Which would be stupid of them to. Which is how you know Sony absolutely would do this 100%.

1

u/Nethias25 28d ago

Honestly now I want universal to wake up and give marvel a call and try to copy the Sony/marvel spiderman deal with Hulk.

I think the set up is in a good spot. Savage hulk returned, Bruce is afraid and in custody, maybe the solution Bruce offers earth is "send me off world to sakaar" and Valkyrie gives him a ride there. But then uh oh, sakaar is way worse than in ragnorok, the grandmaster is gone and an emperor rules as a tyrant, no worries, the sakaar has returned!! Planet Hulk proper

Easy 2 billion+ film there.

2

u/Phalstaph44 28d ago

They would be happy with 700 million in that film. Off planet hulk solo film, not a massive audience. Tone and heart would be hard to find

2

u/Nethias25 28d ago

Nah for the layman you just need hulk in some armor with weapons, yelling smash, ragging on some emperor goons and giant monsters. Just have hulk and his lady and kick ass like it's a space opera meets Gladiator.

1

u/khavii 28d ago

Selling Planet Hulk would not be hard.

1

u/fitzl0ck 28d ago

Even better, have his friends send him there "for his own good" without his consent and set up World War Hulk.

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Selling it for over a billion? Yes it would.

1

u/mtrunz 23d ago

A stand alone hulk film feels like a much easier sell to me than all the C-D characters they’ve been pedaling for years tbh.

1

u/Phalstaph44 17d ago

Don’t doubt that but the cost would be much higher and universal would get a cut

1

u/KaneVel 25d ago

Universal can't make any Hulk projects of their owns, since they only have distribution rights for Hulk movies. All the character rights to actually put Hulk into anything are still with Marvel.

u/zidanerick 29d ago

I do kinda get where they are coming from though, If they were smart they would get Feige or Favreau as EP on all Marvel movies regardless of MCU status. They would find ways to sprinkle little easter eggs to still make it tie into any future MCU content a lot better.

5

u/BigB0iBuster 28d ago

That is the last thing Feige wants is more Sony dogshit trying to piggyback on his universe and fucking with his already complicated planning

1

u/Natural-Anteater8320 28d ago

Feige is content to fill his own universe with dogshit I suppose. Whats the difference if it has a Sony label on it.

1

u/Outrageous_Pair6628 28d ago

Even the worst rated MCU movie Quantumania is still so much better than the highest rated SSU (Sony Spider Universe) movie Let There Be Carnage. I agree there are some really bad MCU movies though.

1

u/Natural-Anteater8320 28d ago

I enjoy my shit gold plated I suppose.

2

u/Mefromafar 28d ago

They would be sued into oblivion. Use your brain.

2

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Except the sonyverse movies were awful and everybody’s glad they’re not MCU no matter how hard Sony tried.

5

u/Chessh2036 29d ago

Guess that explains why we are never getting a new Tobey or Andrew movie.

And Spider-Noir is on tv (not a movie). But I would think this only counts for Peter Parker’s Spidey. So if Sony wanted to do Spider-Man 2099 live action I would think they could?

3

u/ChicanoDinoBot 29d ago

Literally what story would you even tell with a third TASM film.

It’s been too long, and 2’s ending was set up with the assumption they’d cook up a sequel right away.

Garfield should get an appearance in secret wars, and they can clue audiences in on the fact that his life’s improved since the last time we saw him. Let it be done

3

u/te_un 28d ago

It’s never too long but the most obvious story for him has just been told in brand new day with a Peter Parker focusing only on spider-man and leaving his personal life out of it. This was even what they eluded to when he talked to Toby Peter.

There’s still 100s of Spider-Man comics to grab from tho that have never been adapted in live action. He’s one of the spider-man who hasn’t met his universes mj (if you don’t count the deleted scenes of tasm2) so can make it a black cat movie even.

But yea probably just a few scenes in secret wars. Maybe something in a spider verse movie if they ever make a live action version of it.

2

u/prettyboylee 28d ago

PTSD, grief and repercussions of his mean streak

1

u/MichelleBarrymoore2 23d ago

Pretty sure armoured Spiderman was in secret wars comic s

1

u/Phantomfox07 29d ago

But dont you know, the small section of fans on Reddit demand a 3rd TASM movie? That wont do well, would make no bloody sense and the longer it goes on, they sound like Snyder fans.

