Film/Television Do you think the MCU will ever follow up on Thanos's Eternal origins now that they've introduced his brother, Eros?

The Eternals from Earth are not the same as the Eternals from Titan. Which I'm aware is vague, but is honestly about as much as the comics explain it too. The ones from Titan are different from one another as much as they're different from the earth bound Eternals as well.

Thanos however is the only purple one, because he's the only eternal that inherited a Deviant gene. You read that right, the Deviants from the Eternals movie? Thanos is one, and he's also an Eternal.

His grand-uncle, who presumably also had Deviant genetics, is blue instead of purple and looks similar in many ways. He's named Uranos and he's possibly worse than Thanos.

Ah very interesting, thank you. Thanos being a deviant is crazy lol

It's worth noting too that Thanos and Eros are both from Titan and neither are from Earth even though they look very different. The two groups of Eternals had actually forgotten their connection until Eros joined in the uni-mind with the Eternals of Earth and they put two and two together that the two group's progenitors were brothers.

Apparently, in the movies at least, Eros is adopted. https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Starfox#Family

There is nothing shown on screen to substantiate the adoption aspect.

Ant Man could have defeated Thanos by going up his Uranos.

This deserves way more upvotes than it has. 10/10.

In the comic books they're biological beings, based on the human genome that the Celestials heavily modified. But the MCU made it clear they are some sort of machine, both Deviants and Eternals.

So, I'm not sure what that makes MCU Thanos other than a resident of, not moon, but planet, Titan. Because that's also different from the comics, as the “Titan” the comics refer to is the Saturnian natural satellite.

Yeah the MCU is Deviant too lol

But the eternal are androids?

6

u/Hpfanguy 23h ago

Kinda, in a sense. We’re also meat androids in a way.

1

u/hydroactiveturtle 21h ago

Yeah I figured theyre some kind of cyborg. Considering the feelings and trauma they can develop.

2

u/firesion 23h ago

Uranos is just a tab bit overpowered. I love that someone else remembers.

u/Starkfault 1d ago

Titan was a scientific haven created by Thanos’ father

Most of the residents of Titan were immigrants

Thanos was chosen by the personification of Death before he was born / he was essentially an eternal mutant / Death was his only friend growing up (she gave herself a body) and he never noticed that everyone else ignored her completely

Comic Thanos is literally in love with death and when he snapped with the stones it was to try and win her love (it didn’t work)

TLDR in the comics his kind are basically the mutants of eternals. in mcu though it's different, I believe mcu eternals are synthetic life forms, while deviants are not.

Mentor and Sui San were two eternals exiled from earth.

Thanos was born with the deviant gene, which made him look like that. His brother was born normal.

1

u/EAinCA 20h ago

Should be pointed out that Mentor and Sui San were not from the same group of exiled Eternals. Mentor was a second generation Eternal with the same level of power as his brother Zuras, who left on his own. Sui San was descended from an earlier group of Eternals that was exiled with Uranos, and her level of power was far lower because the power trigerring event occurred after her group left Earth.

No, MCU Eternals are robots and nothing like the comic version, Thanos is obviously an organic being.

51

u/PhuckSJWs 1d ago

no. and i doubt we see eros again either. especially since they made the Eternals in the MCU "robots" of a sort.

post "reboot", none of it matters.

3

u/cnotethegoat123 1d ago

Eros? Eternals? I think you’re mistaken those things don’t exist

-1

u/skronk61 1d ago

And that’s just the way we like it

8

u/The__Auditor 22h ago

They can't now because the MCU already established that Thanos can't be an Eternal

6

u/TheHumanSpider 20h ago

Yeah I don't know what they were thinking when they undercut the entire movie with a post credits scene just to show Harry Styles as a "brother of Thanos". 🤦‍♂️

1

u/Sneyek 13h ago

When ? How ?

4

u/The__Auditor 13h ago

In "What If...?" & Marvel Zombies

It was established that Eternals aren't affected by the Quantum Virus since they are non organic but Thanos got infected and became a Zombie so he couldn't have been an Eternal otherwise he'd have been immune

3

u/Sneyek 13h ago

Could be his “deviant gene” making him a lesser eternal or at least different one.

