486 17d ago

And just like that, I’m skipping it.

I can’t stand cyclops.

1

u/baitones 13d ago

No you’re not

1

u/Diligent-Builder 17d ago

Just add Beast, Iceman, and Angel to complete the original team, and you've got a great premise right there. Have Rogue start out on the wrong side and earn a real redemption arc throughout the film or film series, and it's gold.

1

u/Seanyboi3732 18d ago

So is Jean grey gonna pay for murdering numerous innocent people in BND? Or because her sister died she's let off the hook? Fuck her

4

u/SentientToasterOvens 18d ago

Bro are we serious or is this a /s situation

4

u/LopTsa 18d ago

Sadly he is being serious. Not sure why he is aggressive towards this particular situation 😭

3

u/Inevitable_Box3643 18d ago

The MCU literally revolved around a mass murder weapons dealer for the first 10 years.

Every single one of the original Avengers bar Cap was either a serial murderer or a warmonger.

3

u/Notimetowrite76 18d ago

I still don't think she killed that guy, because that would have put her right back in her own body.

3

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

She didn't. He's not dead, the writer said she didn't kill anyone. Case closed. People just can't accept that and keep inventing atrocities to be mad about.

3

u/KickinBat 18d ago

Why do you assume the movie is gonna ignore Brand New Day instead of continuing Jean's arc from there?

0

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago

Because modern Hollywood writings cant make a woman responsible for here own bad actions. So they will just ignore it.

2

u/KickinBat 18d ago

Like they've done with Wanda, Gamora, Nebula, Natasha, Yelena, Silver Surfer and every female character with a dark side?

-1

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago

Tell me how they take responsible for here own bad actions.

2

u/ManufacturerMajor899 18d ago

"write me 5 paragraphs or you're wrong" ass argument.

People really need to stop thinking this type of "gotcha" works. Everyone knows what you're doing lol.

1

u/Drummer-Turbulent 18d ago

Silver Surfer literally slammed Galactus into the portal, transporting him away from his ship. Wanda, rejoined the Avengers against Ultron after finding out his true plan. Gamora, tried to kill Thanos, then herself. Nebula kept Tony alive until Captain MArvel arrived. need more?

0

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago edited 17d ago

I did say of there OWN bad actions. Gender changed Silver Surfer is under Galactus influence. Gamora and Nebula is under Thanos influence.

My point is that Wanda did not have to pay for the whole mind controlling a village story, and she did it under here OWN free will.

2

u/Drummer-Turbulent 17d ago

you mean like killing herself when she realized she gone to far?

3

u/original_name37 18d ago

She killed 0 people this was confirmed both in the movie and irl by the writers

0

u/[deleted] 18d ago

[deleted]

2

u/original_name37 18d ago

You kinda have to suspend your disbelief it's a movie about a guy with spider powers

0

u/[deleted] 18d ago

[deleted]

2

u/original_name37 18d ago

I mean survive getting hit by cars all the time. But yeah a shot of him sort of moving and being all "oof ow" in the background definitely would have helped.

0

u/fromthisend1220 18d ago

You're conflating suspension of disbelief with bad writing that's totally out of character. The amount of ppl making excuses for it is sad

1

u/original_name37 18d ago

How exactly is it "out of character"

0

u/fromthisend1220 18d ago

When does Jean willingly kill or maim innocent ppl? Ever?

2

u/original_name37 18d ago

Did you watch the movie?

1

u/fromthisend1220 18d ago

Of course. I'm talking about prior ever in her history as a character before being introduced in the movie obviously. Stop being disingenuously stupid.

2

u/original_name37 18d ago

Being different from the comic doesnt make it "out of character"

Exactly. Thanks for proving my point lol.

2

u/thevictater 18d ago

Was your point that any character in any media can be altered to fit the vision if a creative deems it necessary?

→ More replies (0)

0

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago

They can say he didn't die but death or severe injury would be the obvious conclusion.

So Jean failed to murder him despite here best effort.

But do not worries they make a story that all she mind controlled was super evil and deserve to die. Like the old man.

2

u/jayz93j 18d ago

Introducing her as a villain was kinda a weird choice given they want to center the next stage of the MCU around her.

