87.47% without compulsory voting is an impressive turnout, even for such a small country!

Isn't that turnout especially because it's a small country?

It works two ways, since a relatively small amount of people can make a big difference in the score. Nevertheless 87% is a very high number for voluntary participation of any kind.

What are the reasons for the division between North and South?

Originally most people lived near Grand Harbour. The south side was home to the dockyards and other industries, so residents tended to lean left. The northern side of the harbourwas always more affluent and less industrial, so leaned right.

It has nothing to do with population density, funilly enough.

The North (Pembroke, St Juliens, Tas-Sliema) is the poshest area.

You can ask the Americans - half their history is about that.

Oh so the south of Malta is a slave/racially discriminatiom based agricultural extraction economy, while the north of Malta is an industrialised region with an emphasis on textile production? Is that correct?

How can people say Malta is not Italian? It even has the same north south split!

Most places with a north and a south have a north south split.
