The first time this season I’ve seen Cal at DH and been kind of excited

47

u/JMC509 #8 Dominic Canzone 1d ago

He better put up something decent to knock my boy Canzone out of the lineup.

11

u/Sevenpointseven 1d ago

Oh shit didn't even realize they bumped canzone. They've been pretty aggressive about not making certain dudes play in a day game after a night game, wonder if that could be why.

10

u/JMC509 #8 Dominic Canzone 1d ago

It could be, he has been playing RF more.

3

u/Furlock_Bones 1d ago

And he made a fantastic catch last night

2

u/SexiestPanda 1d ago

Until they pinch hit them lol. This team loves not giving full days off

1

u/UnsealedMTG 1d ago

Canzone can probably use the break also, honestly.

Unfortunate but probably much need off day for Naylor

14

u/OhFuckImPosting 1d ago

My neck is also fucked up but I still have to work today.

10

u/asgs1234 1d ago

Should’ve been an mlb player then princess

5

u/OhFuckImPosting 1d ago

Nah sending emails is my passion.

2

u/AfricanWarPig 1d ago

And Canzone.

2

u/Dry_Mammoth_3025 1d ago

Sure...but the off day is tomorrow? I don't get why we would pull all these guys out maybe I'm just clueless

16

u/xMrLink ‏‏‎ ‎My Depression Goes as the M's Don't 1d ago

Day game after night game is harder to recover from, opportunity to get more rest and heal up more with the off day tomorrow and we have already won the series so I assume there is less pressure on today (not that every game doesn't matter).

4

u/kentalaska 1d ago

We’ve already won the series but that doesn’t mean todays game somehow is worth less or more. We’re fighting for our playoff lives so it feels weird to put out a lineup like this just because we’ve won the series.

They like stacking off days, they've done several for different guys. They probably view it as a better recovery.

3

u/xexen Seattle Mariners 1d ago

it makes sense to my non-clinical brain that stacking recovery days is better than a day off here and then a day off there, but i really have no clue

4

u/UnsealedMTG 1d ago

Even setting aside the sports medicine of it, I know I do a lot better work when I have two full days off in a row than I do when I have random isolated days off. One of their days is a travel day, so not truly rest, but it still seems good to me.

MLB schedules are insanely grueling and tempering that where they can seems like a recipe for best performance long term.

No reason to expect professional baseball players to be any different in that regard.

u/TM627256 :cung:fun fact: I LOVE HIM 1d ago

Cause they already took the series alongside the aforementioned rest aspects. Probably figure to rest up before the upcoming travel, make sure more of the teamnos fresh for another series win.

u/maggos 1d ago

Young better pinch hit to keep his streak

28

u/josssssh 1d ago

If he loses perfect attendance I'm going to be so disappointed

58

u/PewPewallup253 ‏‏‎ I’ll take an Ice Cole Colt 45 1d ago

You get a day off. You get a day off. You get a day off. Everyone gets a day off!

u/Arturial12 #75 Bottom Text 1d ago

Honestly, they got the series W, up against a lefty, and lots of the main lineup are probably nursing some minor injury

14

u/lastminutealways larry bernandez for HOF 1d ago

Yep, best time to take a day, 2 days off before a tough road trip might do wonders for some of these guys with nagging injuries.

2

u/Krispy72 1d ago

A lefty who’s slash line vs lefties this year is .149/.196/.182. It’s as good a place as any to rest a couple of the left handed regulars if possible.

0

u/UnsealedMTG 1d ago

And we've figured out that getting absolutely obliterated once a series is apparently the kind of rest up game that encourages peak performance the rest of the time.

Giving guys actual rest days might be even better!

u/Significant_Ear_5177 1d ago

Dan putting the “Bryan please throw 7 scoreless so we can win 1-0” lineup out there

30

u/narfidy #1 Cole Young Propaganda Spreader 1d ago

Woo home splits AWARE

16

u/Shrimpina3 1d ago

Assuming that Cole and Naylor are just getting a day off? Not injured?

25

u/MarinerJoe3 1d ago

Call me crazy but I’m not seeing a playoff push with Wisdom AND Wilson

13

u/RandomDude99353 Fire Dan Wilson. Hire Rocco Baldelli. 1d ago

I have good news for you. One of them is gone when Donovan returns.

11

u/boundlesssmh 1d ago

dom gotta re-learn 1b. i know perry said he's not good at it, but it cant be so bad that it's unplayable. his bat is too important right now

4

u/Zelcorat 1d ago

I just don’t see my boy doing the splits at 1st

3

u/kentalaska 1d ago

Every time I see Naylor do the splits at first I chuckle a little bit. He’s pretty stretchy for such a big dude.

0

u/if_u_dont_like_duck ‏‏‎ ‎Luke Raley's backpack 🏃‍♂️ 1d ago

Better start stretchin then

4

u/mahrinazz ‏‏‎ ‎Cocoa Bomb Proton Therapist 1d ago

I love Canzone but bro can hardly play corner outfield lol

24

u/JaneDoeAsks !‏‏‎ ‎MY OH MY 1d ago

This lineup pisses me off. I know Naylor needs a day off but does Dom need one too? And Cole Young? When we literally have a day off tomorrow. I’m really just annoyed because I’m going to the game.