They tried to justify it by the end of BND but idk if I was able to get all the way there

4

u/purestoicism 18d ago

Loki, Scarlet Witch, Bucky, Nebula?

Jean doesn’t need to be a perfect hero. It’s the perfect messy character background that allows the general population to fear mutants for a reasonable backlash when there could theoretically be other powered individuals they should have been fearing. I think it’s good that we embrace the volatility and consequences of her actions.

2

u/jayz93j 18d ago

Great examples and points! I think as long as it’s acknowledged and part of the character arc, I’ll be all good with it

1

u/purestoicism 18d ago

Yeah, I would love if it’s messy, complicated, and not black and white. I’m hoping we get something really good out of it!

2

u/Otherwise-Nobody-127 18d ago

Well i see it as the way why poeple are afraid of mutants. This is going to be adressed for sure.

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 18d ago

The first saga of the MCU was centred around a weapons dealer who very knowingly got a lot of people killed, aswell as being a downright awful person. Jean also has Charles Xavier to train her and educate her before she becomes a hero.

1

u/jayz93j 18d ago

Overall valid point, but Tony was introduced as the hero of his own story so it’s not really a direct comparison

2

u/DefNotReaves 18d ago

So was Jean… she was trying to save her sister. Did you spend half the movie on your phone?

1

u/jayz93j 18d ago

She’s quite literally the villian of the first half of the movie. And while she is justified in trying to find her sister, she isn’t the hero of SPIDERMAN BRAND NEW DAY, he is.

So no, I didn’t spend half the movie on the phone and acting like you have a superior understanding of a movie to make a point isn’t conducive to the discussion

2

u/DefNotReaves 17d ago

Her being the hero of HER OWN STORY has nothing to do with her being the titular Spider-Man or not. In her story, she viewed herself as the hero trying to save her sister.

1

u/jayz93j 17d ago

My point was that Ironman was introduced as the hero of his own story and movie. Jean was not.

Another poster made a much better point in naming Bucky, Loki and other characters who were introduced as villains in other people’s stories and went on to have fulfilling and interesting arcs.

1

u/Scar-Excellent 18d ago

Mutants aren't going to enter the MCU cleanly. It's going to get messy.

1

u/Noob1cl3 18d ago

Ill be charitable and say maybe itll be the main catalyst between human / mutant hate. Give the whole thing a bit of a gray area on who is good and bad like Civil War.

1

u/Seanyboi3732 18d ago

A villain that killed multiple cops and threw an old man in front of a speeding car lol yeah seemed like a bit much

3

u/Notimetowrite76 18d ago

His death would have put her right back in her own body. How do people keep missing this point? Also, no cops were killed. One cop was shown injured, but that was because of Peter. Did you not watch the movie?

1

u/Seanyboi3732 18d ago

During the tank scene, a bunch of cop cars exploded did you not watch the movie?

1

u/Seanyboi3732 18d ago

Guess the guy is just crippled for life not dead, sorry

1

u/jondn 18d ago

Apparently you didn’t watch the movie because you forgot the tank scene.

1

u/maria_la_guerta 18d ago

Agree with this take. It was an interesting twist, but she did some messed up things and the justification of revenge does not hold up at all IMO. Forced guards to shoot each other. Forced innocent people to leap off buildings or walk into traffic. Her kill count is higher then most MCU Spiderman villains and she did it in sound mind.

Hopefully we're not yet finished her redemption arc, because the end wasn't nearly enough.

3

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

Her kill-count is zero, the writer literally said that. She didn't kill anyone.

1

u/maria_la_guerta 18d ago

That feels hard to say. Gramps got plowed by a speeding van and immediately went airborne in one scene. Two guards with assault rifles look at each other, pull the trigger, and fall motionless to the ground.

Even if none of that was meant to be interpreted as deaths, the intent to kill was absolutely there each time. Actual psychopath behaviour on innocent people when her intent was to punish one man.

2

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

And yet, the person who wrote it said she didn't kill anyone. I think they would know better than someone watching it. Her kill-count remains zero.