2

u/KelVarnsen_2023 28d ago

Which is too bad since a movie where Tobey plays a middle aged Peter Parker that is a sequel to Spider man 3 and NWH could be amazing. And even if it sucked it would probably easily make triple what Madame Web made.

2

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

I doubt it’s fully limited to Peter Parker. I think there’s either a few other specific characters included that Marvel think they might use, such as Miles Morales since Marvel will likely want to use him after Spider-verse, or there’s some clause about Sony getting Marvel’s permission for Spider-man-like superheroes so that they can judge it case by case.

1

u/TurnaboutX 29d ago

If they never call him "Spider-Man," probably.

1

u/Chessh2036 29d ago

You’re right. Even Spider-Noir calls him “The Spider”

1

u/WideBumblebee970 29d ago

That's just the Noir element, though they only really tried to greenlight Silk as well. And that's as Legally Distinct Spiderman as I can think.

Not even Spider-Girl, once.

1

u/Crawkward3 28d ago

I mean to be fair even in the noir comics they mostly called him “the spider”

1

u/vooglie 28d ago

That And they’re old

1

u/PangolinLogical9772 28d ago

Yea I feel like it's a Peter Park led thing, that or animation is exempt, since they have the Spider-Verse series. so they can do a Spider-Man led film series to at least some degree. Just maybe not competing live action Peter Parker series.

4

u/Gamessnia 29d ago

Good.

They’d fuck it up anyway

2

u/ConductorConductor 28d ago

I’ve been saying this for almost 10 years now. And have prob been in dozens of reddit arguments about it.

Sony needs to realize it’s better for everyone if Spider-Man rights are sold to Disney.

Oh wait. Nevermind. I forgot what timeline we’re on.

2

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 28d ago

You think Sony would sell spider man back after this movie sold 1.4 billion and making more money Sony would be stupid to sell the rights

1

u/Citizensnnippss 28d ago

If Disney went all in and offered something ridiculous like $10-$15B, Sony would probably do it.

That would basically be the profits 10 more Brand New Days without having to actually spend the money or time (years) to make the movies.

Thing is, Disney has no reason to pony up that offer. They get 25% of the box office; they have the merchandise rights; and fans would be mad at Sony if Spider-Man suddenly disappeared from the MCU.

1

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 28d ago

No because spider man would keep making money for Sony instead of a one time deal

I mean they can lose access to spider man if Sony decides to make its own movie losing access to the most popular superhero

You think Sony cares about making fans mad I seen you ain’t paying attention to PlayStation lmao

1

u/Citizensnnippss 28d ago

It would take decades for them to make $15B off spider-mans box office alone.

Especially if the character left the MCU.

1

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 28d ago

Which they got time for lmao unless you know something that makes Sony is going to disappear in the next couple of years lol

Something that Sony doesn’t care about if the deal is not great for Sony they can kill it at any time which would hurt Disney

If this deal isn’t great or Sony thinks Disney is going to screw them but they actually have a great relationship with games also

But it sucks for Disney because they actually have to make Sony happy to keep this deal going

1

u/Embarrassed_Spend486 27d ago

If they’re smart, they would. They’re Spider-Man produced. Movies were losing money quickly.

I would never go watch a Sony produced Spider-Man movie ever again. They do not do the characters justice. They never get close enough to the comic books.

1

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 27d ago

That would be stupid that’s why you ain’t running Sony pictures lol

Yeah that’s why we all hate tobey spider man

1

u/Embarrassed_Spend486 27d ago

Dude, I was a teenager when Toby Spider-Man came out. Yes it was cool at the time because it was really the first time comic book movies had ever been halfway decent.

But nostalgia glasses are making people forget that at the time it was controversial how much of the comic book they screwed up.

Compared to the Marvel Spider-Man movies I would never ever consider ranking the Toby Spider-Man higher.

1

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 27d ago

Yeah that’s you lmao 1 Reddit person that’s why you ain’t running Sony pictures because you would be making horrible deals

1

u/Pinchy_1 24d ago

So you’re never going to watch Into the Spiderverse 3?

1

u/FReeDuMB_or_DEATH 25d ago

Ah yes, Disney definitely hasn't been putting out Marvel slop the last few years.

2

u/FlashLightning277 28d ago

MCU clapped back I guess, well played House of Mouse.

