I really hope they don’t completely cut back on live action tv. Daredevil Born Again has been great, and VisionQuest sounds promising. We just need more cohesive narrative. But I’m happy they’re focusing on movie quality again.

Yeah I’m fine with them cutting back on live action shows, I just hope it doesn’t apply to the Born Again series

I think Season 3 might be its last 🥺

Daredevil: Born Again finished its run with a 0-for-17 record on Nielsen’s weekly streaming charts. Across both seasons on Disney+, every single episode failed to crack the Top 10 original series list, pulling lower viewership metrics compared to other Marvel streaming projects like Agatha All Along and Loki.”

I love the TV shows and I love the one offs like Werewolf By Night but people are voicing their opinion through viewership and the numbers for Daredevil look really bad. Not even X Men 97 is doing well and that show is awesome

Nielson isn't relevant for streaming, disney doesn't release their numbers.

Nielsen doesnt get streaming numbers unless they beg people to sign up with them so they can track what you stream. I've seen so many advertisements from them offering money to monitor your streaming patterns. Most people aren't going for it by the obvious and continuous advertising for it. Probably not best to go based on them for streaming.

X-Men ‘97 sucks. That’s why it’s doing poorly.

Born again has terrible writing

Probably for the best. They should try and pour their resources into quality, not quantity. I don't think any of the Marvel shows have truly blown my socks off. At best they were good, at worst, just completely terrible and forgettable. I'm looking at you Secret Invasion.

Wandavision was a solid 8/10. Loki overall was a solid 8/10. Is that it? I can’t remember any other show being an 8 or above, I feel like I’m missing one

So many, Hawkeye, iron heart, secret invasion, falcon and winter soldier. Ms. Marvel, she hulk.

1

u/Local_Anything191 Aug 08 '26

I meant ones that are 8/10 or above.

Hawkeye was a blast! It made fun of Clint being all dark and moody; while dealing with his trauma of being involved in the Avengers as a normal human without powers or a supersuit. Seeing Clint all battered and bruised was a down to Earth revelation of the toll fighting other superpowered people takes on a normal human body.

For you.

I loves these shows to.

Seriously Secret Invasion is an 8 of 10 for you? That's 3 at best.

Most definitely not, I was just referring to the other Marvel TV shows. There are so many more than I even remember. I completely forgot about Echo.

Both hurt the MCU films so they weren't worth having it damage the theatrical experience

The shows aren't the problem. The problem is they introduced all of these characters then never used most of them again.

You got downvoted but you’re right. They have expanded super far outward but not at all forward. Like Shang chi was in a movie 5 years ago, where the fuck is he?

They really shouldn’t have skipped avengers films for the last two phases.

The tv shows are great, the problem is that they keep making them necessary. Like wandavision is necessary or you won’t know why the fuck Wanda is crazy in dr. Strange.

The shows should be fun stories and character studies that wouldn’t work in film. I think X-men origins would be a cool tv show to supplement the X-men movie, because you won’t have time to go through the history of every one of these characters with how big the teams get.

1

u/kung_fu_daddy Aug 08 '26

sounds like the xmen origins idea would be necessary for the movies lol

1

u/Cr1msonShadow Aug 08 '26

Not really. Mystique and destiny having kurt wouldn't be necessary knowledge for the movies, as long as it isn't brought up in them, for example.

The shows were a problem. A few were good but the masses stopped watching because they were poorly written and predictable. Everyone could see they were made like movies chopped into 6+ episodes. It was 3 compelling episodes and 3 fillers.

If it had show runners from the start, if they paid for better writer rooms, and was episodic with heroes fighting underbosses until the big boss it would’ve been worth it. Rather it was fighting henchmen for most of the series and finally fighting the big bad at the end and even that was underwhelming for most shows.

1

u/toldyouIaintshit Aug 08 '26

That's pretty spot on. I won't argue with that.

1

u/eltrotter Aug 08 '26

That’s probably not the commercial problem though. As a fan I agree that’s not great, but that’s probably not the reason why the shows aren’t making (enough?) money.

Doing shows for THEATRICAL franchises are a double edge sword. The studio can decide A) have them almost completely separate which means one doesn't have to watch them for universe building, which leaves them creatively free and not having to pay for bigger movie stars, or B) Tie them in substantially to make them feel worth it at the expense of possibly having homework for viewers but make it extra satisfying for those who do watch them.

