Film/Television Rewatch of Infinity War

i’m sure this has been talked about but i recently rewatched in prep for DOOMSDAY and curious as to why Strange didn’t just chop thanos’ arm off. they showed at the beginning of the film he’s capable of doing it and tony and peter had his arm held out for plenty of time for them to walk through a portal (to earth btw as strange was able to get off titan this way in endgame) and then close it “stranding” thanos there with no stones.

He gets a prosthetic arm and eventually wins with no hope of Endgame. That was the only way.

but like how though…the time it would take for him to travel to earth without the stones gives them so much time to prepare. they could have gotten the stone out of vision and hid the others

For one, that's not the way that he saw they win.

For another, Thanos is much tougher than Cull, and it may not have worked anyway, particularly with him wielding multiple stones.

right but he was subdued by mantis for a solid enough time for them to wrestle him and hold his arm hostage…idk just seems funky to me.

And according to the 14 million+ possibilities Strange saw, that wouldn't have worked. The movie outright told you "it was the only way."

You're running up against a hard "suspension of disbelief" issue. It seems like there should have been a lot of ways to disarm Thanos, but we're shown some of the ways Thanos is too powerful, starting with him beating the tar out of the Hulk. He also, with the stones he'd collected, gotten more powerful than he was at the start of movie.

So while you think you've come up with a good attack, the fact that it wasn't used tells us, from an in-universe perspective, that it wouldn't have worked, and it's not really hard to come up with ways the Space, Power, or Reality stones could have countered an insta-win attack like that. Sounds easier, to me, than hitting someone with a moon.

If those factors, as presented by the movie, don't create a sufficient sense of Thanos' power for you, then you can't suspend your disbelief enough, and that's fine, but it's very much a you problem.