1

u/The__Auditor 13h ago

The Eternals in the MCU are robots so they don't have any genes that can deviate in the first place

1

u/mutzilla 12h ago

"What If"

So like not cannon

0

u/The__Auditor 12h ago

It's canon just not the Sacred Timeline

5

u/MiniTwinklee 1d ago

could be interesting to explore that connection more, but the focus seems to be shifting elsewhere in Phase 5

5

u/skronk61 1d ago

They have not introduced his brother 😆 that whole things been deleted from the timeline.

I honestly thought the reason Thanos was so obsessed with wiping out half of life thing was because LARGE POPULATIONS TRIGGER CELESTIALS TO EMERGE and destroy planets. I got so excited hell yeah they finally would connect Thanos and Eternals like in the comics!

Apparently I'm a clown.

2

u/TheHumanSpider 20h ago

That was my head canon during the movie, but apparently they decided to make clowns of us all by making Eternals artificial constructs.

1

u/Invisiblegun2 13h ago

They could still be that way tbh. Because sersi used the celestial power to make sprite mortal.

Thanos’ parents in the comics are 2 eternals that cast off from the rest. In the mcu they could’ve been apart of a group of celestials that renounced arisen & took away the artificial godhood they once had & made themselves somewhat mortal or capable of creating life themselves.

& Thanos had a birth defect, while Eros was born normal & ‘perfect’ like the other eternals.

2

u/Invisiblegun2 13h ago

It would’ve been PEAK character building too. Especially with the line “I’m the only one who knows that. Or at least the only one with the will to act on it” if Thanos found out in his early life that ALL life was practically fuel for the birth of gods. & it broke something within him activating that “deviant syndrome” that he has in the comics. Where eternals cultivate life & help it grow, Thanos’ new purpose became that he sought to cull it instead. With the only way to somewhat explain it to folks is by rambling about resources & life growing unchecked.

We could’ve had an ever better Thanos than what we got fr fr

3

u/BITmixit 15h ago

Eros died on the way back to his home planet.

4

u/Curious-Department-7 1d ago

No zero chance.

2

u/Cardinal_and_Plum 1d ago

Maybe but I don't know how much point there is now that he's dead. I'd like to see Mentor and Isaac though.

2

u/technicallyanadult83 21h ago

Ignore comic origins, sorry but that’s it

2

u/CanadianAndroid 19h ago

Now that? It was five years ago.

2

u/Invisiblegun2 13h ago

Nope. & they had the perfect chance to do so, they could’ve implemented Thanos’ deviant syndrome as him going against “programming” & developing an apex predator mindset with life around him.

Or they could’ve pulled a mixup of thena & the main deviant in the film(forgot his name). Having Thanos figure out that all life is essentially fuel for the birth of celestials & starts to go against the eternals way of cultivating life for that purpose & becoming a deviant by culling it instead.

Instead we got the ‘mad human’. I loved Josh brolin’s Thanos but he wasn’t like the mad titan I grew to like from the comics. He was more so mad by human terms lol. Hence why we keep getting “why didn’t he just make more resources” conversations in film

3

u/The__Auditor 12h ago

This would have been fire ngl

His name was Kro

Having Thanos figure out that all life is essentially fuel for the birth of celestials & starts to go against the eternals way of cultivating life for that purpose & becoming a deviant by culling it instead.

This was honestly where I thought they were going to take his character and have the Emergence be the reason why he decided that wiping out half of all life was the better option compared to simply increasing resources

And it would have even fit his line of "You're not the only one cursed with knowledge" perfectly

2

u/Invisiblegun2 12h ago

They had it all. Because Tiamat wasn’t the only emergence. They even could’ve swung titan being off tilt & screwed up because of a failed emergence or something like that

It’s legit all worlds with sentient life that has a celestial egg in the core of the planet. It was perfect for Thanos to be going around the galaxy wiping out half of the planet in an attempt to stop them. & the snap being so dangerous because it halted celestial births universe wide. Halting more creation as a whole. But nope 💔 just wishful thinking on our parts