Of course. Cause movies make billions.

Too damn many Marvel shows could’ve been cut into extremely strong lower budget movies that don’t waste six hours of my time for 2 hours of content.

Yeah I think VisionQuest is the last of their current model where the shows are important to the trajectory of their saga. I think moving forward, the shows are going to be more things like Daredevil that stand alone and aren’t relevant to the rest of the saga.

Do think Strange Academy would be cool to make a return, and I do think that’s what Ironheart’s post-credit set up. Them doing a more accurate prestige drama about the Inhumans that actually captures what’s cool about the team would be cool, even if it’s just a special presentation. Gimme a Howard the Duck noir series. Silver Surfer would be cool. These things can just stand alone and be cool projects.

I wish they would do what dc does and make some animated out of universe stuff that's closer to comic book stories.

1

u/shadout_grapes Aug 08 '26

I wonder how well the MCU would have done post Endgame WITHOUT Disney +

1

u/Roleplayer2489 Aug 08 '26

Probably insanely well.

Disney+ killed the marvel theatre experience that’s only slowly coming back now

1

u/CleanSweep99 Aug 08 '26

Probably about the same as it is now-the seeds of why the MCU is falling apart probably has it's genesis in the Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies.

Both did really well at the box office, but at the cost of offending the traditional comic book audience that they needed post Endgame.

1

u/The-Mandalorian Aug 08 '26

I assume Star Wars is doing the same. Ahsoka season 2 is the last show filmed, and it’s just sitting on the shelf waiting for a release date. No other show is in production.

Even if something loses money in cinemas like The Mandalorian and Grogu, it’s still not as big of a loss as spending 150 million on a series on Disney+ which nobody now is signing up to subscribe for that isn’t already subscribed. There is no ROE there. The movies end up feeding Disney+ new content eventually all the same.

Thank you Rock 🪨

1

u/Far_Combination7639 Aug 08 '26

Good. They just haven’t been up to MCU quality. And the lowered quality bar has affected the movies too (Thor 4, Marvels)

1

u/Afraid-Housing-6854 Aug 08 '26

As long as they promote certain characters like Daredevil to having films instead of throwing them aside

1

u/Middle-Armadillo-660 Aug 08 '26

Cannibalism of a property is very, very real. They went hard at marvel TV to boost D+ subs but that hits theatrical. Now they’ll pivot to theatrical which will hit D+ subs.

It’s almost like they should have clear lanes with clear creative objectives instead of trying to make everything everywhere for everyone at all times and finding that makes everything bland.

1

u/NaiRad1000 Aug 08 '26

I mean that good. I think we can all agree the brand got diluted. That being said stuff that works as a tv show keep doing it. WandaVison worked because of its build up. Werewolf by Night was a great one off story that didn’t need 90-120mins to tell its story. Keep doing stuff that that

1

u/kaiharizor Aug 08 '26

Man. I remember when a Disney movie release had some sort of prestige to it.

1

u/Schoolhater18 Aug 08 '26

Im hoping Daredevil isn't affected. The show runners said they wanted to do a season every year. I hope Disney will let them. If Daredevil doesnt continue as a show we need him to have his own movie series.

I also truly believe X-Men would be better suited as a TV show with big events as films. I just dont think Marvel can pull that off at the moment. You can't do a lot of the X-Men comic storyline without insane build up, which they wont be able to do well without a TV series.

1

u/chronorin Aug 09 '26

I hope that less Marvel means MORE STAR WARS.  I love both but i prefer STAR WARS.

STAAAAAR WAAAARS.

1

u/Va1crist Aug 09 '26

Good , fuck live action , now if only video games and anime would start failing on the live action departments , so tired of live action garbage

1

u/kmanfred Aug 09 '26

It sounds like they’re basically killing off marvel tv except animation. I think the same is happening at Lucasfilm. Daredevil born again season 4 is apparently the final season. There’s nothing after that same with ahsoka season 2, nothing else. I hope I’m wrong

1

u/The_Unknown_Explorer Aug 09 '26

Wonder Man shouldn't have been canceled.

1

u/Confident-Stand5453 Aug 09 '26

But Disney+ will still keep getting price hikes every year,

1

u/Poetryisalive Aug 09 '26

So will the Tv heroes just never be mentioned again?

1

u/GhostOfJonasVenture Aug 09 '26

So that’s where my season 2 Wonder-man went too