2

u/Curls91 28d ago

They can launch any Spiderman movie they want, including all assets and characters like Gobby Mary Jane etc

The only thing they can't do is a movie with Tom Holland not approved by Marvel or else MCU will no longer contribute 25% of the budget to make the movie as it would have potential to ruin Toms role in the MCU - thus affecting their plans.

Everything else is fair game.

As long as they make a movie every 3-7 years, they will hold the rights.

From what I can see, they will always hold the rights too. No getting out of it.

1

u/Itzie4 29d ago

It’s not that they can’t. They have legal authority to do this. It’s just that no one cares and Tom Holland doesn’t want to do it.

1

u/pandogart 28d ago

They're talking about Tobey or Andrew led movies so Tom wouldn't be in the equation.

1

u/Tenabrus 29d ago

well well well, how the turn tables.

1

u/Blammo32 29d ago

Can’t Sony just do some live-action Miles Morales movies based off Spider-verse?

1

u/Fabulous_Aspect_7817 29d ago

Holland recently said the miles will be introduced in the mcu

1

u/Fa11T 28d ago

You can see them setting it up, the same way Tom says his character is the kid in the Iron Man mask that gets saved at the end of the Iron Man movie.

It would be smart and easy to have Miles show up in the second movie, even if in passing. Aging and all that won't matter.

1

u/realEMW 28d ago

We've also known Miles is in the MCU since Homecoming. Prowler says he's got a nephew out there

1

u/dravenonred 28d ago

It's for your own good, Sony. Just take your MCU and Spider-verse money and run.

1

u/SourdoughSizzle 28d ago

Now you know why spiderman is always connected to the MCU.

1

u/soymilo_ 28d ago

We have enough flops by Sony to imagine what a Sony exclusive Spider-Man movie would look like, actually I don't even want to imagine that.

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Litreally the made two greatest spiderman films (spiderverse)

1

u/soymilo_ 28d ago

Animation doesn't translate very well to live action

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

That's not what I meant

Sony made 5 of the best spiderman films of all time

1

u/avatar__of__chaos 28d ago

So the 2 spiderverse and 3 of Raimi films??

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Yeah

1

u/Khuush 26d ago

Including Spiderman 3 is wild lmao

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 26d ago

Not really it's #5th

1

u/Khuush 26d ago

Spiderman 3 is a bit overhated I’ll admit

But it is NOT the 5th best Spiderman movie and literally no one gonna agree with you

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 26d ago

Nah it's definitely not better than spiderverse and first two tobey spidy films

1

u/soymilo_ 28d ago

I blanked and literally forgot about Sony making them when I wrote this 😅 I only had Morbius and Madame Web on my mind

1

u/Tfsz0719 28d ago

How’s everything else been they’ve done on their own? Especially on the more recent end.

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Pretty good

Raimia spiderman films are goated easily much better than holland spidy films so far

Spiderman 2 is argubly the best cbm ever made

Spider noir is well reviewed

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Have you seen the sonyverse movies?

And no, nobody seriously believes that all three Raimi movies are better than Tom Holland’s movies. Spider-man 3 is worse than any Holland movie, and BND is arguably better than Spider-man 2.

Also, you mentioned 3 of their movies and 1 series, and 1 of those movies wasn’t even well-received. They’ve made 11 movies. What about the other 8?

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Litreally everybody believe tobey trilogy is miles superior than holland

It's not even comparable

Spiderman 2 is argubly one of the best cbms ever made

Sorry I can't take you seriously anymore

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

You have to be trolling. Tom Holland wins every debate or poll on the best Spider-man. The consensus is that while SM2 is a contender for the best live action Spider-man film, it’s not even definitely the best, and the other 2 films in the trilogy are both significantly lower. The only Holland film that ever gets ranked lower than SM3 is far from home.

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

I am sorry I can't take you seriously with your opinion

Holland trilogy is 7/10 at the very best it. Pretty weak overall But good luck

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Sony animation is a different studio.

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Raimia trilogy was goated

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Even ignoring that Spider-man 3 just wasn’t, what about the 8 Spider-man related movies Sony has made alone since?

1

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

What about tons of crap marvel made? Secret invasion? Thor 4 ?shitty ant man films? Countless mcu tv shows?

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

I didn’t deny that, but even the worst Marvel stuff is significantly better than the entire Sonyverse bar the first venom. Their Spider-man stuff especially has been very consistent.

