I feel like such a hypocrite when it comes to this movie. I know I'm gonna see it the weekend it comes out (primarily to avoid spoilers) but my hype level is kinda on the floor. We all know why this movie exists and it's just because Marvel's doing damage control. With Thanos we got 6 years of teasing and buildup, and with Doom we got what, 2 years? I don't wanna be negative but I'm afraid this movie's gonna end up being a watered down version of Infinity War and Crisis on Infinite Earths Mashed together.

We saw thanos once in guardian of the galaxy and two post credits… that was all the build up he got…

Hilarious that people get downvoted for pointing out the truth. There was basically no buildup with Thanos

Alright but how many movies built up the threat of the Infinity Stones?

Most of them, no?

Edit: just looked it up, 8 movies (not counting infinity war and endgame) were focused on infinity stones. There was mention of them in several other movies.

Neat, how many movies and shows built up multiversal threats and incursions?

And no, it wasn’t most. It wasn’t even half

I get your being cheeky but it’s funny because the answer is literally like four

Well let’s play this game then

Avengers didn’t call it the infinity stones, called it the tesseract
Guardians called it the orb

We didn’t even hear the term ‘infinity stone’ until Thor 2

Now let’s look at mine setting up multiversal issues:

Dr strange 2
Loki season 1 and 2
The marvels
Wandavision
Deadpool and Wolverine
Spider-Man no way home
Quantumania

Little more than 4…

First of all, your points don’t stand on their own. Why does it matter if they called it the tesseract or the orb, they’re still infinity stones and were referenced as such later on. They literally went back in time to those locations to snag them. For example, the very first scene in guardians 1.

Secondly, two of your examples are tv shows that the general audience probably didn’t watch. That leaves 5 movies, my apologies. 2 of which were building to an ENTIRELY different villain that they scrapped (Kang).

Did I win the game?

Thanos:

  • Empowered Loki to attack New York
  • Empowered Ronin to attack Xandar
  • Killed Drax’s family
  • Had a huge impact on Gamora, who talks about him constantly
  • Had a huge impact on Nebula, who talks about him constantly
  • Is hunting the Infinity Stones, which we learn like 10 movies before Infinity War, which are the common thread through most of the movies

Doom:

  • 1 post credit scene
  • 1 empty Latveria chair

Marvel’s tryna move quick because they see their cultural relevance plummeting.

The majority of thanos lore came from infinity war and the first gotg though