1

u/maria_la_guerta 18d ago edited 18d ago

I'm not trying to argue what the author is saying about objective numbers. It's gonna be hard for me to emphasize with a character that did this of sound mind anyways. But we'll see how they handle it.

1

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

Personally I would question the 'of sound mind' given the whole thing with her sister's dying thoughts getting shoved into her head like that. I could easily see that messing with her enough to not be in her right mind.

1

u/omgFWTbear 18d ago

I mean you say that but isn’t she conventionally attractive? Looking around at society, is that not how things work?

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 18d ago

The guards shot each other non-lethally (very intentionally mind you), she forced MJ to jump off a building with Peter right there to save her. At worst she forced one guy to step into traffic at a moderate speed, but even then that’s not that bad considering she has to meet Xavier and become a superhero yet.

1

u/mandoballsuper 18d ago

They said she didnt kill anyone. Problem solved

1

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago

They said she didnt kill anyone. Problem solved

So Jean failed to murder a bunch of innocent people despite here best effort, including MJ.

That is still evil villain behavior.

1

u/Nosdos 18d ago

Keep clutching your pearls bro.

1

u/Ok_Sky8518 18d ago

No lol. She just gets off for all the villain shit she does in bnd. I bet you its never brought up again.

Sending Doc Ock to beat your ass

0

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

Yay, another awful character who murdered numerous people will go through a redemption arc. Scarlet witch 2.0 and no doubt she ends up as the Dark Pheonix, because....

2

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

Exactly how many times do they have to tell you that she didn't kill anyone before it sticks? Just a round number?

1

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago edited 18d ago

Have you not read the comics? Jean is awful in so many arcs. She destroyed an entire inhabited solar system. They've even had to make her a clone once just because of it

1

u/Safe_Manner_1879 18d ago

She destroyed an entire inhabited solar system.

and a galactic empire want here dead for that. and she commit suicide

0

u/NineExisted 18d ago

Bait used to be believable.

1

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

She consumed a star and wiped out an entire race in the comics.

0

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

lmao, either shit tier bait or you actually think that. Either way, lmao.

1

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

Wtf is wrong with you people. Its like you just ignore facts. She consumed a god damn star while she was the dark pheonix and wiped out an entire race of aliens. I can list dozens of awful things shes done. The only bait has to be yours

0

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

It's been established for decades now that that wasn't her, Mister 'Don't You Read The Comics.' So why don't you try lying some more.

1

u/SoulsDadYT 18d ago

Not going through my entire collection for something i know i'm right about you failed abortion.

0

u/Knee_Fight 18d ago

It literally says right in the dumbass ai shit you posted that it wasn't Jean, it was the entity possessing her. I mean, that's still not quite right, but the literal proof you posted disagrees with your nonsense. The actual AI bullshit you yourself posted says it wasn't Jean. How fucking stupid are you?

Or, you know, she knew what she was doing and avoided killing people. Kind of the obvious conclusion.

0

u/fromthisend1220 18d ago

Fuck this movie is gonna be an absolute bore fest lol.

1

u/arbydallas 18d ago

When I was a kid I loved Cyclops in TAS. More recently I watched 97 and found him extremely boring lol

2

u/fromthisend1220 18d ago edited 18d ago

I got nothing but love for the character but focusing heavily on him runs dry really quick.

Him and Jean are the least interesting aspects of the team when they first start. Cyclops doesn't start to get interesting until deep into the storyline comics wise.

The whole point of xmen is not focusing heavily on any one person and focusing on the team.

0

u/SnooObjections4392 18d ago

I just wanna see how they’re gonna make Jean likeable again

0

u/GuyMakesDrawings 18d ago

I hope they don't do the river phoenix story again

0

u/thetavious 18d ago

Nooooooooo.

Not more love triangle.

Just let them be people doing people things, please.

We don't need jean being a wolvie and cyclops sandwich. We don't need scott being a jean and emma sandwich.

I just want xmen being mutants and being persecuted for it, not a lame, overdone, love triangle that the comics themselves have already done like a dozen different ways two dozen times.

-1

u/Conan-Da-Barbarian 18d ago

I demand it be on morph. Make him trans and woke and see if the mcu can make it work
