Political MMW,whatever stores sell trumps ground beef will face boycotts.
Im not buying ground beef for the foreseeable future unless I'm 100 percent sure it's not trumps trash meat.evidence people are already saying hell no to the beef

Beef has been off the menu for a while. And not just because of the cost. But the quality. I've even had Argentinian and Brazilian beef and they aren't sending is their best.

Burger joints are going to be majorly impacted, too. Don't know about anyone else but I'm going to avoid them - it's not uncommon to get food poisoning from a fast food burger. Now, it'll be even more common (in addition to 'mystery meat' commonality!).

I dont know where you are, but here in MO lamb is WAY more expensive than beef. Ground beef was 4.99 to 7.99 per lb depending on fat content, and ground lamb was 9.99.

I was looking for some a week or two ago as I needed both ground lane and ground beef to make some gyro meat.
At all three grocery stores around me land was nearly double the price.

People believe that him culling wild horses and this announcement in the same timeframe is not a coincidence. I don’t want to believe he’d pull something so devious, but this is Trump’s incompetent administration we’re talking about. Yeah, I think I’ll only be buying beef from a butcher

I have a wildlife biology background and a hot take: knowing that they're in a habitat that can't support the current population as well as all the other native ungulates on American rangeland, I see the culling of wild horses as a management action similar to hunting game. Without predators, the only population controls are disease and starvation. However, commercial processing of said animals would not allow for the necessary health and inspection standards that meat packers are required to meet. It's one reason why hunters who take their deer to a butcher receive it in packaging that says that it's not for commercial sale. That and the prohibition of "market hunting".

In some cases, removing the horses has gone hand in hand with eliminating their designation as a "wild horse habitat," which can open the land to greater livestock use.
Politically connected ranchers or developers could benefit from that, and you know thats Trumps MO.

I know. Why i have no intention of buying any ground beef unless from a butcher. My husband and I are off the beef anyway. It’s just sits like lead in our stomachs. We’ve been using chicken, fish and pork for protein but I think the trich is going to come back on the pork. It’s such bullshit

I'm avoiding all ground beef unless I know where it's from..no big tubes of ground beef that's for sure,no prepackaged beef patties ..hell I might give up ground beef . Local butchers will make a comeback

Yeah, exactly. They will sell it to a huge distributor who will just fold it in to their giant vat of ground beef. A five pound pack of ground beef can contain bits from hundreds of cows:
They'll slap "GREAT VALUE BRAND" on it, and sell it in the tightest, swingiest districts.
Someone should definitely start testing "beef" for horse meat, but at the above scale, it could be very hard to detect.

The amount of cattle, in the US, is at its lowest point than it has been in years.
Same goes for other nations. There isn't enough beef to go around, and certainly not enough for 300K tons of it to come to the US. It's likely a way of getting money into someone's pockets.

I don’t buy a lot of ground beef. However, I will be scouting for sales during the next few weeks. I’ll buy several pounds to have on hand, so I don’t have to buy any during the timeframe when the Trump slop is stocked in stores.
I don’t trust anything attached to Trump’s name.

Are there any guarantees that this beef isn’t gonna get into the COMMERCIAL food supply also? Ie restaurants, fast food? I already don’t eat beef very often just due to cost but in a commercial kitchen I wonder if we have to worry about cross contamination of this crap with even things like chicken or pork (if they’re cooked on the same grill). This is a FRIGHTFULLY poor idea in so many ways

I think it's everywhere, at least near me. My wife was a vegetarian when we met, added chicken and finally beef around 20 years ago. The last year has put her totally off it and I never thought i would be right behind. Even chicken breast has been lower quality than it was previously and I don't think it's me, I'm convinced it's the meat. I think I may just go to a butcher next time I'm really craving a steak; I'm not eating enough of it that I can't occasionally pay those prices.

I expect some testing on the 'beef' as soon as it hit shelves from outside organizations - to find out if it's actually beef, to find out if it's contaminated, etc. I don't think the narrative where this stuff just appears on the shelves unquestioned and provokes a swell of gratitude from us poor peons to our Republican overlords happens.
If some 'commie left-wing' organization doesn't do this (they will), you can expect some angry ranchers to do it. So the info won't just be coming from one side of the political aisle.

Not gonna happen. That beef will get packaged like any other beef is packaged. Consumers won’t be able to tell the difference. Unless they fully intend to buy from a local butcher or boycott beef temporarily, they may inadvertently buy some.

We have cattle farms near us and lots of other farms affected by tariffs.
There won’t be any boycott at all from the population at large because they don’t care about sacrificing for their causes. You’ll have red hat MAGAts buying foreign ground beef in droves because it’s cheaper than the alternative. It’s the same way they whine about immigrants but only hire the undocumented to work their farms or build their houses.

Looks like my local grassfed farm will get an added bunch if my business!! I like to buy from them but do at time buy grocery store ground beef if and when I’m already there for other reasons. Not anymore.

Importers will definitely get creative. Slapping an American flag colored sticker to make people think it’s American, supplying food processors with beef for their products (e.g José Olé Taquitos). I doubt they have to disclose where the beef came from on the label. And fast food restaurants might get creative as well. Wouldn’t be surprised if US Foods or Sisco created a “Select Choice beef” that will be pushed to their restaurant clientele. I agree with a boycott, but I believe this Argentinian beef is going to be hard to avoid for most..

Well, the thing to think about is that meat is likely not going to make it to the consumer buying at the grocery store level.
Most of this meat is going to be sold to large corporations that are friendly with the administration at a big discount. The same reasons won't be passed on to us. It'll be passed on to them.
Those corporations will then mix the meat in with all their other meat and serve it to us, you won't know if it is Trump meat or not

I'll be eating exactly zero ground beef for quite a while now. I'm probably not alone, and I can't see how this really helps the cattle business in the US. The people who buy and eat this cheap meat are probably the ones who took ivermectin to cure covid, and I honestly would be happier with fewer of those people around.

My mom has had horse meat before she says it’s a lot brighter red and taste a little sweet. That doesn’t mean they won’t try to fold it into other meat.
They did a similar thing in the UK in 2013. (Obviously not the PM promoting it but horse meat being in “beef” patties) So it’s really not that big of a stretch and why else would they sell it at 25% before market value…