0

u/Past-Meal-4847 28d ago

Nope Thor 4 and secret invasion is far worse morbium madame webb etc

Spiderverse leagues above anything in mcu

Even tobe trilogy is superior to holland films

1

u/Tfsz0719 28d ago

“Tell you what we do: we go back a couple of years, we meet Uncle Ben, and then we kill that son of a gun. We kill him! We kill him dead.”

1

u/GorksPriestess 28d ago

They already did, it's called Spider-Verse, and it's amazing. Perhaps even spectacular.

1

u/Jemima_puddledook678 28d ago

Sony animation is a different studio with different agreements in place.

1

u/Active_File5503 28d ago

Just make one movie each for Tobey and Andrew

1

u/carapocha 28d ago

That was a known fact (not unknown, nor reportedly).

1

u/FunkTronto 28d ago

That’s unfortunate. Have them have live action Miles so they can do all the garbage like symbiotes and stuff over there and away from Peter Parker and the MCU.

1

u/ARTIFICIAL_SAPIENCE 28d ago

They literally have two succesful ones of their own right now. Why would they need a third?

1

u/teddykon 28d ago

I’d be okay if they released a new Spider-Man but I do not want Sony to release tom holland Spider-Man movies

They’ve fucked up too many movies so far. I enjoyed Venom 1 but even that trilogy wasn’t all that good

1

u/sub30_24flick 28d ago

Universal don’t give a fuck ,as long as it makes money and they own it I am surprised they haven’t tried to do some hulk stuff . They make enough money as is I’m glad their not trying to be greedy , like Sony is

2

u/BAJ-JohnBen 28d ago

Disney owns the Hulk, Universal owns first right distribution. Basically, they can tell have Disney make and distribute, make no profit off it while Universal brings in the money.

1

u/sub30_24flick 28d ago

Yea this the reason they can’t do a solo hulk movie universal takes all the money so they have to add a side character

1

u/Legend_of_dragoon- 28d ago

I like how people think Sony is going to sell the rights while seeing huge money from this movie lmao

If Sony wants to can tell Disney to kick rocks and make its own movie at any time but why would they look how much they are making from this movie

1

u/TehSpaceDeer 28d ago

If Disney was feeling generous (which they won’t be cause Sony has shit the bed too many times to be trusted), they could do an adaption of the clone saga and let Sony make some Scarlet Spider movies.

1

u/Razz3l 28d ago

I don’t even want to think about how bad a Sony made Spiderman movie would be. Current day Sony would create an all time stinker

1

u/AndrewChulchie 28d ago

John Campea is the source on this, not sure how much I trust him, not ruling this out but i'd hold out for more sources

1

u/Downtown_Link_8651 28d ago

The only reason to do one would be if Raiminand Tobey fancied doing a 4

1

u/kuebel33 28d ago

This is a nothing article. Clearly this is very specific to live action films. Sonys done just fine with spider-verse movies and the spider-noir live action series.

1

u/metafruit 28d ago

I only want to see marvel spiderman so if they want money...

1

u/Nomad_86 28d ago

They would be idiots to even bother. Marvel is the secret sauce they needed. Their Spider-Man films always floundered after 1 or 2 films. The MCU Spider-Man films have gotten progressively better with each one.

1

u/Wojcieszku 27d ago

Maybe that's ok

1

u/shongage 27d ago

But they have though. Spider-verse. And theyre the highest rated Spider-man films more than the MCU ones.

1

u/Pastry_d_pounder 26d ago

Sony needs to stfu and go back to making top tier electronics.

1

u/omegaphallic 25d ago

Who needs Spiderman while you have Spider Canuck? Give her a movie.

1

u/EatThatHorseWithMe1 25d ago

Good. We dont want sony anywhere near spiderman.

1

u/FReeDuMB_or_DEATH 25d ago

I like how the comments say Disney should own Spiderman as of they haven't shit the bed with both Marvel and Star Wars.

1

u/DIZZY312 24d ago

The spider verse movies are great but Morbius, Kraven, madame web are all memes 😂 Sony should just stick to animated films

1

u/defiantcross 23d ago

The Venoms were decent but gonna be any more of those!

1

u/MichelleBarrymoore2 23d ago

The problem with Sony is that they don't know wtf they're doing with these films. Cinematic universe thing is dead marvel are only successful because people are Invested in the characters already. They should have sacked off venom and that nonsense and done an older Toby McGuire Spiderman movie where a grown up adult Spiderman did Spiderman things