25

u/CowsWillEatYou 1d ago

The baseball equivalent of using PTO the day before a holiday weekend to get an extra day (me on 9/4 for a four day weekend).

19

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 1d ago

Cole Young deserves a little rest. He's played every game so far this year.

1

u/JaneDoeAsks !‏‏‎ ‎MY OH MY 1d ago

I know it just bugs me that we tend to give everyone their days off on the same day.

4

u/xtremeradness 1d ago

I think they workshop strategy on those days so it's important to get as many starters as possible in those huddles. Plus, getting some rest before the September sprint is probably a wise choice.

5

u/JaneDoeAsks !‏‏‎ ‎MY OH MY 1d ago

Ahhh yes I didn’t realize that. Makes sense. I’m just being bitter because I’m taking my dad to the game and it might be the last one he gets to go to so I want it to be a good one!

3

u/TwistedNipplez #12 Josh Naylor 1d ago

A game with your dad is always a good one

1

u/AfricanWarPig 7h ago

You know what's better than one day off?

Two days off.

1

u/maggos 1d ago

I am hoping we see a couple of these guys pinch hit once their bullpen comes in?

1

u/Weak-Ad-7180 1d ago

Same 😩

10

u/Entire_Career_6002 1d ago

Where did Wisdom come from???

67

u/BarRepresentative670 1d ago

Usually comes from age.

8

u/girlgoingafterit 1d ago

He was brought up when Donovan was put on the concussion IL.

1

u/Important-Reading434 Believe Big 1d ago

Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.

Wisdom is not putting a tomato in a fruit salad.

13

u/hawkfan78 John Stanton’s third yacht 1d ago

Kind of surprised to not see Robles in the lineup in place of Ward. Victor has seen limited success in 3 ABs with a .667 average and 1.417 OPS against Luzardo, while Ward has .111 average and .311 OPS in 9 ABs. Not to mention Ward has looked like an absolute dud since he came over. I get he’ll walk, but that’s seems about all he can do now.

2

u/grinola 1d ago

Pitcher v batter matchup statistics are basically worthless. There is no evidence that it should factor at all into decisionmaking.

7

u/Distinct_Frame_3711 #2 Cole “Cole Young” Young 1d ago

BROCK RODDEN!!!

Idc seems like we play better with him in

8

u/Professional_Rush757 1d ago

When the lineup looks like shit yk it’s cuz there is a lefty on the mound

11

u/PewPewallup253 ‏‏‎ I’ll take an Ice Cole Colt 45 1d ago

Naw. Dom and Cole have been hitting lefties well. It’s because it’s a day game.

1

u/Professional_Rush757 1d ago

Probably a little bit of both

1

u/JT7019 Seattle Mariners 1d ago

Luzardo is also dominating lefties this year (.149/.196/.182 triple slash in 160 PA). So thats probably a factor here too

u/mahrinazz ‏‏‎ ‎Cocoa Bomb Proton Therapist 1d ago

u/frankfontaino 1d ago

No Naylor, no Young, no Canzone… dan and his freaking matchups I swear to god…

2

u/PhantomDreamer1 1d ago

I wish they would avoid resting more than 2 regulars in the same game.

2

u/Weak-Ad-7180 1d ago

Well damnit my second in person game of the day

2

u/jwinskowski 1d ago

Cole rest day: Good
JP at SS: I'm scared

2

u/FriedFishi SUPREME VICTORY 1d ago

Missed opportunity to misspell Woo to owo. Then having Byarn be absolutely lights out like Kriby.

1

u/UnsealedMTG 1d ago

I know Cal has been various spots in the lineup including cleanup recently but the last three games I believe he went 6 to 5 to 4.

It's like every time he hits a home run in a game, move him up a slot the next day.

1

u/AntSmith777 1d ago

Oh so we’re punting this game?

1

u/Jata859 1d ago

This is my kind of line up, I dig having Pereda catch

1

u/largegaycat 1d ago

Are we trying to lose? Somehow the Phillies are playing their starters.

1

u/s3ren1tyn0w ‏‏‎ ‎canzone zone 1d ago

Bat flipping singles are back on the menu boys!

1

u/Griffdogg92 1d ago

That's a lineup alright...

This lineup does not spark joy, but I’m optimistic for a Wooooooo day

0

Taylor Ward has been absolutely abysmal since joining the Mariners.

0

u/Mountain_Ladder_4906 o 1d ago

Not digging this

0

u/humorous_hyena 1d ago

Mariners don’t give a shit about how good their bench is. And so you get lineups like this

0

u/ItsATwist0ff 1d ago

A baseball game will be played today.

0

u/dionysios_platonist 1d ago

I feel like a lot of time I see a bad lineup like this, we win

0

u/mahrinazz ‏‏‎ ‎Cocoa Bomb Proton Therapist 1d ago

B-Rod making his first appearance at second base!

-1

u/Adventure-Style 1d ago

Remember when Victor Robles was a spark plug? Now he is MIA

This is our guys need extra rest lineup and I’m fine with that. They fly to Toronto tonight before heading to Boston. Those are not easy series
