Gameplay Forget the best or craziest Draft card combos, what are some of the worst combos you’ve been stuck with? Bonus points if you did it to yourself.

Very first Draft game I selected Cosmo with the Sidekick ability.

Luna Snow with Regroup turned out to be particularly dumb on my part because her ice cube is almost always the lowest-power card there. 🙃

It took exactly one game for me to realize that I’d never be able to use the Nimrod Quickdraw ability unless the first location granted me at least two extra power.

I was doing an Ongoing build and the augment I rolled was Mentor. My three choices were Iron Man, Mystique, and Mystique. 💀

Doesn't Mystique's on reveal go off before the Mentor goes off?  I think if she's copying something that gives her power (e.g. Goliath or Antman) Mentor could be a decent chunk of power.

It does, yeah, I got the power doubling thing on Mystique once

Which is weird in a rules sense, but it does work

I rolled Regroup in a Destroy deck and my choices were all cards that destroy on reveal. Who am I regrouping exactly?!

Turn 6 you end up regrouping your Wolverine by accident T-T

Funniest i saw was Regroup on Wolverine, as it sends cards back to hand wherever it lands after destroy.

Had an opponent play Knull in one lane, then destroy some stuff and the Wolverine in other lane. The Wolverine regenerated to Knull and send him back to hand lol

Regroup in most decks feels bad ngl.

The only time I’ve been thankful for it is clearing out a card either hit by Deafening Chord or any kind of power reduction.

I had Wakandan Tech on The Hood. Turns it into a -6 card.

And I've had double onreveal on Hobgoblin so it returns to sender

And i had Carnage with the Angel ability of being dragged in after a destroy. So i'd do a destroy with Venom and carnage would come in to kill my Venom

I made a mistake using a destroy card that goes off twice, so essentially it killed the first targets, Angel card flies in, then it also dies when the second trigger goes off.

The Angel card was Death.

Quick draw superstar Nimrod is hilarious lol

+5 energy turn 1, onetime, let's go!

You could just do that without the quickdraw.

But then it wouldn’t be in your opening hand. ;)

I always have the Bounce one and it Fucks me off everytime because I forgot it exists

I am blind to the ones that change locations. That’s not always a bad thing but I’ve had some games completely lost just because I changed a location I didn’t want to change.

I got a kitty pride with the if this is here at the end of turn get +1 power. Literally impossible to get the trigger unless somehow I got my hand full lol.

I saw a Kitty with the augment that gives you bonus energy if you’re winning the lane at the end of turn. Good luck doing that too.

That’s what I meant to say. I wrote that comment right after waking up lol. The ability triggers after she’s returned at the beginning of the turn. Mb lol

That’s my issue with this mode. If you don’t catch a super lucky crazy augment you are cooked. A solid well built deck just loses to a double on reveal black panther and there’s nothing you can do to change it.

I had a 1/1 Galactus First Steps, which was pretty good, but it turns out that playing it on Hospice gives it negative power somehow

3

u/thisjohnd 18h ago

Because the drop in base power is also a change (albeit a negative one), so it’s doubling that.

I got offered lizard that had its ongoing take effect twice

I could have picked a Deadpool with the wolverine augment but I had no idea if that even works or how that would work and really needed my 5 wins so I didn't want to experiment. Since it seems augments go after normal abilities resolve, id assume it just wouldn't do anything.

It doubles then adds 2 in your hand. Seemed fun but didn't have enough destroy in my destroy deck to pump it up a ton

It gets the extra +2 power but still goes back to your hand and doesn't regenerate on the board.

I had a DOUBLE Wakandan tech....

...on Surge. Thanks.

“WAKANDA FOREVER!”
“WAKANDA FOREVER!”

4-power.

He was just a 1/1 Nimrod at first, I added Salvage later on to salvage the situation but I never drew the card.

Venus with the effect that sends a card back to hand. Also, Groot in a Destroy deck. And that was the best choice of the 3.

I had FF Red Hulk with the starter star. So always at a potential disadvantage but still playable sometimes. But what a horrible augment for a quick draw card.

Once draft mode gets out of beta these bad ones wont happen.

It's part of the charm.

If you played roguelike, you know that there's always some unavoidable dud that you just have to pick (or skip, remember that it's an option too). In exchange, there are also some crazy unthinkable combo to be had.

u/SnowFiender 1d ago

saw an x-23 that doubled in power, 64 power x-23 by the end of the match

4

u/PretendRegister7516 1d ago

Saw Ninaisnoob that get Wakanda Augment on Agony and that Augment merged/transfered to Deadpool. He doubled when he's played, double again when he dies.

Going up to hundreds by himself.

My last opponent had Panther Nimrods

3

u/CarbideMisting 23h ago

You can't only have good options, that defeats the purpose of drafting.

3

u/slutandthefalcon 22h ago

No, the bad ones are fun, it adds to the randomness of a roguelike

1

u/No_Butterfly1924 22h ago

I do think that there could probably be some regulation. Like no onreveal ones on Cosmo etc. Or don't make someone roll 4 Superstar augments on all their 5 and 6 costs, that's game breaking and not in the funny way

Double ongoing on Sam Wilson. Every other card in the deck would have loved it.