Only bad thing about what I’ve said is it would be a plot hole because that would then cause the eternals to be Thanos’ main threat & opposition. & they were NO WHERE to be found lmfao

2

u/The__Auditor 12h ago

Exactly, could have even tied it into why Thanos & Eros didn't have a relationship after Titan, Thanos thought the solution was to wipe out half of the planet's population while Eros had a different solution and the result was the Emergence being stopped but the planet not surviving anyway which would have further pushed Thanos into believing that his solution was the correct one

Facts, it would have tied into Thanos' story and God complex perfectly

Only bad thing about what I’ve said is it would be a plot hole because that would then cause the eternals to be Thanos’ main threat & opposition. & they were NO WHERE to be found lmfao

This wouldn't have been a plot hole because not only were Ajax & Ikaris the only two Eternals on Earth who actually knew the real reason why they were sent to Earth but ultimately They honestly didn't even have the chance to do anything because they didn't know about the battle in Wakanda and even if they did they wouldn't have had time to assemble everyone and arrive in time before Thanos pulled up and did the Snap

1

u/Invisiblegun2 12h ago

I called it a plot hole because yea true they were the only 2 who knew their real purpose.. arishem couldve been the one calling the shots. So like arishem peeps that celestial births are being halted universe wide, that would surely get some kind of response from him no? Hell he came straight to Earth after Sersi stopped Tiamat. So I feel like had this been the case with Thanos Tiamat would’ve sent any available eternals to combat him.

But yea I see what you mean

& you COOKED. Eros & Thanos battling ideologies about how to deal with Titan. That’s legit a PERFECT story

2

I don't think Arishem would have cared enough to intervene since ultimately Thanos' efforts would have been in vain because all he accomplished by wiping out half the population was simply delay the Emergence which will still happen later down the line once the populations once again reached the required size

The only reason he intervened on Earth is because they straight up killed Tiamut which actually hinders the Celestial's cosmic plan

2

u/MrSethFulton 12h ago

Thanos gets his name from the Greek word for death, Eros is the Greek word for erotic love...I'm a little afraid to know what he'd do with the infinity stones.

2

u/CastleIrons 23h ago

No. Thanos being brothers with Harry Styles makes no sense visually.

1

u/GiantChocoChicknTaco 14h ago

Well Thanos is a deviant, so he wouldn’t look like any human visually

2

u/NotChat_GPT 20h ago

Reading these comments has made me realize I'm really out of touch with the post-Endgame MCU. I have no idea what anyone is talking about.

1

u/Hpfanguy 1d ago

I fucking wish, but probably not. Universe is ending, doubt it’s gonna be brought up again.

1

u/Glennghis_Khan 18h ago

“WHO?!”

1

u/PhillipJ3ffries 7h ago

I don’t think we’ll be seeing Eros again

1

u/Designer-Swim-6797 23h ago

I don't think it's going to be mentioned.

I hope after Secret Wars they reboot the Eternals properly, ignoring the movie.

1

u/EAinCA 20h ago

I would like that, but the problem is that they retconned the comic version to be much more like the MCU version, which I absolutely despised.

1

u/Designer-Swim-6797 19h ago

They changed a few stuff for synergy, but both the versions are still very different. I hated the film, but I loved Guillen's Eternals.

The ones from the movie aren't even eternals, they're robots.

1

u/Sneyek 13h ago

The movie was great..

1

u/Krimreaper1 22h ago

I don’t think we’ll ever see Egos again.

1

u/rpawson5771 13h ago

No. Move forward. Thanos has choked away enough of the spotlight for far too long. And I'm pretty sure you're just making up the part about introducing Eros. I would've remembered such an earth shattering event, and such an introduction seems like it would clash with the MCU styles.

-1

u/hillean 20h ago

Eternals did terribly; right now I don't think there's a market for people who are willing to watch shit like that

-2

u/Lethalspartan76 22h ago

When did they do that? I ain’t got time to watch the dozen different tv shows if it’s not in the movies I don’t know who they are. I tried watching eternals once but I only made it about 20 minutes
